I am not sure if this has been mentioned or not yet, but on the TURF MOOR series on Clarets Player, Daz Bentley confirmed that plans are being drawn up for 2 new corner stands for disabled supporters.

Work due to start Jan and to be finished by August 2018. Also a new kiosk style building for the ticket office.

Below are screen grabs from the show:

Interesting. Wonder where the scoreboard will go then, or is that the end of it?

No decision has been made yet, although they did mention they are aware it is not visible by everyone where it is now

Looks good and look like finally our disabled fans will get somewhere decent to watch the game from.

Hope they can somehow put a screen up somewhere.

When will the work be done - anyone know?

And the police box. Or is that the top left of the corner between the JMc and BL?

how many would be able to fit into the new stands then?

Definitely spoken about either relocating it, or incorporating it into the new stand where it is now
clarethomer wrote:When will the work be done - anyone know?
As mentioned, work to be started in Jan and completed before august
martin_p wrote:Police box?
The stand will be build around the police box, with room for further development of the police box/control room in the future

They've captured the distance the JM stand is offset very well. If they do manage to fill the corners they'll look pretty skew whiff..... maybe the whole JM stand should be rebuilt centrally with corners added.

Aswell as its main job, it gas got the potential to look very smart, make a warmer, dryer and more atmospheric ground.

I'm happy with this.

Those corners should be filled and if we can accommodate our disabled fans in a dry, comfortable setting at the same time, even better.

I like the look of this. Shouldn’t cost a fortune either and much, much better for disabled fans. Also can be done with very little disruption to rest of ground. Hope there is some truth in it. The covered area by the ticket office windows is just a sensible improvement of the marquee that is there at present.

So this will increase stadium capacity by 50%?

Looks very nice and a logical move. Utilising space for an essential change with minimal impact to the rest of the ground. Win win.

100% true, confirmed on the official website on Clarets Player.

As for the temp marquee, its clear they had this development in mind because they mentioned putting a permanent one there when they build the shop would cause all sorts of issues for the new stands

The club have been weighing up getting a new screen for at least the last 18 months or so.

The hardware of the current screen is quite old, LED technology has come on leaps and bounds in the last 10 years and replacement parts have been hard to come by.

It wouldn’t surprise me if two screens are installed. They are a lot lighter than they were so they can be put almost anywhere now. I noticed a Premier League club has one installed on the side of a Stand now, I can’t remember who it was. But WBA have a bigger one too.

Will greatly add to the iggledy piggedly nature of the ground. I like it.

Would love the club to also invest in a more permanent fan zone structure similar to the set up at the Etihad albeit on a smaller scale.

Bournemouth and Newcastle have them in the side/cladded part of the stand.

For anyone using the stand between JH and JM - buy sunglasses and a peaked cap and remember to wear sun screen!
You will have a prime position sun trap in the better months.

Wonder if a new one will be capable of counting past 45 or 90 minutes?!

Do you know if they already have planning permission? If not, I don't see how they will be able to start in January 2018. Normally takes at least a couple of months to sort out even if there are no objections from anyone.

Agree with the post above that it will enhance the higgledy picceldy look of the ground which is part of its charm. I always think the gaps in the corners are a waste of space and they seem to emphasise how cheap and basic the 2 new stands are. Filling them in will make it look a lot better without being like a modern bowl.

League rules don’t allow the timer to go past 45 or 90 mins

It does look ok that actually.

Bout time our lesser abled supporters had somewhere reyt to watch from. These corner stands look quite good.

Scoreboard is bloody useless anyway, especially during the game.

To be honest, I’d be happy if the new stand walls got a wipe down. There’s only so much that can be done with the CFS and the BLS, but the new stands are looking a bit scruffy imo.

Fantastic news....if any fan deserves warmth and comfort on a filthy wet day at a game it is the less abled amongst us!

Great to see that the disabled supporters are finally going to be looked after well. The only thing I don't like about it is filling in between stands will reduce the wind gusting through, and that's one of the elements that makes the turf a hard ground for opposing teams to play

Might get jumped on for this, but here goes. It's a good thing that the club makes proper provision for disabled fans and lets them enjoy the game in comfort. But. Is it a good thing that they would be segregated from the main body of the fans? Could a more inclusive solution be possible?

The disabled aren't separated, ambulant disabled will still be able to sit anywhere. The new provision is for wheelchair disabled who require different facilities than able bodied and ambulant disabled supporters.

It's been a massive job for the club in trying to get plans approved by EHRC but it now looks as though that's come through. It was mentioned in last Sunday's match programme that they were going to be released soon.

Not really, because it’s not just a case of slinging a bunch of wheelchairs somewhere, they need proper access to disabled toilets, emergency exists and bar areas and to be catered for appropriately. This will be a built for purpose development that they deserve, rather than being treated like an after-thought.

Nowhere else in the ground can fit all this in.

I'm assuming the plans have been approved by EHRC. If so, we will have to submit a planning application after which we should see work starting very early in the New Year with the target to have this ready for the start of next season.

If we are doing this level of work it would be great to see the Bob Lord re-roofed to be stantion free and look more modern.

I presume to store the Ground staff's equipment, and to allow access for machinary like Cranes, and the " Desso " equipment for future relaying of the pitch ??

The planning application would take a minimum of 2 months but I wouldn't imagine it would be a problem getting permission because those corners are well away from any houses.

Fair point. I don't think I'd thought about the logistics of it.

While they're at it could they put some proper heaters in the Fanzone instead of those poxy little white things they have at the moment that would barely warm a box room?

It was bloomin freezing in there after the match on Sunday!

We are doing work as approved by EHRC at a cost of over £5 million. This project cannot be for anything else.

They are working with the council on the project because of the nature of it so I wouldn't have thought there will be anything other than a smooth ride through the planning process. It doesn't really affect anyone other than maybe the end house on the first row on Brunshaw Road with work to be done in that corner of the ground.

Looks excellent to me. I’m guessing this would put BFC right up there with the best accommodation for wheelchair users. It’s hard to tell from the artists impressions but there does appear to be a substantial capacity

Probably, for a ground like Turf Moor that is 100-and-odd years old. But new stadiums from the last 20 years or so would have facilities like this built in originally.

The disabled supporters appear to be much larger than the able-bodied on those images though which will reduce capacity.

That’s because they’re all lazy buggers, not doing any exercise n’all..... three flights of steps to the top row will sort the feckers out though

As an assistant to a disabled supporter and a user of these facilities this is by far greater than anything i imagined the club would implement. Well done BFC. I have been quite vocal with the club over a few issues this season on the whole they have resonded positively.

If i had one small possible critisim it would be that this solution does only allow for wheel chair and carer. Hard to say at this stage as the finer details have not been released but for example my dad is in a wheelchair. Im his assistant. My son sits in jhl block 8 so we are able to enjoy the match experience as a family.

Hopefully this situation could be facilitated somehow. But considering what we currently endure this solution is brilliant.
