Can I just send a note of appreciation for the guys who played the 'Last Post' last night. They were fabulous and so beautifully played. Well done guys I'm sure it's not easy to play this piece so well.

Was chilling , ruined by a few Geordie pissheads towards the end.

It's a shame a couple of Newcastle fans couldn't quite wait for the refs whistle before shouting out like g(t)oons!

Is it just me or was anyone else expecting a minutes silence after the Last Post?
The Geordies then cheered, the ref gave up and blew the whistle.
I thought that is why the Geordies then received the w***kers chant.
It would have been even more moving if it had been followed by a minutes silence. IMO.

to be fair, the announcement was for a period of silence whilst the last post was played, the whistle wasn't mentioned. it was one of the most poorly organised remembrance events i've seen us have.

odd that we had it in october as well, we play swansea the week after remembrance day, why not have it then?

We don't do a minute's silence on the Turf. Went to Wolves a couple of seasons ago, they had the last post followed by a minute's silence.

Not ashamed to admit I had few tears last night at that.

My grandad passed away few months back and we arranged via SSAFA to have the Last Post played at his service

It was also played by members of the clubs own staff and on one broadcast I saw there was a list of all those associated directly with the club who had fallen

Much more poignant and significant as a result I feel

To be fair, I think Wolves have it closer to what I and the RBL would have been expecting.
The RBL were there carrying their flag and I am surprised therefore that their own system was not more closely followed.
Perhaps clearer expectations could have been given over the pa system?
Here, for what it worth, are the RBL's recommendation, which I accept need adaptation for a football crowd.

The Royal British Legion recommends that the Two Minute Silence is observed in the following order:
At 11am, the Last Post is played
The exhortation is then read (see below)
The Two Minute Silence then begins
The end of the silence is signalled by playing the Reveille
The exhortation:
"They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old,
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun, and in the morning
We will remember them."
Response: "We will remember them."

Hopefully it was beamed across Europe/World so those at FIFA could see how important it is to our collective identity.
