Put this on the penalty thread, but it may be better placed here:
Stone wall penalty, and I am confident it will be dissected on MOTD.
Referees, en masse, are terrible at their jobs. I don't believe it is a hard job, you need to have good eyesight and be fit - that is it. They are a cancer on our game and the sooner they are done away with all together and it's left to technology entirely, the better.
I am sick to death of them, the lot need sacking and left to get a real job somewhere where fitness and eyesight are not required, which kind of limits them, granted. Arrogant, unfit, blind, overpaid no marks. THE LOT OF THEM.

More fitting on this thread taio - whether you agree with it's sentiment or not.

There has been some utter dross in the middle of late for our games, and the best I've seen in the last what seems a dozen games has been Mike Jones, and I never, ever thought I'd say that!

I think it is getting to the stage where we could sue the refs association for loss of earnings.... I am joking about the lawsuit but we have been shafted this season beyond the possible probability

Can't referees get thoughts in a matter of seconds from the linos, where applicable?

they looked at the penalty shout over here in the studio after the game and it was a unanimous penalty should have been given. I doubt the gaffer will mince his words this time

We've been on the rough end of a decision today and possibly a few recently, but this is a moronic, pathetic and immature post.
If its an easy job, take it up yourself and qualify as a ref. If not, show some respect for someone doing what is actually a very difficult job - and also an essential one because the idea that technology can make every decision is the stuff of sci-fi.

I have no respect for referee's Spice. I am sure you have none for me also judging by your tone, I can live with it, believe me.

She was on the other touchline, Frank.
Where as Tierney couldn't have been better positioned. On the left wing looking from behind Hendrick.
He should have seen Jeff play the ball and the keeper play Jeff. Terrible, terrible decision but we are used to that.

Plenty of respect for you Jedi. But not for such a petulant, ridiculous post.
Put your money where your mouth if you dont have respect for them, and try and do their job. Until then, youre just mouthing off.

Mouthing off is all I ever do on here - I am sure plenty more will wish to do the same if we miss out on the Europa League by one or two points and think back to this match.

I won't disagree with that Spice.
I am not trying to bait you with this comment, but do you not feel the standard of refereeing is immeasurably worse now than say, 15-20 years ago? I cannot work that out for myself or whether it is just the sheer volume of immediate playback of incidents we have means that we can microscope their failings easier - perhaps they have always been this poor?
We are at a point in time when decisions such as dives/penalty shouts should be able to be immediately played back with results provided via earpiece to the referee. I think the amount of decisions missed in the box this season alone means they must be considering this seriously. This was Huddersfield v Burnley - what about if that was a foul on Harry Kane in the World Cup Final? It can't go on when we have the means to stop it.

I think many would agree about making some use of technology. But dont think every ref should be sacked.

I think it's fair to say this is the worst batch of refs there has been in the times we've been in the PL. Had Atkinson refereed today's game there would have been 20 bookings, the inconsistency is incredible this season.

The awarding or non-awarding of penalties is a huge talking point - hopefully to be put right with use of technology. Another bone of contention as alluded to by Vegas, is the poor decision making and a fall in standards, inconsistency over the application of the rules: the taking of throw-ins /free kicks where some refs allow players to dictate where they can be taken from, a failure by so many refs to correctly pace out the 10yds or allow players to encroach and players being allowed to show dissent / or even surround the ref in order to pressure their decision making. When refs, who have a hard job yes, do not apply even the most straightforward of rules it reduces their overall effectiveness and the players acceptance of control. We have all seen instances of these elements at the Turf and the teams who try to "ref" the match. No, I don't want nit -picking and whistle happy refs, just a clear, considerate consistency to both teams, who will then respect the trio in charge and know they cannot take advantage without facing just sanctions.

I referee kids football on a Saturday morning in a voluntary capacity and I can tell you it's not easy, I have both sets of kids moaning at me ,my lad probably moans at me the least.
The saddest thing is the copying of professional footballers antics by 9 year old lads.
All the arguing about the Ali penalty, I will see kids in the penalty area falling over and demanding a penalty. If I'd of given that on a Saturday morning I would have parents saying I was spoiling the game

The premier league is the most watched league in the world. It attracts the best players from all over the world and they are paid sums of money we, the paying public, can only dream about. Some teams struggle to put out a starting eleven that contains any English qualified players.
Given that it is the norm to bring in foreign talent to play why then can't we attract foreign referees to officiate the games? On the whole the champions league refs do a decent job - not all of them all of the time - but generally. Clattenberg has gone off to the Middle East to ply his trade and presumably he isn't the only one. ( I don't know for sure, someone can clarify).
I don't know if it's the FA or the Premier league that appoints the officials but
If referee mobility of trade is becoming more acceptable, please can we have one that is capable of giving Burnley the odd stone-wall penalty?

Mike them up like at rugby, it'll soon stop them wanting to be mates with the stars, and the stars verbally abusing them for 95 minutes.
The players don't respect the officials, it was cringeworthy at old Trafford what the players and fans did to try and get a result.
But I'm convinced the refs have some influence from the powers above what they see and what they don't, and are always 110% backed up by the powers above when a howler or contentious decision is highlighted.

I doubt that. There is just far scrutiny than before. If you watch highlights from ten years ago I suspect there were just as many wrong decisions but there would have been only one camera angle.
Now, there are a multitude of different places that cameras can be positioned alongside a football pitch.
Even we've got the lower level gantry's that get rarely used (Chelsea 2014).

Add to that: players are getting much more accomplished at cheating and the unofficial re-writing of the rules which is now being applied and accepted.

The annoying thing is, the refs and their govmerning body are fully aware of how the game is going, but are moving to manage/combat the problems slower than the players are manipulating it.
Fining players/clubs for misdemeanours is utterly, utterly pointless. The only thing they will understand is what has led to them being sat on the bench for the last four weeks.
Players and managers run the game, not referees. The rules need changing, they need changing drastically, and they need changing over night. It needs to be quick, and it needs to be ruthless. But it won’t happen. Football is embarrassing itself. And it doesn’t really care due to the amount of money that’s involved.

Refs are bobbins again a ref has got a pen wrong. Yesterday was a stone Waller and today WBA have got a pen when the ball hit the hand and Chambers had no way of getting his hand out of the way. They are pathetically inept to say the least

Players at the big clubs are so cosy with the referees it's disgusting. Referees are groomed. I think.we should have independent foreign referees.
