Does anyone sing god save the queen these days?

I don’t believe in god and the queen comes across as a bit of a lizard. Am I anti British or just objective? Is it worth caring about? Is the queen human? Is god real.

No I don't.

I don't remember the last time I was in a position where I needed too and it isn't a catchy enough tune that I'd sing it whilst in the shower.

It's a tricky one. I am patriotic but don't believe in the words so can't bring myself to sing them.

The tune is a dirge as well, to be honest.

Not possible! If you don’t sing it you are anti British and a corbyn lover

Dreary dirge of a song about an imaginary friends benefits for an anachronism.

I get all that, but it's a f***ing awful tune.

It only seems appropriate to me if we've got a Gold medal at the Olympics or if it's the Rugby lads singing it before they do battle.

I got myself and my party barred from a pub in Redhill in Surrey a couple of years ago for giving a vociferous and quite drunken rendition of the Sex Pistols' 'God Save the Queen' on the Karaoke. I don't know if the fact that I was wearing a friend's pink Birkenstock shoes(on account of a the fact that I'd left my shoes on the train back from Brighton) had an aggravating effect on proceedings.

What's wrong with not wishing to sing, but still being proud. Is that an option? :-D

For me, singing the British national anthem is telling other people you're proud - I don't care about whether other people care about whether I'm proud.

I sang it just before 15.00 at Twickenham today. I'm not much of a royalist and would rather sing an English rather than British anthem when supporting England but the Argies sang their anthem first and no way I was going to keep my mouth shut when it was time for ours.
I could do without the sopranos during the anthems though.

Did you have to raise this on Remembrance day? People died for King or Queen and country, and many of those were probably praying to live in their last moments.

I have no problem in you saying what you have said....thats why most of our soldiers died, so you can have free speech, but your timing is poor.

This is the version I sing......

God save the queen
The fascist regime
They made you a moron
A potential H bomb
God save the queen
She's not a human being
and There's no future
And England's dreaming
Don't be told what you want
Don't be told what you need
There's no future
No future
No future for you
God save the queen
We mean it man
We love our queen
God saves
God save the queen
'Cause tourists are money
And our figurehead
Is not what she seems
Oh God save history
God save your mad parade
Oh Lord God have mercy
All crimes are paid
Oh when there's no future
How can there be sin
We're the flowers
In the dustbin
We're the poison
In your human machine

I sang it today at the memorial in Rishton at the remembrance service. But agree not a catchy tune

Random fact. Liechtenstein share the same national anthem. But the words are different. So they don't actually sing in their language, "God save the Queen". Ask a lot of people and they'll say they copied us, but it's not the case at all. The tune dates back to at least the 18th century.

That sort of sums the thing up. You want to sing it cos you're English. For the rest of us it's an English supremacist dirge. We've heard it often enough with the words ever so cleverly changed to 'long to reign over you' to think of it as anything else.
But I'd rather put up with that than the f###ing chariot song. '

Usually, the people who object to it are the same mongs who make a massive song and dance about not wearing a poppy for some stupid reason or other.
There will be a few on here no doubt and I already know their user names

Totally different.

One is about singing about a potential make belief character to protect an unelected official that lives a class above the vast majority of people in the UK......

The other being a remembrance of honest, hard working blokes that sacrificed their lives to liberate Europe.

Mong

- yes I understand the wealth that the Royal Family bring to the UK and support them in that regard; do I think they should be the subject of our national anthem? GOD NO!

Hence why I said "usually"
If you took offence I'm guessing my comment was fairly accurate
