Should we have had a penalty?

Barnes looked like he got barged over in the first half after was put through by Tarkowski. Seemed a close call to me and SD was having a go at the 4th official about it.
Any thoughts?

Blatant foul but thought it was just outside the box.

Definitely a penalty. Well inside the box. Barnes was blatantly pushed over. Not a barge.

So we should have had a free-kick in a dangerous area allowing Robbie to step up and whip the ball into the.......
......wall

No foul, inside the box though so should have been a drop ball.

Old centre circle Atkinson guessed his way through, although the linesman should have been more help to see the blatant foul.

It was inside the box. It has to be shown on MOTD and you will see. Well inside the box. A good couple of yards.

I thought it was well outside the box.
That said,I thought his goal was a 40 yard screamer.

I had a great view.
He took the ball down on his chest with defender behind him. He was definitely shoved and it was definitely in the box. I was bloody livid.
I thought Atkinson was poor throughout.

I had a good view as it was right in front of us in the JHU, but I would have given it on the edge of the box and not a pen. But still a clear foul, even against Ashley Barnes!

So...........it was a foul but not a foul just inside the outside of the inside of the box?

Dark Cloud speak with forked tongue. It was definitely a foul and definitely inside the box.

Fair enough. I have only seen it the once and that was "live" at the game. My first reaction was it was outside the box and the guy sitting next to me thought the same tbh, but I may be wrong. At least I wasn't as wrong as Atkinson (and the liner) who didn't even see the bloody foul!!

I haven't seen the incident in question but it was definitely a penalty.

Barnes falls over that much he doesn't get anything now. The refs know what he is about.

Barnes' back initiated contact with the defender's hand. The correct decision would have been to send off Barnes for violent conduct.

I've only seen it via Braille, drop ball.

We should appeal the decision and if successful we can start the Arsenal game with a drop ball at the edge of their box.

I sit in the JHU, in line with the ‘D’ at the cricket field end so had a good view. It looked a foul, but outside the box. His momentum whilst falling carried him into the box I think.

Exactly! It was a foul and it was inside the box but what is all this 'drop ball' stuff? If it was in the area and it wasn't a foul why would play have to be stopped for a drop ball? Nobody went down injured. Open play resumed with a few protests being waved away, so why all this talk of a 'drop ball'?

I havent. Seen it. Going to agree with referee as everyone on here has such major differences on opinion. That said most seem to agree outside.
Roll on motd hopefully shown

I must sit pretty close to you Veals and that's how I saw it too. (And others sat alongside me)

Miles outside the box. Won’t be shown on MOTD because it was well outside the box, if it was inside it will be shown so let’s see. I was sat in cricket field stand, half way up, direct line of site.

I can see the reasoning of that, but it doesn't follow. I've been amazed at some of the incidents in games I've attended, that somehow end up on the cutting room floor.

It was shown from all angles on the TVs at the club, as I was leaving. There is one angle - the referees view - when it showed Barnes, having chested the ball and driving forward, was knocked over by a literally straight arm from the defender. As clear a penalty as Mr Atkinson would see but not give to Burnley.

Also Tarkowski's 'goal' was similarly shown and he was onside when he hit the bar and inside when he scored. Two others in offside positions played no part. Goal! Robbed!

Definitely a foul and when I saw it I thought it definitely a penalty. Then saw it on the monitor under the CFS from a different angle and there was no doubt about it at all, a definite hand out push and therefore a penalty. Officials were poor throughout the match, fortunately it didn't matter and poor old Atkinson couldn't do anything to disallow Ashley's goal ( he must have been really annoyed as he managed to avoid deciding anything for Ashley all afternoon). Noticed too that Ollson was trying to bend his ear all afternoon ...the cheat.

Not shown on MOTD. Doesn't mean it wasn't a pen. Still think we should have been given it but thankfully not ad critical since we won well.

MOTD highlights were a token effort tonight - didn't even bother with our best chance aside from the goals, which was Barnes's header at the back post not long before we did score.
However, the Sky highlights show the "penalty" incident, and imo it is a clear push but the actual contact was a yard or so outside the box. Think Barnes carries his reputation with him with some refs.
Wonder if Everton's Niasse will get a suspension for his blatant dive today? Somehow I doubt it.

No, for the same reason as Silva didn't get a ban for his dive against us. Because the anti-diving committee is so deperately anxious not to have to suspend any top player that they will declare that the brush of a finger is a foul according to the law and therefore the "diver" is legitimately drawing the ref's attention to the blatant but invisible foul.

the Imagine below is when the arm of the defender hits Barnes. It’s difficult to tell from the tv view, which is the same as the JHS but it was clear in the CFS
Never a pen

Come on UTB, I think we all felt Niasse wouldn't be charged for the same reason Silva wasn't - because there was contact. Silva's dive was way worse. Just shows the inconsistency of the new rule.

Niasse ran into the defender's shoulder and went down softly.
Silva had his ankle twisted beneath him by a 6'5" bloke sliding at him.
