Panama joes/ mean cat daddy's
All this talk about clubs, I worked at mean cats and panama joes for a year from 96-97, it was Mick cook as the boss but peck seemed to run it, good times all round. Anyone on here work there or frequent the place??

You don't mean Mick Cookson rather than Cook...?

We used to call it Purple pinstripes, which summed up the clientele.

Could Peck have been the worlds tinyest door man?
Reminds me of an Elton song
Throw you out that tiny bouncer.

You can put Peck on the prick list. And that big oaf Carl who used to fill the doorway.
Re: Panama joes/ mean cat daddy's
Is this big oaf Carl feller the same bloke who also worked the doors at City Limits?

Only as a 16 year old circa 2001 on a Thursday for 10p a PINT! At16 you didn’t care what it tasted like
Stayed in the back downstairs room and avoided eye contact with bouncers. Anyone who drank in town around that time will remember Peck £5/£10 era that we’re dotted around the bars/pubs

I too worked there. It was all multiple screaming orgasms for the girls and bottles of Bud for the lads. Pain in the arse having to learn all the cocktails and spin bottles to make it look entertaining. Thoroughly enjoyed it though. Were you working on the night that all the lads from Padiham arrived outside and put nearly every window through?Shipandpilotdevon wrote:All this talk about clubs, I worked at mean cats and panama joes for a year from 96-97, it was Mick cook as the boss but peck seemed to run it, good times all round. It took a lot of work to get me to wear shoes and 'trousers not jeans' down Burnley. Could be one of the biggest mistakes I ever made.

Remember when The Works opened, after a short period of bravo from the local doormen at Panama’s/mean cats, the Manchester based crew of bouncer went down Hammerton st and put them in their place. No Ney Never wrote:I too worked there. Found 3 ten pound notes at the bottom of the entrance stairs in Panamas and another 2 as I entered through the door, thought Christmas had come, got giddy for a minute, did the old 'sneaky pick up a load of dropped tenners I've just spied on the floor' technique and then was let down big time by noticing some dude called Peck had replaced the queen.

Heard all the stories from the Padiham lads about that night. No Ney Never wrote:I too worked there. It was all multiple screaming orgasms for the girls and bottles of Bud for the lads. I think it started off as a one on one with a bouncer from an old feud until they brought every weapon available out from under the desk. Golf clubs, bats, Cosh's and just about everything short of an AK47.
Turned into a 30 man royal rumble until the bouncers retreated back inside and locked the doors which should of ended it, unfortunately they dragged one Padiham lad in with them. With plenty of beer inside you it's always a good idea to jump through windows feet first to rescue them.
I was in a couple of weeks later when Peck had heard of a couple of the lads in the fracus in the club that night and he had his bouncer crew searching the venue for them.

Is Carl the one who had a look of a stockier, uglier Paul Robinson?RocketLawnChair wrote:You can put Peck on the prick list. And that big oaf Carl who used to fill the doorway.
