Mee and Tarky in the heart of England's defence, would be nice. Very realistic too, with the alternatives who IMO aren't great.

and the report in today's Times:

Burnley duo James Tarkowski and Ben Mee in line for England call-up

Burnley’s centre backs are being considered for England call-ups by Gareth Southgate. Ben Mee and James Tarkowski have been central to the club’s outstanding start to the season. Jack Cork was given a first England cap in last month’s international against Germany at Wembley and his team-mates are also in the frame as Southgate ponders his World Cup squad. Southgate has given debuts to Harry Maguire and Joe Gomez at centre back this season and is keen to look at the Burnley duo. Only the Manchester teams have a better defensive record than Sean Dyche’s side in the Premier League this season, with Mee and Tarkowski ever present. Southgate’s desire to look at new centre halves is likely to be bad news for Chris Smalling, who has been dropped from the England squad, and Gary Cahill, who is clinging on to his place ahead of the World Cup.

Is south gate suddenly a good manager then?

Our two are credible candidates but I feel they need to start scoring the odd goal or so from set pieces to ensure they are up with the likes of Cahill and Smalling.

Will it happen? Will it ****.

The usual suspects will get the nod.

Not sure about tarka to be honest. Is he good? Yeah, he is. And I’m delighted he waited his time and is now getting his well earned rewards. Is he as good as Keane? Not for me he isn’t. Regardless of what’s happened in the last three months at Everton, I just believe Keane is the better option due to his pace.

Ben Mee would be in for sure. He’s immense. Odd mistake, but no more than Cahill, Terry et al.

Ben Mee is superb. Fact.

Keane will be back in the reckoning shortly now he is playing for a manager who knows how to sort a side out defensively. Tarks and Mee are good but SDs setup certainly helps them.

I'd take an England back three of Mee, Tarks and Michael Keane - with Jack Cork in front of them - and Tom Heaton or Nick Pope behind. It's about time a club team in claret and blue can "win the world cup."
