The earliest evidence for the term 'Black Friday' is from 1610. It had little to do with sales, shopping, or Thanksgiving.
In fact, The first Black Friday did not refer to a specific Friday at all but was used in schools to refer to any Friday on which an exam fell.

Not really heard much about it today to be honest. I guess that is what happens when you work from home, listen to your own playlists, don't read the newspaper and watch Netflix instead of "regular" TV though

Happy Days

It's just made up rubbish to get people to buy stuff they either don't need or want.

made up American rubbish - imported 5 years ago by Walmart and Amazon - the first couple of years sensible retailers sough to avoid saying it wasn't our tradition now everyone is in on it faking the discount deals to boost the Christmas spend - madness and I avoid on principle

It's not just Black Friday now, most retailers spin it out for a week or more.
Ringo will be along shortly claiming that increased retail sales today are a positive impact of Brexit!

Do you get like this about the Boxing Day sales?
Got to say, I can’t see myself getting upset over a few shops having a sale.
