First of all today was unlucky but I'm really struggling to see what it is Hendrick offers in this position. You can sort of script it beforehand that he will eventually come off on 70ish minutes having been ineffective yet again. Not doubting the effort but for me he needs to be dropped

Can only be moved once we find that natural player in the hole.

Is this from today's viewing or the last 4 or 5 games? He's been gash for a while, but whilst the first objective is a clean sheet, and we have no one to fill that role, he will remain a starter.
Sadly there were a few others just as bad today.

He never seems to go for headers, ever. I don't mind if he can't bring it down or if he's gambling on the defender missing it but he never gets up and nods it on.
Undoubtedly he's a good player but he's not a number 10 or a CAM. At least we have the time to bring one in. I'd love Lallana but 0% chance he'd come of course.

Whilst Wood is injured, start with Vokes with either Barnes,Walters or Wells in the number ten role. Especially at home. I like Hendrick, he,s a good player but he and the position are wasted in the current starting format.

For me its not Hendricks that is the problem (although he has been lacklustre recently) - it's Bardsley!
Solid enough but offers nothing in terms of out ball. No creativity coming from that side. done a good job replacing Lowton but if Lowton is fit he should play.
Thought Defour was sloppy off the ball today and wtf was that kick out at there player about?

Abysmal today and has been most games. Huddersfield and broghton aside. Aka two promoted sides. For his size incredibly soft.

I’d play Hendrick and defour in CM next game and drop cork to have Walters/Barnes in the CAM

I though Defour was the only one if the three who comes away with credit. Cork was poor first half and absent second.
Bardsley I agree with, not enough on the ball ability. And for all the hype around Taylor he doesn't attack anywhere near enough compared to Ward.

Been saying this for weeks now.
Barnes is the most natural “number 10” we have - and not just because it’s his squad number

Poor again today but he is being played out of position. Cork looked tired for me today, second half looked like his legs had gone completely. Thought we played brilliantly today and were unlucky with the deflected cross falling to Mane for their first and their second looked offside for me as it's headed across. Can't win them all, I'm just hoping we can add depth to our squad this January.

Yup agree on Cork today. however reality now kicking in - Its great to be ****** off with a shaky 1 goal defeat by Liverpool.

For me he lacks the technical ability to play there, yes he natural with his back to goal and can hold it but he not got the vision or ability to play there consistently.
I guess really he kind of plays a Number 10 in the line up anyway with the way we play as we don't play with a number 9 in any shape or form.

So the same as Jeff but with the added ability of at least knowing when & where to get forward & supporting whichever of Wood/Vokes is the front man

I wouldn't have thought so. With his physical abilities I suspect he could potential bring many more in.
I guess the vaunted number 10 playmaker we are taking cost lots of money.

Poor yet again. He is a good player but is not cut out for this position. In fact sometimes I think a cut out would offer more.

Jeff Hendrick cost a lot if money.
It's got us 7th, when we win it's ok as results mask
the performances, however when we lose it looks awful.
I like Jeff, it's just he's no number 10

Sean dyches tactic of outworking the opposition is fine first half of the season, but can't be kept up all season long once fatigue sets in. You will now drift down the league to a more realistic position.

I think Vokes deserves a starting spot.
For me, Cork has been a bit shaky recently, but not sure it warrants a sport on the bench.
Although we may see the best of Hendrick if he returns back to the middle of the pitch.... Difficult decisions for Dyche to make.

Hendrick is a real weak link in the team in my opinion. Watch him carefully and virtually every pass goes backwards sometimes from promising positions. He also seems to lose every 50/50 ball. Just not a Premiership standard player. Until he came to Burnley he couldn't command a regular spot in a Championship team.

I'd rest Cork and give Westwood a run. He's looked decent when ever he's come on. As an aside I met his dad who was in the crowd at Leicester and said how happy he is at the club but desperate to be given a chance

You could pick apart almost everyone’s performance today maybe tarks aside as they all did things poorly at times or weren’t up to the standards they have sometimes set.
Hendrick does pass the ball backwards loads but that’s because he receives it with his back to goal and someone on him most of the time.
My belief is we would be considerably weaker with Wells, Barnes or Vokes in that role both defensively and technically.
The fact is with Jeff in that position we have achieved more points than when we used to play 4-4-2 and more than anyone expected.
A proper up grade as pointed out above will cost the club an awful lot of money and where do we find a hard working, technically gifted, position aware attacking midfielder?

OK just remember this .we are in the premier league. Not the 3rd or 4th division. And the money spent by big clubs is a lot daft .

Which is irrelevant to the point I'm making. Doesn't matter what league we are in, how much others are spending etc it's about getting the best out of Jeff Hendrick and utilising the number 10 role better.

Absolutely anonymous again today. Lacklustre effort, not an ounce of physicality and zero competitive edge. I think if Wood was fit we may well have seen him come in and Barnes drop deeper. I’d still be looking to do that with Vokes as we’re effectively playing with 10 men at the moment. Dyche obviously sees the stats and I assume Hendrick is in the side for his fitness and discipline off the ball, but that nowehere near justifies his selection in my opinion.
This position, along with a left sided midfielder and centre back must be on the shopping list.

Completely nonplussed by the comments on this thread and more than a little concerned it means Hendrick isn't going to win Burnley fans over.
He was anything but anonymous in the first half today- he was involved plenty, with good rotation in midfield meaning he was regularly getting on the ball on genuine midfield positions, and a number of our best movements coming from errors he forced or from him picking up the ball and driving between the lines. For my money, he was our best player in the first half with the possible exception of the centre halves.
I didn't think he was that much less effective in the second half either, although the fact we had less of the ball meant he was having to fight for scraps a bit more. For my money hed have stayed on the park ahead of Corj in particular when we went 442.
Hes not a player who will win lots of flicks ons or play with his back to goal like a target man - that's not his game and it's not really what Dyche wants him to me. Nor is he going to throw himself into tackles like Joey Barton might. I cant help but wonder if that's colouring some perceptions of him. One way or another I'm clearly seeing far more from Jeff Hendrick than virtually everyone else on this messageboard (although as ive pointed out, he's started every league game for which he's been fit this season irrespective of the impressive form of his replacement, which suggests Dyche values him highly).

I thought Cork struggled a bit today, probably needs a rest. Not surprising since he ran non stop at Huddersfield 48 hours earlier.
Don't agree with comments about Hendrick though, thought he had a reasonable game today.

The only point i see why Hendrick continues to play in that position is due to his harassing and closing down as the leader of the hunting pack involving the striker, left & right midfield (at the mo, Arfield & JBG); his athleticism and speed over short distances wins us a lot of balls to then break quickly in opposition's territory. Unfortunately, he doesn't do enough with the ball when he gets it and probably why he plays for us!!!
We have clearly struggled attacking wise since brady got injured and it may be time to revert back to last year's tactics and go 4-4-2 with Vokes (who should be involved more) and Barnes but does SD trust Defour in a 4?

Our best chance in the first half was created by Hendrick laying it off for Arfield to curl it just wide.
He missed a pass in the first half, and had his back to a pass in the second, which he got slated for.
He's doing a job there, and has already been pointed out that is part of a team that is in 7th place.
I'd like some competition for his place (Arfield) but I think he is doing ok, certainly better than a lot on this thread are making out.

Hendrick is hardly the “ invisible man” he’s made out to be but the position he plays in really doesn’t suit him. That said he appears nothing more than a hard working midfielder .Weve no one to replace him, more so with our injury list.

I think Vokes and Barnes should start.
Sam is better in the air, and Ash is better with the ball at his feet. At least it sticks when it comes his way, that is more than you can say for most of them around him. Ash can also do the donkey work that Jeff does when we don't have the ball, and occasionally stick one in the net.
Jeff is better suited as cover for Cork or Defour.
