Getting to the Etihad

This info may not be news to some of you on here, but I have just been informed of
a company called Vamooz, who, some way another, are linked to the bus service in our
area and are running a service to the Etihad on Saturday. Apparently the more people who
use the service the cheaper it becomes. For this particular trip, the max cost is £11.50 return
but will be, depending the number of users, as low as £7.50 return.

They pick up from Queensgate at 12.45 and Croft Street at 12.55. The return trip is at 17.30.

There is an app that you can download, apparently, which you can use to book and pay.

I'm not going to do that, preferring to leave that to the younger members of our party of seven
who know what they are doing.

The more the merrier and the cheaper it will become. So come and join us for a fun filled
day at the Etihad.

PS You have to show a valid match ticket to use the service.

They did it for Man U - I assume they won't bother for Palace, Newcastle and Swansea.

I'm not sure how it works, or who makes the decisions. If a request is made from someone,
anyone or the club, maybe they would consider putting one on.

I haven't downloaded the app, so I don't know what info is on there tbh.

My favourite bus trip was when we played Spurs. Drove to Greenford. Used my bus pass to Wembley. On return, got seat in bus, as found where the temp stop was. Bus took me to stop opposite my car. Love my new bus pass!

I'm driving and thinking of coming in from the M60 at Ashton under Lyne and street parking at Audenshaw. Done the google maps check. Plan is get there early... tram into city centre for drinks and food and head back to the stadium. My theory is/was that if we get on at the Velopark i will be going in the opposite direction to most and once at my car its not far to the M60. However having thought about it the Velopark is after the Etihad Campus stop and any trams will be pretty full by the time they get to the Velopark heading east. Not so sure now

Are there plenty of trams after the game?

Anyone wanting to park you get 3 hours free at asda behind the stadium. Only issue is getting away can be a bit of a blag.

Just wondering if anyone knows the best place to park on Saturday near the Etihad for those fans travelling by car? I don't really know that area of Manchester so not got a clue

There are 2 car parks at the south end of the stadium in areas C & D for away fans. £10 per car. Sounds as good as anything else. Just of Ashton New Road.

velopark and holt town tram stops (before and after the ground) are closed for an hour after the game so you'd have to use etihad campus anyway.

You will have to use Etihad Campus. There tend to be massive queues for trams back into the city but not going the other way. We always use one of the free tram stop car parks at the Ashton end of the line and it is very close to the M60.

That is a good shout CT. Parking anywhere near the Etihad is a nightmare. I live in South Manchester and get home from turf Moor about an hour before my neighbours who park there.

There is a shuttle bus that leaves from near Piccadilly Gardens and returns from the main road near the away end ( turn right as you leave the ground). This bus has priority lanes and will get you back the City centre ( just off Piccadilly Gardens) in about 15 minutes. There are loads of buses there and they leave as soon as full, you wont wait 10 minutes.

You can buy a one way ticket from Etihad if you want.

May as well walk back to the centre was my thought the last time, on the train over.

Ask me again at 17:30 that day what I should have done, and it wasn't walk anywhere, never mind all the way back to the centre.
There wasn't a piece of clothing I had on that day that wasn't wet through, and that includes my underwear!

Just to confirm I have spoken with Stagecoach who are aware of the large away following and are running extra buses to/from the stadium.

The bus service is 216 and departs from outside the Travelodge opposite Piccadilly Gardens.

They have supplied a map of the location but I am unsure on how to post.

Thats my plan. There are two stops next to each other at Ashton Moss and Ashton West. Both have decent sized park and ride.

Is the one in Ashton near the Ikea - Just wondering if worth parking in there and getting the tram from there? Or is there a better stop to park at?

Yes, there are two stops near Ikea (ashton West and Ashton Moss) both with park and ride. Ashton Moss is slightly nearer the Etihad though.

The Ashton Moss one is where the retail park is, Five Guys, Cinema, Nandos. The one closer at Audenshaw has a big car park (all car parks free for Tram users, you need to go right round the back of the retail park to be right by the tram station for the free parking) and the Sheldon Arms pub a couple of mins walk away.

One thing to remember post match is that the "every 12 mins" is a bit hit and miss going out of town, so small queues but you need to get lucky to get a tram quickly going to Ashton. Also, you'd think it's be quick getting away but the tram shares Ashton New Road with cars !!! So you end up stuck in a tram in a traffic jam.

We've always used Ashton Moss but when we got there, albeit a little bit late, for the league game it was full. We had to drive up to Ashton West and street park. But if you get to Ashton Moss in good time, it's a good place to park. It does take a while for the tram to get back because of the traffic but it's not too bad. I think it is about £2.70 return on the tram.

It was after 2 o'clock - and we only just missed getting on. We prefer to get there a bit earlier but it took us an age to get from the M60 to the car park for some reason. We'd have been better turning left coming off the motorway and going that way rather than turning right.

Parked in Ashton for the league game, was a nightmare trying to get on the tram for the return journey (around 40 minutes).

We've decided to drive from Keighley to Hebden Bridge, get train (3 stops) in to Manchester for a few beers.

With the weather as it is we could be on for a repeat performance from our game earlier this season. Late trains back all cancelled and people having to get cabs from Rochdale!

Train from Rochdale meeting up with mates from Burnley and Tod. Then Angel on Rochdale Rd the Fringe Bar and a quick stroll down the canal bank. Weather should be fine and cold Saturday which will hopefully mean we don't have to swim back to the city centre which was the case for the league game.

I presume there's more than one service that goes through Rochdale to Manchester Victoria because the one going from Burnley will struggle to pick up once leaving Burnley due to being full.

This. Last time it was crazy on the train with the crowds. Lots of people left on Rochdale platform. They can't even put anymore trains on as they don't have the rolling stock.

There are 4 trains every hour from Rochdale to Manchester. I'm aiming for the 937 from Burnley which leaves Rochdale at 1010. Failing that will catch the next one about 1030.

Trains from Rochdale on the hour, 10 past 25 and 41 minutes past. Only the 10 past starts in Burnley. So you will have no problem. And there is a large free car park at Rochdale. Never had a problem before but I guess I've just jinxed that!!

Anybody feeling like a nice walk who is on the X41 / X43 into Chorlton St a walk along the canal to the Etihad is only 1.7 miles away and takes you to their front door.

You would breeze that in 20/25 minutes.
