Not for me, I like a lot of the football they play.
You can't blame them for taking advantage of Mason, a poor referee and a very weak individual.

Not a fan of the ticky-tacky stuff myself. I still like the old-fashioned British approach. Don Rogers, anyone?

Don Rogers slogging through the Wembley mud to win the League Cup against the hated Aresenal for Swindon Town. Absolutely great stuff. And Peter Noble was on that team.

Here’s the thing - I mentioned I snogged Don’s daughter at a school disco - I didn’t say that I married the step daughter of the other goal scorer that day, Roger Smart... she’s now the ex wife though but still the mother of my kids.ontario claret wrote:Don Rogers slogging through the Wembley mud to win the League Cup against the hated Aresenal for Swindon Town. Re: Are Arsenal Now Our Most Hated Team?
From The Guardian (2001)
In 1919, the First Division was extended from 20 to 22 clubs. During previous expansions, the relegated clubs from the previous season were re-elected, while the top Second Division sides were promoted as usual.
So Derby and Preston, the two top Second Division sides in 1915 - there had been a break for the War - did indeed move on up. And Chelsea, who had finished 19th that season, were, as expected, re-elected.
But the reason for Chelsea's escape were somewhat arbitrary. In 1915, Manchester United had, to avoid relegation, fixed their last game (against Liverpool of all people). They won 2-0 and sent Chelsea into the relegation places instead, but Liverpool chairman John McKenna must have felt some guilt, because at the League's AGM in 1919 he gave a speech insisting on the continued presence in the top flight of the Stamford Bridge club.
For some reason however, he also suggested that lowly Arsenal, who had finished fifth in the Second, should be rewarded for their long service to the League. They should replace the team which came 20th in 1915, he argued.
And so it came to pass. The unfairly relegated club? Why, Tottenham Hotspur.
They've been there ever since.

Bribing officials since 1919.

Re: Are Arsenal Now Our Most Hated Team?
I know we all left the Turf fuming again after another ridiculously annoying game against wenger's pirouetting con men, but hate Arsenal ? I can't be bothered, half of 'em are middle class nigel and Jeremy types, sauntering around maida vale, whose only problem in life is the local deli's run out of sun dried tomatoes, whilst the other half are Asian/ Scandinavian/ American tourists who wouldn't know Highbury from Hi-de-hi.
I almost feel sorry for the real Arsenal fans (I said almost). It must be weird going to the match at the Emirates to watch another boring victory with polite clapping. You can stick your success up your arse(nal); give me the Turf and a rocking CFS any day of the week.

Bastards.
Leeds.
Arsenal.
The arse haven’t actually replaced anyone. I only hated bastards and Leeds. Could tolerate everyone else. Arsenal, like the other two, can now shag off.

Re: Are Arsenal Now Our Most Hated Team?
Hatred is such a strong emotion, no other team than the Clarets should be stirring up that kind of emotion.
Personally I feel sorry for them. They are a deluded bunch of Southerners, with no understanding of football or sportsmanship. They've lived in a virtual reality world for 20 years where they believe they are fighting to win the premier league. Have pity on them.

No pity in my book colburn, cant stand the cheats, only B.....ds, are more disliked than Arsewipe
Re: Are Arsenal Now Our Most Hated Team?
I don't think that they even play good football anymore. Wenger used to get praised for this and that he was forever developing a team. What young player has come out of Arsenal and done well? They signed players like Walcott, Ox-Chamberlain, Holding and Chambers and they all seem to stand still. They never seem to get better.
Anyway.
I'm sure after last season all their 'fans' will be hoping they win the 4th placed cup again.

Re: Are Arsenal Now Our Most Hated Team?
You can see what their own players think of the club, with Sanchez (sorry, Alexis, as if he's the only one in the world) whining and doing triple lutzes all day long, and Ozil begging off "sick" the day of the match. He must have had the Burnley flu, because he recovered pretty damn fast. They'll both be gone during the January transfer window.

Re: Are Arsenal Now Our Most Hated Team?
i loved the football they played under wenger when they were at their peak, great for the purists.
What spoils it for me is the media frenzy, spurs /arsenal/spurs /arsenal, ad infinitum.
They might not even have a game, but it doesn't stop tawk spowt and radio 5 from featuring stories about them. City may well be running away with the league title, but still arsenal particularly attract the imbecilic attention from idiots like Ian wright and MOTD.
last weekend was particularly hard to take, more so because of the game last season when we were mugged yet again.
I do want them to fall flat on their face nowadays. I am also convinced the officiating is bent to buggery when these London clubs are playing against the likes of us. ...so yes, I hate them more than any other club in the division.
