At that wage it's slave labour whatever your colour. Must admit though that the rules are very grey on appointing disabled and ethnic minorities. Positive discrimination is wrong if it is expected that society should embrace everyone as equals.

I think you know Sidney but it's the double standards that annoys me. A corporation advertising for white people only would be shouted down as racist and rightly so yet this isnt. If we really wanted an equal society then the conscious effort to employ ethnic minorities for that reason alone must stop and the best people for the job should be employed whatever the colour. It's obvious that this does not happen.

They get away with it here by advertising it as an "Internship" rather than a job.

Despite the role officially being an "internship" it has a job title and also a salary - just like regular jobs do.

Its highly likely people who aren't white have been overlooked for not being white.

I'd prefer it if they didn't feel the need to put that restrictions in place in the advert, but they have and fair enough if it works.

I'm in a job where racism doesn't exist in my workplace, having stood and fought beside every colour/creed/and sexual variant you could think of I would like to think its the same everywhere these days. However and take this as you like people say things with no racial/discriminating meaning at all which may offend others in some way or another. The days of banter have gone, the days of chatting up a girl in a nightclub have gone. We are now a in a culture that you have to be very careful of what you say or do for fear of consequence. It will go wrong at some point. I have had several beers tonight, sorry if me having a beer in my house offends anyone before anyone gets offended.

I think traditionally jobs went to white males even when women and ethnic minority candidates were far more qualified. There was a time when women had to give up work when they married even when they had a better job and were far more qualified than their husbands.

It may well have gone too far the other way but there is still a pay gap between genders and ethnicity - so there might be positive discrimination in job opportunities but there is still traditional discrimination when it comes to salaries.

Genetically, as a white European, I'll be closer to a descendent of a West African than they themselves will be to an East African. It's a fascinating subject is genetics as opposed to the stupidity around 'race' and little understood. Picking candidates from a colour chart in 2017 is mental, whatever your intentions.

I'm assuming the latter. Equality (something I believe in with a passion) should be for all, including whites. We are, believe it or not, a mainly white nation so it stands to reason that most jobs are held by white people, if they weren't then that would show an obvious bias towards non-whites, which would of course be wrong. People should be employed on merit, whatever their colour, gender, religion (which shouldn't even be a consideration) or physical ability. But this holds true both ways, positive discrimination is still discrimination and as such is a misnomer as there can never be anything positive about discrimination. My wife works for LCC and in her job they frequently advertise for very specific people because of the nature of the job but in this case I can't see how the colour of skin can make a blind bit of difference to their ability to be a journo.
Incidentally I have worked in employment law and there is actually nothing illegal about this job ad, but as someone rightly pointed out you can't advertise for a 'white male', however you CAN advertise female only jobs. It's all a bit skewed really but until PC goes out of fashion it will not change.

EDIT - Its from "Creative Access", who are a partner of the BBC whose vision is "working towards a day when Britain society is truly reflected in our creative and media industries"- which explains the criteria, but its still wrong, though I agree with the sentiment.

You can't have positive discrimination and not expect some sort of backlash unfortunately.
