Spotting a fellow claret

Wherever you go in the world. Always seem to spot a claret.
Saw one the other day at Peterborough services. Felt compelled to shout UTC (always winds the mrs up) at him. Turns out he was one of our irish contingent (dunno if he posts on here) on his way to stansted after visiting for the watford game. Burnley fan, from Ireland in Peterbrough on a Monday
Seen them in all kinds of weird and wonderful random places. Anyone else get that weird feeling and do that nod of acknowledgement that you wouldnt do if you saw them in Burnley Tesco?

I live in a village just outside Derby, a fellow Claret watches the local football team and another drinks in my local!

I've seen a few over here for sure. I was out on the strip the day after we won the Championship wearing my Burnley shirt proudly - two lads started singing Champions at me from the other side of the street ! Buzzing !

Bumped into Burnley fans pretty much wherever I have been but my favourite story isn't really about me. When I first joined the Army in the early 90s my unit was the Lancashire and Cumbria Gunners. There was a large contingent of Burnley Fans and others, nights in the NAAFI Bar were great singing football songs. Anyway my friend is a Liverpool fan one leave he went on Holiday with his Girlfriend. When we returned he said F***ing Burnley fans I have to put up with them at work and when I went away all I did was bump into more I can't get away from them. 20 odd years ago and it still makes me smile.

Saw Alistair Campbell in the canteen at work in London, on the day we were playing at Bournemouth. He was giving some sort of motivational speech.
Put political differences aside, decided to wish a fellow Claret well, and shouted Up the Clarets as he walked past. Big grin spread over his face until I asked if he was going to Bournemouth and he looked ****** off and said he had to be at some Brexit conference that evening.
Told him to sort his bloody priorities out and he disappeared chuckling to himself

I saw a claret with his girlfriend walking through Leeds about 3 months ago (I know... risky!). I cant remember what I said but we chatted briefly about the new signings and he loved my Burnley phone cover. We get everywhere.

The only time I can recall chatting to any Clarets on holiday was about 10 years ago when staying in seahouses.
Driving up the road that leads to the seaside village of Alnmouth I spotted a middle aged couple both of whom were sporting the replica shirt.
I give 'em a wave then spun round and had a very pleasant chat.
I think they said they actually lived nearby.
AshingtonClaret...JarrowClaret,weren't either of you 2 was it?

When I first moved back to the UK I went to a dinner hosted by Trevor Brooking at a UCL hall. Before re his speech he called out some football clubs, and fans of the same shouted out their approval. All the teams he called out were London-based Premier teams of the day (‘99), but then he called out “Burnley” so I stood up, and strangely enough another man at the same table did too. Out of the three or four hundred people in that hall, the only two Burnley fans were sitting at the same table.

I've had the UTC shout both in Gran Canaria and Clearwater (Florida).
This is what comes of being in Champions League places I suppose.

The steward was also a burnley fan UTC

I visited The Gabba recently for the first test. I went to the bar under the stands to get the beers in and was served by a young lad about 17. He saw my Clarets top and immediately said his Grandad was originally from Burnley, but had moved to Brisbane donkey's years ago. When he died his ashes were taken back to Turf Moor.
Later I saw two lads in Burnley shirts sitting a few rows back. I spoke to them and asked when they'd flown out. They said 4 years ago, but just didn't go back (and turf Moor was the only thing they miss!)
We then went to watch the Arsenal game at midnight in a virtually deserted local pub and yet ANOTHER Burnley shirt turned up and he too had moved out there many years ago, but would ALWAYS be a claret!

When I was a kid we spent our summer holidays camping in France
One year, on the day after we arrived we were greeted to the sound of a young voice chanting “Jimmy Mullens Claret & Blue army” coming from the tent behind ours - obviously we joined in.
Following year at a different site in France, we turn up to find the same family in the tent opposite

Years ago I was living in Lagos (Nigeria) and I saw one of the local street vendors wearing a really old Burnley top. I had my driver stop and ask him where he got it from. It turned out that a fellow Claret had "dashed" it to him a few years before. It looked pretty tatty TBH so a few days later he was wearing a much newer top (One of the P3 versions) courtesy of myself

Had it in NYC. Wondering around with my claret and blue scarf a local shouted George Boyd! It was after he scored the winner vs City. Also had TSA ask about us when seeing my passport. It's odd.

Started Working at Amazon in the middle of nowhere (Kentucky) got talking to this big bloke from Pennsylvania and we'd sit at the same canteen table every day. He was in an Irish folk band and turned out their penny whistle player was from Somerset but supported Burnley.

My family met a Burnley fan in Antigua. He was from antigua, and had never been to England. He just happened to be a Burnley fan

I was standing on the first tee on the first day of the golf tournament at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, proudly wearing my Burnley shirt, when the bloke (literally) standing next to me said 'Are you Burnley?' (even though it was obvious). He was an avid Claret, originally from Guildford whose father had supported Burnley all his life but neither had any other connection with the town. He was in Rio with his Brazilian wife and child who were baffled to see us chatting away, completely ignoring Justin Rose who was just about to tee off on his charge to a gold medal. We arranged to meet at the upcoming away game at Chelsea, which he was planning to attend.

We gave him a rendition of Burnalee Burnalee Burnalee, He turned around raised both arms with thumbs up and shouted Haaaaaaaaay Sheep Shaggers....

Was in Boroughbridge last week, during our late night shopping event with a mouth full of hog roast, wearing my BFC coat. This old chap, I am 63, came up recognising my badge and said he was a season ticket holder in the 60’s and now from Easingwold, wished he could still go, after I swallowed my pork, we exchanged numbers and he will be coming sooner rather than later.

Living in Wigan I know there are a lot around, and do know a lot of them
About 20 years ago my Washing Machine broke down, got a number from a Neighbor, for a local guy.
He came and guess what a Burnley Supporter in the next street.
After my car broke down, called a mobile Mechanic, another Burnley Supporter.
Met them on holiday in Eqypt ( should I mention that Holiday)
Cyprus, Cornwall, France and the latest in August at Almouth.
We went in my car as we had partners Daughter and Granddaughters with us
As we were coming back to our accommodation on our last night, the man next door started taking to my partner about football.
He owned the place next door to us and was a fellow Burnley fan, he had seen my BFC number plate and started taking everything Burnley.
My partner pointed to me and said shes the Burnley fan, we spend a good few minutes taking Burnley
and what we expected from our Chelsea game.
Do not think either of us expected that result, or the season we are having so far.
Burnley fans are everywhere

And with the continued success of the club and its increased media exposure, the Clarets are gaining more admirers. Just started going to the gym in the evening instead of the morning after a work change, and on first evening visit a lad in his 20s spots my BFC shirt and tells me how he and his best mate have been supporting Burnley over the last 2 seasons with the PL getting so much coverage on NBC channels over here. Then one of my new work colleagues, who admits to following Chelsea because of their success and TV exposure here, tells me that he has been so impressed with the Clarets on TV that he has been finding out as much as he can about the club -- and has certainly gained a lot of knowledge based on our chats. A few years back people would assume my shirts were WHU or Villa -- but now Burnley FC is getting a global audience.
