I suspect, Brexit, that if you are searching the ranks of British politicians of any stripe, for what you may describe as " totty " , then, in the words of Jacob Rees-Mogg, you'll be existing on " pretty thin gruel " !!brexit wrote:Not happy with this. Re: Cabinet Minister Patel resigns
I'm wonderful thanks for asking. Just spent a couple of days with a mate drinking and eating in Aigues-Mortes which is a little paradise.
As for Pretty Patel I think she should have been promoted for working during her own holiday - not forced to resign.
We ought to be seeking more trade deals with the Middle East's only functioning democracy and helping fund their humanitarian efforts in the area. She is right to want to spend UK aid money in less corrupt countries than we currently spunk these millions on - Israel is an ideal candidate.
Patel has the right idea as far as i'm concerned and disappointed to see her go.
Hope she's back in the cabinet under the next PM.

Good riddance to another slice of sleaze serving their own interests as far as I'm concerned.
It won't be long before the people that run this country actually run it and benefit from their labours.

I don't think Ms. Patel is either an Israeli or is accused of any personal gain here. You'd do well to think of some less anodyne insults for the people who spend their time serving you.Ightenclaret wrote:Good riddance to another slice of sleaze serving their own interests as far as I'm concerned.

Re: Cabinet Minister Patel resigns
Have a look at the other Patel thread Rowls...surely there is some stuff on there that you should be commenting on...or does the behaviour which led to her SACKING not concern you at all...?..ie - acting totally unofficially, and initially lying about it and subsequently being economical with the truth.
Is this what our cabinet ministers should be doing?
When you say..'I don't think Ms. Patel is either an Israeli or is accused of any personal gain here..'
Wasn't that part of her 'holiday' devoted to 12-15 unofficial meetings, really about cosying up and winning favour with senior officials and business people in that country including the Prime Minister, and making offers and promises [that we know little about], in return for financial support from wealthy donors who could fund a potential future leadership campaign by Ms Patel..?
That's just corruption isn't it?

Re: Cabinet Minister Patel resigns
Rare backing of (some!) of Rowls post here.
She was talking to the IDF because they run hospitals and refugee camps in the Golan Heights, which is a military area and as we don't recognise Israeli possession of the area, it couldn't be covered under normal FO rules.
Thats the only bit of Rowls post I'll back up though. She can't do what she wants, without going through the proper UK channels, and if she's been thrown under a bus because the UK have decided to talk directly to the IDF*, then that will come out, and May is toast.
*The actual premise makes perfect sense for the refugees in the Golan Heights, but you probably can't do it because of the political sensitivities involved.
Either way, we have an even weaker PM hanging in there when we desperately need a strong one. I don't think Corbyn is anything other than a bad replacement, but at least he might have some fresh ideas to get us out of a mess all of our own creation.

That's the really big point to come out of this. I don't for one minute believe that Johnson and May were totally unaware of this, (hence Boris's gushing tribute to her last night).Lancasterclaret wrote: She can't do what she wants, without going through the proper UK channels, and if she's been thrown under a bus because the UK have decided to talk directly to the IDF*, then that will come out, and May is toast.
.
If - as I suspect - Patel has fallen on her sword in order to protect May, then Patel will use it in her favour at some point. She is an ambitious and ruthless woman.

Re: Cabinet Minister Patel resigns
It's Patel's decision at the end of the day, and we should respect that.
She has her reasons for it, and I'm sure she didn't make that decision lightly.
She should be applauded for sticking by her beleifs, she's been brave IMO.

Re: Cabinet Minister Patel resigns
it wasn't her decision though was it?
She was told to resign or she'd be sacked, and she broke every rule that the FO have about contacting foreign powers.
Apart from that, good post

Is anyone else finding it increasingly difficult to take anything that Rowls says seriously? The guy is so up his own and completely oblivious to reality.
Interestingly, Aigues-Mortes in Portuguese translates as acute death -sums up Priti Patel perfectly. I wish Mrs May and her government would suffer the same fate, unfortunately it looks like it will be slow and lingering death. Probably have to wait until the new year now. It's a shame as it would make a lovely Christmas present.
Has there ever been a British government that is so dysfunctional?

Re: Cabinet Minister Patel resigns
I have a bit of sympathy for May because she has to deal with a hell of a lot, but her unwillingness to bring it all to a head and accept the consequences (effectively either being on the back benches, watching a party rip itself apart, or being in charge, having ripped the party apart) means the whole country looks rudderless.
And add that to the only alternative is Corbyn (who lots have got deep reservations about, inc me) and its not looking good for Team UK.
I'd say it was deeply depressing, but its actually worse than that.

John Major's debacle would give her a run for her money unfortunately what would follow May doesn't look any better than what followed MajorCryssys wrote:

Re: Cabinet Minister Patel resigns
I know where you are coming from, but I don't think there's really any comparison. As a nation we were just drifting on under Major with Europe ripping the Tories apart. Now we are simply rudderless and floundering in tempestuous waters, and the EU issue is ripping the whole country apart.Chobulous wrote:John Major's debacle would give her a run for her money unfortunately what would follow May doesn't look any better than what followed Major
Strong and stable was what we needed if we were to seriously address the Brexit issue. Instead we got this shambles.

She resigned before she was sacked. She polled up at no 10, round the back, had to wait three hours and then receive the inevitable ultimatum.
You can imagine the conversation. A shambles. Trump's useless but at least is a maverick. These morons suffer from institutionalised failure and would stck together no matter what if they could. Cowardly and corrupt.

Re: Cabinet Minister Patel resigns
I’ve got no sympathy for May and her cronies. A walking disaster.
The country voted for Brexit, no point going over the old arguments, we needed strong leadership from her and her cabinet to get things done. I think even Ringo, who probably has a Brexit Birthday cake, would admit they way they have handled it so far has been a shambles.
She’s got no authority within her cabinet, no authority within her party. It’s wont go unnoticed in the EU when it comes to getting the best deal possible.
At no point during her time as PM has she sought to put the best interests of the British people first.

Cheers for that blue
I'm sure that rebel fighters are getting medical help when wounded at refugee camps in Israel, but also that thousands of innocents are as well.
Up to you like, but your attempts to make points are completely destroyed by the fact that you assume everyone only reads the same websites as you do, or are incapable of looking stuff up for themselves.
