Cheggars was an alcoholic wasn't he - I knew he struggled for years.

So many people from our youth are dying. Guess that's what happens when you get older eh.

Didn't know that Janice Long was his sister. Feel for his family, especially with Christmas around the corner.

For those not old enough to remember shows such as 'Cheggars Plays Pop' and 'Saturday Superstore', I just hope his legacy won't be that show he presented in the nude. For those of you with a nervous disposition, I would urge you not to google it!

Seriously though, RIP Cheggars!

Always seemed a genuinely nice guy who was able to send himself up in later years and see that seriously "cheesy" era which made him famous for what it was.

Last time I saw him on TV was on Celebrity Big Brother. Back when CBB was a guilty pleasure of mine.

Seemed like a nice bloke, who openly spoke about how his cronic alcoholism almost killed him.

The premature death of someone I watched on TV so much during my childhood reminds me that we're all heading to the exit door quicker than we think.

He was a budding child actor and Open all hours fans will know that he was the young boy in the pilot episode.

The disease Chegwin had is called idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis, which causes scarring of the lungs.The reason this happens isn't clear. "Idiopathic" means the cause is unknown.

So not really a cancer or attributable to a particular habit from what I can see.

OK. I've known a few of those.

When I was growing up, we had "The Uncle Bobby Show" on local TV. I think he was a scouser, or maybe just scoused. He had live geese on the set. They stunk like h*ll. Eventually, Bob was convicted on some sort of sex crimes, and went home to Jolly Olde. Nobody was really surprised.
