Hi guys, been reading the forum for years and finally created an account. Thought I'd introduce myself and see if there are any other clarets based down here in Crawley? Been living down here 3 years now and yet to meet a single Burnley fan !!

Afraid so, someone has to live here

The main selling point of Crawley is that it's NOT East Grinstead

This is the first I've heard of Crawley having a selling point

although it could be worse, it could be Croydon

There are quite a few of us who live in Sussex, though not sure how many are in or near Crawley. I'm down near Steyning.

Steyning isn't so far, is there ever any place folk get together on match days or anything like that?

In the first Premier League season there was a group called SussexClarets on here. We met up occasionally, mainly travelling to away fixtures in London but sometimes in a pub for the odd televised game.
That hasn't happened recently, mainly because the "group organiser" moved away. (Thanks for all your efforts dpinsussex).

I'm in Horley, just a few miles north of Crawley, been down here 20 years now. There's definitely a few Clarets around as I've met plenty in my time in the sunny south.

I was the other half of Sussex Clarets (with Dave). Unfortunately following our first relegation interest in the club waned so we decided to pull the plug on it.
There are actually quite a few Clarets along the South Coast. I am still based near Worthing.

I'm here pound hill...... Season ticket holder Clarets daft.
I made Crawley my home in 1988....but spiritual home remains the Turf. I did say to Claret Tony I'd move back if we made the Premier league..... I'm yet to fulfill on that.
Would love to meet up..... I may already have heard of you. I bumped into a Sunderland fan recently who told me there was a guy in his street (also pound hill) who was a Claret.
There are a number of us around Sussex and if there are some of us wishing to organise transport then maybe we could do that for Surrey and Kent Clarets.
I was disappointed with the demise of Sussex Clarets nick and dave did a great job of getting it off the ground.

Can't remember the name of the pub in Brighton, but the pub near Kings Cross was McGlynn's I think.

Hi Crawley Claret,
I am based in Dorking. As far as I know, I am the only claret in the village. I have bumped into a claret in next door Ashtead though at my daughters ballet class!
Maybe there should be a Surrey / Sussex WhatsApp group?

There is a keen Claret (my mate) living close to Dorking - part way between Dorking and Leatherhead (close to the new Beaverbrook Hotel).

I live in East Grinstead West Sussex and have supported the Clarets since the early 60s. I also know another Claret supporter Dave (don’t know his surname) who lives in EG

Yes you do. The name is a bit of a giveaway but I double up as rye united timshorts. Or I did until we packed up 3 years ago which had meant I've got to see a good few clarets games since.
Hope you are doing ok.

My inlaws live in Horley. I'm there quite often. Way back in the Championship days I can remember us being on TV, and traipsing from the Air Balloon, to a few other places looking for somewhere showing the game.

Great....here is my number 07882920591
My location again is Pound Hill CRAWLEY close to Three Bridges Station.
If anyone is interested in getting organised, please get in touch and I'll collect everyone's contact details. As suggested previously perhaps we can set up a WhatsApp group, arrange a meet up etc.
If Nick or Dave would still be interested that would be great too.

There were some great days out with Sussex Clarets, although my recollections as to their untimely demise is that those seeking tickets took the p1ss out of the organisers, and those organising tickets ultimately took the p1ss out of their sources.
It was only going to go one way unfortunately.

Kicker. There was no pi ss taking on my behalf i can assure you.
I find that comment quite insulting to be honest. All i did was spend a heck of a lot of time helping fellow clarets get to games.

There's a Phoenix club started up last season now in east Sussex premier (with the sidley equivalent) but it's not quite the same, somehow. A few of the squad players are there. As both are in rother, it's unlikely that either will go back in scfl.
Anyhow to get back on topic, a meet up wouldn't be a bad plan. As most of the respondents are in or around crawley that would seem the best option.

Disappointed to hear Rye United folded? I have been there many times around 2008 - 2011
I remember they had a hell of a tough midfielder who may have been a pro for a while.
Back to topic The Snooty Fox a sports bar (right outside Three Bridges station) is a popular meeting location. For those going to Palace perhaps we could arrange something also.

I have set up a Surrey Sussex WhatsApp group. If you would like to be in touch with local Clarets, maybe arrange occasional meet ups or perhaps arrange travel to a home game..... I hope the link works. If you join please add your name and location.... Etc

Hi Crawley Claret, your posting has certainly put together a number of Clarets in your area including myself (John) in pound Hill, Lee in Maidenbower, Darren in Dorking and Nick in Horsham. Together with a number of people already in touch locally. We have created a WhatsApp group. ( see earlier post). If you don't use WhatsApp then simply text me your details on 07882920591 and I'll contact you.
Anybody else reading this from the South East please feel free to contact me.

Yes, you're both right in thinking it was Duncan MacArthur. Yes he was aggressive but had pure talent. Was at west ham before Brighton then Langley sports before us.
He had to give up the game because of a serious back op. Very sad as football was his life.
He played in the schools cup final in the same team as Gareth Barry. Just goes to show that making it in football is more about aptitude and application than skill. Duncan was somewhat lacking in the first two in his younger days. Liked a can a bit too much.
