my pc is getting a bit sluggish....can anyone recommend a very easy...non hassle fix....was looking at this thing in the link....would that do the job or is there better out there....cheers.

- Delete Temp Files
- Run ADWCleaner and CCleaner
- Check Windows Updates are installing/up-to-date

Those 4 easy steps should make a difference. Don't need to buy anything. I'd never use any software that "Does it for you".

The thing on that link is only antivirus software on a USB stick which you can get for free. Do you have a mechanical hard disk or an SSD? If you have a mechanical disk, relplace it with an SSD to get the best performance increase you can get. There are guides out there on how to do this, we’ve even been through it on this forum a few times. Find out what you have and then look on amazon for an SSD, you’ll get a good one for about £50 these days

Also check how full your hard drive is and delete some unsused files, clear all the clutter such as icons and folder shortcuts off your desktop and if you can be bothered fit some more ram as this will definitely improve the speed for little money and only minor hassle .

As he said PC I assumed it's a desktop not a laptop and thus less likely to contain an SSD. Without more info difficult to give better advice. Those steps would be a good start though. Fitting an SSD isn't quite as easy as it sounds when it comes to reinstallation of OS etc etc so not something I'd quickly suggest to someone non-technical.

More RAM. That's the only real way to speed up your PC. There's also free app called ATF-Cleaner which is much more efficient at removing/deleting unwanted files or anything.

I'd also look at what is starting up automatically when you boot your PC. A whole variety of unnecessary programs tend to set themselves to laumch when your PC does and a lot of these can be disabled. The exact method depends on your version of Windows, although I think CCleaner has an option to select them as well.

Programme it to sing any Burnley song.

Should be easy enough to double up on the RAM then. That`s where the speed comes from, how much memory not the size of hard drive.

No where did he say he wanted a free option! He was actually thinking about buying a near useless fixMeStick for £47.00, so Ram would be a cheaper more obvious upgrade. And as long as you can wield a screwdriver it`s not a complex job to install, especially with our 6 fingers.

Backup and reformat.

If that doesn't solve it then buy a new machine.

No nonsense.

I installed this today and it was a disaster! It slowed my machine start-up to the point that I didn't think it was going to go. I tried system restore but it wouldn't work because the programme was holding a file and restore couldn't access it. I had to uninstall the programme - it took three attempts to do it - and then restore worked, or said it did, there's still shortcuts left on my desktop and the VPN is still working. AND --- the start- up is still slow.

Really sorry to hear that, I've got it on my Desktop PC, Laptop and two tablets and it works really well.

So I'm surprised and gutted that you're having problems.

I installed on works pc and not had any problems....could be a faulty install....but I am not a computer expert by any means.

I have used several programs like this but always found even if they worked to begin with the computer always ended up lagging later until they where uninstalled.
The best program I have seen & user for uninstalling programs is IObit uninstaller which you can download free.
You might have to reinstall the 360 pragram and then use the IObit to uninstall it & all short cuts etc.

I was speaking to a microsoft engineer a while ago & he wouldn't recommend any speed uptool, his advice as others have said on here is to install a SSD drive for faster boot up & program access & increase the Ram if it is possible it isn't always depending on your motherboard.

Thanks, all, for the input - got it sorted now. I did another restore from a much earlier date and everything was cleaned up OK.

Step by step guide....

1, fill up the bath with warm but not boiling water
2, unplug the PC from the mains
3, hammer throw the PC into the tub
4, allow to soak for approximately 3 hours
5, prepare the sledgehammer
6, remove the PC from the tub and hit 3 times with reasonable force using the sledgehammer
7, collect up shards of the PC and soak in a bag of rice for 6 hours
8, carefully glue the PC back together, piece by piece.
9, order a skip or take to the waste site
10, with the hammer throw motion you practised earlier, throw the PC into the skip.

Thought this might interest a few.

A member of the family builds PCs and he says that computers purposely slow down over time so you have to upgrade them. He says the best way to get the pc back up to speed is to back everything up, format the HD and then reinstall everything.

Because it's pretty much scamware!....That's why it's free. Anyone thinking it works is sadly kidding themselves. Make sure you remove it completely!
Personally, I wouldn't use any Qihoo 360 programs, since they recently got blacklisted from the three major Antivirus testing labs for using deceptive methods and lots of fake alerts in their products to increase their efficiency during benchmark tests.
Anything like this should be googled to find others who've used it and are satisfied it works. 99% of these apps are a scam which come bundled with all sorts of bloatware. This particular one is difficult to remove completely, needs a 3rd party app to remove it fully.
