road running down the top side of St Augustin's school.
Oops, beat me to it Dazzler.

We bought a 2nd hand 10 year old Indesit washing machine for £10 in 1987.
It lasted another 10 years then we bought a brand new One which only lasted 7 years.
Every new one since has lasted no more than 8 years.

They also owned Thomas Ashworth (Diecasters) who made the 'Speedy' moisture tester,
and Carters (Fire Alarm equipment) where I worked for many years.

Bellings were on Heasandford Industrial Estate on the site that became Aircelle. I got my first job aged 17 in 1971 at Bellings as a lab assistant in the plating shop. No health and safety in those days, Barrels of sodium cyanide left out on the shop floor right next door to the nickel plating baths. Things are much better nowadays.

Were they not companies with bases in Burnley, like Lucas and Michelin?

I think there was 4 or 5 Lucas factories in the area making car components and Michelin was located somewhere off Eastern Avenue. My Dad worked as a maintenance joiner for both companies and my Mum worked at Lucas.
In the 1960's & 70's there was a range of Industries in Burnley and the surrounding area. I'm sure some of the younger fans would be staggered at the diversity of employment opportunities that were available.

In the early 1960's I seem to remember that Burnley produced more per capita of population than any other town and that was due to most workers making things rather than being what my Dad called "pen pushers"
As others have stated in the area we had Mullards (Simonstone) Bellings, Lucas, Michelin,Prestige Burco and many smaller concerns as well as the remnants of the Cotton industry and of course Bank Hall pit was still open (I think)

I recognise that name, but I can't bring him to mind.
I was sales manager at Carters from Ashworth's buying them in the mid 60's until about 1974.

I have it in my mind that some parts of Burco were bought by an Irish firm and became part of Glen Dimplex -- the leccy fires bit maybe?

I worked at Bellings for 2 years, then Staflex in Rosegrove, then 30 years at Main Gas.
I have 4 brothers, 1 worked at Michelin, 1 at Lucas and 1 at the place on Gannow Lane next to the Gannow Wharfe pub (can't remember the name). The 4th was in the Army. They nearly all ended up at Main Gas in the end.

Belling are part of the Glen Dimplex group now based in Whiston near Prescot. They still have the Baby Belling mini oven but they are now made in the far East sadly. Dimpex now have a distribution centre based on the industrial estate off the M65.

Tweedy"s introduced to the World the first Hi - Speed mixer which revoluntionised bread production ! My old classmate John TURKINGTON got his start there , travelled the World installing and maintaining the units . Must have been lucrative as he became a Burnley FC director plus owner of Turkington Engineering. Had a conversation last month with a production bakery in Launceston, Tasmania, in respect to Tweedy units which are still used in their production facility.

That's correct, but they immediately placed them under the control of morphy Richard, who are one of many Glen Dimplex owned companies and brands.

Ah, brings back old memories, severed my time at Bellings in the early sixtys in the maintenance dept, then moved on to Tweedys both good places to work for, crossed the pond to the land of the Maple Leafs in 1971, been here ever since, started to follow the boys during the Jimmy Mc,
Jimmy Adamson era, as they say once a claret always a claret, coming over for the Arsenal and Bournemouth games, another six points in the bag
