Is he injured? Has to be the best of their three CHs.

Not injured according to reports, but if dropped it's no surprise given recent performances. I thought he was poor against us but he was dreadful last week against Arsenal.

That makes more sense given he's not on the bench but I'd seen a report that he had been axed.

The rest of them have also been pretty rubbish, so has anyone else been axed?

I agree with CT, I have watched them a couple of times and he has been very poor.

If he's been poor, then I shudder to think how Ashley Williams has been described this season.

Williams was better with last season's hair style.
He's been gash since he switched to his current one.

The interesting thing I have seen from him is that he is still trying to defend the same way he did at Burnley - but he no longer has Mee/Heaton behind him.
If you watch his movement for Hendrick' goal against them he runs out to cover the shooting angle to the right post - the keeper was in the middle .... Usually Mee would cover the shooting angle to the left post forcing a very good strike to concede. Williams just stood there though and didnt do Mees job which gave Hendrick plenty of the net to shoot into on that side ...... Which he did.

As I said at the time he might never get a better partner than Mee.
Think he should have waited one more year here and played in a back three of Tarka Mee and Keane.
Keanearkamee would have been the purest alchemy.

The plus side of letting him go though is that we have Mee to build up more defenders around him for a few more years yet - if we stuck with 3 at the back then we could have been "worked out" but as it is we have a VERY underated (by people outside our club) CB and vice captain who is a rock.

The defending for our goal at Everton from the two centre backs was poor, but I mentioned a number of times during that game how he looked nothing like the player who had played for us. Everton had, prior to that, been playing with a back three. Keane and Williams were so far apart I got the impression they thought Jagielka must be there somewhere.

I have to say that i doubt we'd be going to 3 at the back any time soon.

Watch his movement as Hendrick lines up the shot - he's in the defensive school of Dyche still (which is very good) but the rest of he defence at Everton hasn't had that schooling so he looks poor.
Could be argued that if he is as good as made out then he should be able to adapt to any defensive structure - the truth though is that whilst being a great player .... Once out of a whole unit set up to defend - he is a little lost.

In fairness he's a young player still learning the game and having to adapt to a new team and a new system. I just thought he looked lost at times against us. He'll come good though, no matter who takes over, because he's a damn good player.

I'm not doubting he's a great player - Just that a lot of fans want instant gratification if they spend over 10 mil on a single player.
Hopefully the negativity doesnt affect him and he is given a chance to still grow. There is a diamond in there - just feel that we could have carried on polishing him for a while longer.

Michael Keane performed very badly last week - a bit like I would have done as a 60+ year old - chasing shadows. I wonder if he knew/suspected that Koeman was getting the sack "in the morning." Is my memory correct that Michael Keane said he chosen to sign for Everton because he wanted to work with/be managed by Koeman?

Keane has looked toss because the rest of the team has been toss and disjointed.
Our framework is actually quite good, despite some Burnley fans wishing we didn't use it, so Keane was better protected and he was used to playing alongside Mee with a more commanding GK behind him.
Everton haven't been playing well, Pickford is still a young lad and Williams just looks naff.
Plus they were using 3 at the back a few times and that's relatively new to Keane.

Unsworth went back to the tried and trusted. However, he forgot that collectively, they are container ship not a speedboat.

How come Gueye/Gana (I wish players would have their name on their shirt and not some personal choice) was playing today. He was sent off last Sunday against Arsenal for two yellows.

Little doubt that Keane would have been better equipped to cope with being exposed on the counter as Everton were today than either Jagielka or Williams. Truth is that Everton's shape and structure was woeful and has been for weeks now.
That game today was really one to refute the flat-earthists who spent the latter part of the summer telling us that pace was overrated. The story of the game was that Leicester's pace scared Everton stiff and gave Leicester the tools to dismantle Everton on the counter attack at will. Of course, it was the pace of Lennon in particular that gave Everton their best route into the game and ought to have given them a penalty to reduce arrears (with the sort of run from out to in that showed what he'd have added to our armoury had we been able to bring him in on deadline day).

I thought it was very naive of Unsworth to go with two out and out wide men against Leicester. He basically tried to play them at their own game on their own patch and Leicester were always going to be better at it because that’s how they play best. And like you say, if he was going to play that way surely he would have had more chance with pace at the back to cope with the counter. In Williams and Jagielka he had the opposite. I think he’s ****** on his chips unfortunately because with him in charge I think they would get dragged into the mire.
