Burnley Mentioned In Script On Tv Or Film

Watched a few episodes of Whatever Happened To The Likely Lads? Last night. In the episode of "No Hiding Place" where the lads are trying to avoid hearing the final score of Bulgaria v England before watching the highlights later that night, there is a scene in the hairdressers where Bob mentions to Terry that one of the hairslylists once had a trial for Burnley.
It got me thinking of how many other times has Burnley randomly cropped up in dialogue on tv shows or films.
When I say Burnley I mean reference to either the club or town.

Whistle Down the Wind:
They'll all come and see Him.
Who?
Oh, everybody. Shepherds, wise men, lords, ladies, bishops and people. The Mayor of Burnley.

I raise you The National Theatre.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hangmen_(play" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;)
'Hangmen', one of the best pieces of theatre I've seen, a wonderful dark comedy.
The play is set primarily in an Oldham pub in 1965. One of the key plot points involve the landlords daughter visiting a friend who is in a Burnley psychiatric hospital.
"...in Burnley?" - One person laughed every time mentioned. Can't remember who...

Slightly off topic but here's a pic of yours truly (I know, not too good, is it ?) at the West Brom game. Everyone who's seen it assumes I'm joining in with something like "No Nay Never". My missus, perceptive as ever reckons, especially as nobody else seems to be singing, that that's my "Ref-er-ee, what the **** are you playing at?" face.
Anyway, the pic, a screenshot taken from a TV station showing the WBA game, was sent to me by an ex teaching colleague...............from Mongolia.

Not strictly film as I don't think it gets mentioned in the screen adaptation with Michael Caine but, Harry Palmer - the main character in The IPCRESS File by Len Deighton - is from Burnley and it's specifically mentioned as such in the first page or so.
Like I said, probably didn't get a mention in the film version as it'd be difficult to square it with Caine's cockney patter but that didn't hold them back in Get Carter I suppose.

No mention of Burnley in this Whistle Down The Wind clip but just thought it worth a mention that Alan Barnes who played young Charles Bostock is still going on the turf.

To be honest I thought Spencer Leigh who played Icky was destined to become more sort after than Morrissey.
I think the full series was re-run only once which was a year or so after first airing
Not seen it on tv since.

Regular mentions in Corrie.
My favourite references to the club itself are often indirect and more subtle, like a few years ago, when doing a scene in a hospital ward, there was a duty board with the names Eyres, Parkinson, Kilby, all written on.

Did you get your PL badges done at the club shop? Just as they look like the proper size rather than the tiny ones I've seen on some replica shirts!

Good spot. The shirt's Jeff Hendrick's match - worn from last years' Poppy Auction, he's one of the few players to wear a Large sized shirt so that narrowed it down a bit for me and luckily it turned out to be relatively - I stress relatively - cheaper.
I wore it on Monday v Newcastle and backed JH to score first. Happy days indeed.
It almost made the traffic and road closures on the M6 worthwhile !

You're right. Jimmy Jewell ( Eli) comes home from work singing "It's very nice to go travelling to Blackburn, Burnley and Colne" to the tune of the Sinatra song where the lyric is " London, Paris and Rome" I remember this as a kid as it was the first time I recall Burnley being mentioned on T.V ( Pity the 'other lot' got a mention as well !)

The first mention according to a friend of mines relative called Gershom who was told this by his Father That once a long time ago a man was given some stones with 613 laws on them of which one set were broken in a fit of temper and had to be re written the original stone was larger than the replacement and the last of the 10 was shortened and should have read thy shall not covet any other team than Burnley but due to transaltion and the cut down statement it ended up thy shall not covet.
He also had some mumbling about some other words written on the first rules to do with some guy with a goatee called ean but due to damage of these stones could have been another letter.
