As per the thread title...

By no means an 'expert' but developed quite a (unhealthy no doubt

) taste for the stuff over recent years. Used to hate it (Bad experience) in my yoof!

Love Talisker Storm. Probably not one for the connoisseur and gets very mixed reviews online but personally love the stuff. Just been treat to a bottle of Talisker Ten Year Single Malt (probably by mistake thinking it was storm) but not going to complain as it gets much better reviews. Not actually tried this version. Also been bought a bottle of Glenmorangie Original. Another that probably surprisingly Ive not tried yet.

Also love Bourbon and some of the Japanese stuff which probably isnt for the purist either

For anyone who likes it and is ever over Glossop way there is a great little pub there that does great food and tons of different whisky!

im a big whiskey drinker. don't let anyone ever tell you how to drink whiskey or what is a good whiskey or not. the reason being is that whiskey is a drink for the individual. that's all you need to know

You can spend crazy money on whisky, but Laphroaig Islay Single Malt isn't out of the way, price wise, and it's lovely too.

I think the price is usually driven by the rarity of the whisky rather than it being any better (or worse) than others.

I don’t like whisky, rum is my tipple, Mount Gay Black Barrel, XO and 1762. Beautiful! The first two aren’t particularly cheap but the last one is around £17.50 for 70cl so not too bad.

Depends on the day/time of day/which side I got out of bed etc.
My taste is more towards the peaty/ iodine/spicy flavours rather than sweet/honeyed/fruity stuff but I dont really have a favourite.
Ive got a taste for US rye whiskies lately and also got into Irish pot still whiskey.

For the past 3 years Ive been to the Whisky Show at Old Billingsgate early in October. For £99 you can stay all day and sample as many of the hundreds of whiskies as you can drink (without getting blotto). It sounds a lot of money but you get fed & they have whisky from all over the UK + US, Japan, Taiwan, India, various parts of Europe costing up to £300-£400 per bottle. You also get a "dream dram"- a sample from a really expensive/rare whisky. The weirdest dram I had this year was some strange substance made in Ealing by some Poles, won't be buying any of that.

Yes I love spicy or smokier flavours.

That Whisky Show sounds great - gutted Ive missed that.

I like a Glenmorangie myself or something similar,single malt of course.Those blended ones like Bells make you want to heave like a good'en.

Too many to mention, but tend to prefer Irish.
Like Bushmills and Paddy Power but if I’m treating myself then I go for Redbreast. Heavenly!

Highland Park......yum......the most northerly distillery in Scotland (Orkney)........very peaty

Also like Bushmills Irish Whisky........older the bottle the better.

Generally I would go for something peaty in a px or oroloso cask but I'll try anything. I do like a Bruichladdich but since they got bought out by remy martin, the prices are ridiculous. Want something interesing to try?

Jura 16 (possibly one of the best you'll get in a supermarket)
Tullamore Dew 15 (interesting Irish whiskey, finished in a rum cask)

How could I forget Highland Park. Absolutely amazing stuff! Spent a full night in The Cavern after Everton away on that stuff!

Oh this is just my thread.

First of all, I'm by no means an expert. I like what I like and that's the extent of it.

In terms of your main brands found in the supermarkets, I really like Jim Beam.

First time I tried a seriously peaty whisky was The Peat Monster. I didn't like it. However, I stuck with it and grew to love it.

I'm also partial to Glen Garioch.

For some reason, I have a very high tolerance when it comes to whisky and I can drink it like water (I don't obviously). I drink it neat because I feel that adding ice is just diluting it which spoils it for me. Each to their own though, of course.

Laphroaig 10yo is a full-bodied, smoky gem, with a residual sweetness and a hint of salt amid the seaweedy, peaty characters before a long warming finish. A classic dram.

Amazon sells this for £25 and the Select version the same price and free next day delivery for Prime customers.

Tesco £35.50 !!

Of the ones oft found in supermarkets- yes Highland Park is definitely a favourite along with Talisker Storm.
A lot of Highland Park fans on here then by the looks of it; it's been rebranded lately as well- using the viking theme. Still the same liquid though thankfully.

I prefer Irish to Scotch.
Jamesons is best, but someone in the pub said try a Glenmorangie. I was surprised how smooth it was for a Scotch, love it.
Once necked an earthenware flagon of Tullamore Dew, ribbon sealed the works, that I found at my mother's after she had died. It must have been knocking around for 25 years. Absolute nectar.
I nearly had a heart attack when a shop told me how much it would cost to replace.

Longrow is my personal favourite. A Campbeltown single malt which ceased being released in the early 90s but which is now thankfully revived. I had a bottle of 1974 which I kept for years and forgot about it. Started drinking it and thought I would see what sort of prices it was fetching: £3k!!!

Yeah Makers Mark is about 25 - 30 quid a bottle. It's a treat, but worth it.

Always liked Whisky, then tried Irish Whiskey's when I got a bit older (Paddy, Bushmills, Tullamore Dew, etc). Tried Makers Mark about 2 years ago, bit sceptical, thinking it would be like a Jack Daniels type drink, couldn't have been more wrong. Try it, it's got such a complex flavour, almost like a cross between a fine malt and cognac (love cognac as well by the way!!).

Got a growing collection that ive never touched. Keep saving them (along with other stuff) for an occasion... cupboards bursting now though so need to tackle some of it.

Below are the three newest ones to the collection. And the front one the oldest. The balvennie was a little treat at least 10 years ago.

Same as most above. Just 'like what i like'. Just opened the talisker. Tastes similar to storm.

My Whisky Ordeal Of 1982

Whilst on my way home on leave I had the 'pleasure' to be in the company of 3 or 4 Scots Guards on the train from Luton to St Pancras.
They were sharing a bottle of whisky and I was kindly passed the bottle and had a few nips.Then a few more nips.I was getting quite a taste for it.
Passed to me another time one of the lads said "there yers go have the rest"(about half full)
Not wanting to come across as a 'wet pussy' I took a few more nips..then a few more..then a few more...after a while it started going down like water.
By the time we arrived at St Pancras It was empty.we all shared a cab round to Euston.
They paid for the cab and said their cheerios and shot off for their Edinburgh train.
I walked through the main doors,looked up at the timetable for the next Glasgow train...the next thing I remember is waking up outside and hueying non-stop.
With a head like a whirlpool,quadruple vision and terrible wobbly leg syndrome I just couldn't help myself up never mind get to the right platform.
Goodness knows how long I had been sat there when a smart suited gent asked me if I was alright.
Well as proud as I was I wasn't in any position to say yes.He helped me up,carried my kit bag and case while also keeping a tight grip around my waist.
I said my thanks to the guy for his much needed help and was put on the train by a guard along with my luggage.

The next I remember was waking up just minutes from Piccadily Station..phew!
Still the worse for wear I jumped in a cab instead of the usual 5 minute stroll round to Piccy Bus Station where I was just in time for the last bus to Burnley/Earby.
I lay myself out on the back seat...The Bus Driver woke me up and informed me "This is where you get off"
I looked up...FFS Earby..."oh mate,I asked you to give me a shout at Burnley"
He forgot but he was going back to the Ribble Depot in Burnley so he just said keep your head down I'll drop you off at the Culvert.

You can stick your whisky up your a**e

Not tried the talisker.

Have tried the glenmorangie 10 year old, and it’s a rare treat. Mellow, mildly fruity with a decently bitter aftertaste. It’s my favourite. Much prefer the speyside malts to anything else. Islay malts, and laphroiag in particular, I can’t abide. Tried it a couple of times, and even adding lemonade couldn’t help it. (I know, but I HAD to add something to it, it was shocking)

Highland park is worth trying. Don’t be put off by the name, or by who sells it. It’s really quite nice.

Funny thing taste.

Yeah, you have to treat it with the respect that it deserves. I haven't had a whisky hangover since I was in my late teens. It's not something I go near if I'm out having a few drinks.

Cheers for the Aldi tips. I'll buy a bottle of their Islay single malt the next time I'm near one of their supermarkets.

Strangely I'm the same. I found this out whilst ill and on the boys Xmas do. To cold for beer so went with whisky and ended the night sober. As I could never live with the lads on beer I made it my regular tipple on trips.

On the Jameson tour they end by letting you sample American, single distilled, Scotch, double distilled and Irish, triple distilled. They do it for a reason the Irish hands down for me. So much smoother.

Lagavulin 16 year old malt £49 at Tesco...I love my Malt Whisky,another I would recommend as I was at their distillery in the summer is Glenkinchie.

So many great whiskys out there. Unfortunately a bottle rarely lasts more than two or three days in our house as my wife has developed a taste too so I usually just stick to Jonny Walker red label to keep costs down.

When we fancy a treat we might get a bottle of Oban (£50ish) or a bottle of Japanese 12y Hibiki (£35 for a half litre) both are a real treat.

I used to try to buy a different bottle everytime so have tried most of the ones mentioned above. I like most things but not bourbons, just can't warm to the stuff.

Also for me whisky has to be drank neet, no water or ice and at room temperature for full flavour.
