Centre Backs

Just before Arfields goal I think Tarks appeared to have pulled something and I honestly feared the worse. We desperately need another centre half as 3 is not enough. Suggestions who though?

Michael Keane.
£5m in january should do it.

Aden Flint
Michael Keane (if desperate)

Really can't see MK sat on his arse behind Mee and Tarks.

Agree. I was thinking this today when I saw the bench and Taylor was the only defender. We have done really well having a conveyer belt of replacements, hopefully we'll see the same in January.

Colin Waldron was decent.

Fair comment, but for all the panicking about Keane’s departure and the plaudits that he and Mee rightly received last season, it’s worth remembering that we won a Premier League game without either of them today.
Who’d have thought that a few months ago???

I bet dann was on 40k a week at rovers, and left for prem football and a hefty wage increase.

But think about it from his POV.

Wouldn’t have him at the Turf anyway. Over-rated and accident-prone.

Did we not win last season without them? I know Tark played at Palace but I can't remember who with?

Tarks partnered Keane at Palace where they both had outstanding games.

Everytime I have watched Brighton their Centre Halves are poor, usually after being built up to be world beaters.

Watched Bristol City yesterday and was impressed with aden Flint, big, strong, mobile and looked decent on the ball.
Once he has been through the Dyche treatment would be a very good option.
would not cost a fortune either.

Nedum Onuaha linked today....or is that Nedum O'Nooha

Wouldn't be surprised if we did bring in another centre-half.
Would provide us with full cover which we seem to have in most other positions.
Nedum Onuoha might well be the man.
Plenty of experience at our level and may have 2/3 seasons left in him.
Shouldn't cost too much either (3-4m?)

Hes out of contract in the summer and is virtually the last of QPRs big earners so they need to move him out.

He'd not be top of anyone's wanted list, but in terms of someone to come in and be extra cover at centre back from January, capable of playing anywhere across the backline, he's not a ridiculous option at all - he'd make a lot of sense. I know a few people who know him well and by all accounts he's a really nice bloke too - the sort you can imagine would fit right in with our ethos.
Its going to be a tricky one bringing in a centre back - much like 12 months ago, with Keane, Tarks and Mee are so well established that anyone we sign is realistically going to have to accept they start as back up - and not necessarily first reserve given the regard Long is evidently held in. So its either a kid, or someone of an age who is comfortable with the idea they'll be part of a squad.

I was really impressed by Kevin Long's performance yesterday.
I believe that we could find and polish another up and coming defender any time we wanted to.

Thought we had the ability to call upon Mr Taylor, if we needed another centre back?

We still need to bring one more CB into the squad, Ian, whether we have a developing player good enough, or need to sign another top defender, I don't know.
If Ward got injured today, given who was available, we'd have no more defenders even for the bench on Tuesday.
I think we'll move for another defender in the window.

Mee will be availale for Tuesday. Lowton not fat away. Cork can play centre back too.

It would be a desperate measure to move Cork.
We really need to bring in another CB.
I was hoping young Flowers could make the grade, if only because I can vaguely remember how good his grandfather was.

Cork would be unlikely to be called upon. Just there as a possibility.
How is Anderson performing? He was included pre season, before going on loan.
It probably depends on a bargain becoming available. Not desperate. We have gone through Championship seasons with less!

As a cheap option would be looking at Ragnar Sigursson from Fulham at loan at Rubin Kazan. Would be cheap and we know the Icelanders are disciplined. Whoever we bring in will be 3rd at best but probably 4th choice.

Like him also but clubs were told 15m plus in the summer so a no for me for a third at best choice centre back

Clearly yesterday showed we need abother CB if we weren't already aware. Obviously most are but it just became a reality.
Long did well enough and fortunately Mee's injury isn't by any means a bad one but not to have back up on the bench at this level is pretty poor.
Our position of strength has made this significantly less of a concern as we're not in a relegation battle but needs to be addressed in January.
