The little word that is SO irritating

Anybody else noticing the growing number of people on TV and radio (but not in real life!) prefacing the answer to a question with the word 'so' when it is unnecessary? Most experts when I'm listening to the radio seem to use it, it's rife on The Apprentice, and even two bloody chefs on Masterchef used the 'so' word when it was not needed.

"I turned around" gets on my nerves. Everybody "turned around and said". Everybody should be dizzy. There's far too much turning around.

When people (especially footballers) answer a question when being interviewed with the first word being 'no', for example 'no I agree' .... why they gotta do that???????????

Flannel things out in order to give yourself time to think or reduce the amount of questions they have time for during the whole interview. I went on a couple of media interview training sessions and this sort of thing was one of the main deflecting tools they taught us.

Like musicians where everything has to be 'kinda like you know'.
SO replaced 'Amaaaaaaaaaaaazing' as the most irritating buzz phrase about 18 months ago.

- the disappearance of 'can I have' and the replacement with 'can I get' that stalbansclaret has commented amusingly about more than once.

When football player are interviewed and being asked questions I find it very irritating when they use "urm"
Rooney the worst for it every other word to seek his next word from the bottom of his toy box

“Can I get” Is an horrendous turn of phrase.
I also don’t like it when I’m talking to someone and they start a sentence with “Listen”.
The word “odious” is used far too much on this forum when describing people.

“For me”
As in - “ he has got to close that ball down quicker for me”
Sounds awful

Everyone used grammar in a correct sense until football pundits and managers started the decline in the 60’s and 70’s with phrases like “The boy done good” and “He’s went for the ball”

I must say that I do agree with the OP. It has now reached epidemic proportions and is extremely irritating

I would gladly strap someone to the back of a Range Rover and drive them around the estate for saying like, so and literally every second word.

Opinionated weather forecasters who tell me it’s going to be a “miserable day”
Miserable to who? I quite like a bit of drizzle, so stick to the facts!

I hate it when Burnley loose. I also agree with the OP. It’s another Americanism creeping in.

Add to that "very" used in spades especially by politicians. Few if any are concerned, most are very concerned with a considerable number very very concerned and so on and so forth

So is more than an Americanism, it's a corporate Americanism. It's how you speak when you get your first corporate leadership role. It's usually followed by "does that make sense?" when trying to complete an answer to a question that some awkward minion has deigned to ask you in front of everyone...

"I fink"
"Good to get the free points" (that's a number, not a gift....although could be both I suppose?!)
I don't fink so many thootballers have speech impediments - just laziness, perhaps, or is it considered a bit posh to say 'th'?

Slightly off topic, but I've never quite understood where someone is when they're playing 'in the hole'.
Does the hole move, and if so isn't that a major hazard for the likes of Dele Alli?

Right you Guys, what can I get you guys to drink,?
wwhen in a nice bar or eatery gets on my t1ts. Especially when dining with the Mrs.
I'm not too arsed about the teenage lad behind the bar at the local, but when eating out with the wife, come on, have some manners.
