Anybody else still think he could to a job for us. Forget what's gone on previously. A big ask I know but change the system to two upfront and he would be ideal, we still need a creative number 10 in the box. A loan deal might be good for all parties, it would give him the chance to prove himself. No doubt there will be other interest but I'm sure the Dyche charisma would sell it. I understand he's been playing well in reserve games.

He would be perfect for the no10 position.

Been out injured for 2 seasons and I'm still annoyed he didn't sign a contract with us. Time to move on.

I'm sure we could negotiate a loan deal based on his fitness. Apart from cover for Brady, he is exactly what we need.

May be a real good loan signing but he won't be the big shot he was in his last season for us. Can't see Sean Dyche taking him back like he would for example Trippier.

Dyche would take Trippier back like a shot, the two of them get on that well.

From what I'm told that is very unlikely to happen at Burnley with the current set up, but I'm not sure what the obsession is with Ings. We know his ability but we've moved on a hell of a lot from when he played for us and he's hardly kicked a ball in the two and a half years since. I know there are a lot of clubs interested in taking him on loan, will be interesting to see where he goes.

Not sure it was so much running his contract down as his attitude in his last few months at the club once Liverpool had officially shown interest. I think in general from the promotion season onwards his attitude was that he was too good for Burnley.

Anyone is entitled to run their contract down and that comes with its own risks.

I think he will be a good loan signing for someone, unlikely to be us, but given his injury record moving for cash would be a big risk for any club to take.

It was the previous away game at Sunderland when he showed total disinterest. He'd just been told he wouldn't be going to Liverpool in that window. Dyche said after the game that he nearly didn't play him but he did and then took him off.

That goal at OT was brilliant though. Superb cross from Tripps but Ings' movement in the box to get the space is what makes it.

He's not, and I've certainly no problem with that at all. I was told that it's things that have happened since he left that would make it unlikely he'd return any time soon.

After the window had closed whereas the sulk came before it closed. I thought Ings was fine after that, right up until the end of the season. As said, from what I've been told, it's events since he left that have soured things.

I thought the understanding was that it was largely how Ings conducted his part of the tribunal to try to ingratiate himself to Liverpool at the expense of any post-move relationship with our hierarchy?

Always been a rule of mine that you don't burn bridges on your way up, but maybe not one of Mr Ings' rules, who knows?

I too have been told in the past about the "strained" relationship between Ings and our managerial team.

I watched Sean before the game, against Tottenham he went out of his way to go and shake Trippier's hand who was sat at the far end of the bench....yesterday he didn't make the same effort for Danny.

FWIW i always thought Ings didnt quite do enough in the PL season with us (admittedly his first). But he has played very little football since and so wouldn't be one of my preferences should we be looking.

With hindsight, he took a real gamble running his contract down. He’d already had two knee injuries (one very bad) and there was always a risk he could break down again. As it was, he was lucky in that his next bad injury came shortly after he had signed for Liverpool, but if it had come at the end of the previous season he could have easily been without a club.

Surprised to hear that his relationship with Dyche has gone so sour. He always seemed a decent lad when at Burnley and certainly his work in the community would support that. Never struck me as a billy big balls.

If this is the case then Sean went against everything he believes in having the right characters within the squad. Why keep him? Maybe because if we had any hope staying up that year, we needed Ings.

I watched the warm ups for the last 2 games. As our players left the field there were lots of big hugs with Tripps. There was acknowledgment of Ings but nothing like the same warmth. I know what I read into that but you can make up your own minds as to how the players would welcome him back.

Those annoyed that Ings didn't sign a new contract while at the same time lauding Trippier because he did might reflect on the respective transfer fees/compensation received. Just a thought.

The problems, as suggested, started after he left.

Bit like being dumped by a bird so all your mates start slating her. Then a month later your'e back with her and everyone back tracks.

The best player we've had in years. How good he is now is open to question but I'd have him back.

Detour otherwise know as Defour is a fine player but Ings for me was much more fun to watch, more inventive and scored goals, a rich man's Blake.
Put Rodriguez above Defour also before injuries but many would not agree.

Also Heaton, Pope, Mee, Tarkowski, Keane, Brady, Gudmundsson, and i'd even argue Wood are all above Ings for me

Defensively Mee Tarka Trippier Keane Heaton and Pop are the best in generations and few realised just how good a defensive unit we were even the manager at times

Oh he did it, largely in the Championship, but to suggest we should risk re-signing him, or that he was the best player we ever had in the modern era is just batshit.

There aren't many players i'd have back, but Austin, Jay Rod and Gary Cahill are three, if we can count loanees.

He could do things other players couldn't. Yes we've had more complete players, more composed players but no player in the modern era had more natural ball playing ability and end product.

We haven't got time to be dicking about with him.

I'd rather we signed someone who hasn't been out for the best part of 2 seasons with knee injuries.
We've moved on and are a better team without him as it stands.

Just need a winger to replace Brady because his absence is quite noticeable.

He was good, but the way you're waxing lyrical you'd think he was our version of Messi.

Joey B gets me off my seat in anticipation far more often in a game, so did Brady.
Defour is better at playing those defense splitting passes.

Ings was good, but you need to watch the new lads.

The troubles with Ings started while he was still with us but as others have said we have moved on

I'd imagine he might have been told that he's spent quite enough for what results he's getting, and he might be advised to try and coach the ones he already has?

when he left us he was our best player along with Trippier - if he came back now I honestly don't think he would be in the top 3
