White lines and cats eyes
Like giving way, almost a relic of a by-gone age on many roads down here.
One would think after all these years and our perceived belief we have become more rational and knowledgeable, road visibility and safety understanding would have produced better not worse roads and driver capabilities.
The same with speed limits which in the countryside rarely have anything to do with road conditions or suitability.
When it comes to roads we largely exist in the dark ages and are dependent on the improvements in vehicles to get us by.

Random post but fair.
Since coming back to the UK after a prolonged stint away I have seen driving standards that would be worse than Thailand!!! Absolutely shocking....also, pretty much zero courtesy on the roads.....just bad!

I absolutely agree. There are tons of t0ssers who won't get out of my way quick enough.

Re: White lines and cats eyes
In Portugal theynow have flourescent plastic tubes every 10 or so yards on double white lines in the centre of the road. I think it's very effective, as it gives a roadworks feel to the situation and makes it clear that transgression is not to be considered.
I thought of suggesting it here, but never got round to it.

Re: White lines and cats eyes
When cats eyes are done well using red green and white they are a hugely valuable aid to driving.
Sadly the most dangerous roads in Britain the A roads generally have defective lining and eyes increasing accident risks substantially.
Sadly as in many things progress is regression.

There's a saying... No such thing as a dangerous roads. Speed and inconsideration to other road users is the main problem.end of IMO.ablueclaret wrote:When cats eyes are done well using red green and white they are a hugely valuable aid to driving.

Well sayings can sometimes be stupid, good roads enable drivers of all capabilities to drive well. Sadly we now have a situation where we are relying on the improvement in car technology to mask the deterioration in the actual highways.

Patience
Manners
Queueing
Respect
All a dying breed...
So much impatience today. The minute a plane lands and everyone jumps up fighting to get their bags and get off. causes chaos. People fighting to get on the train or tube first. Today in the tube station the escalator was closed for two minutes and everyone is arguing. Complaining they cant just walk down it - there was a staircase and lift they could use.
Giving way to traffic, letting traffic flow etc is almost non existent.
Queueing in shops. For trains and buses.
Slow down. You will get there quicker and more importantly more relaxed!
Nb. The roads are a shambles mind.

Re: White lines and cats eyes
Driving standards around here are awful.
My commute involves a light controlled roundabout, where the left hand lane turns sharply to the left, and the right hand lane goes straight across the roundabout.
At least twice a week there's someone cutting the right hand lane up.
They even do it on the other side of the roundabout: right hand lane bends round the roundabout, left hand lane goes straight on. There's always someone cutting up the right hand lane there too.
W*nkers.

Is it OK to consider a cartoon character as ahem, shaggable ? Cos if it is, Daphne from Scooby Doos' gettin' it.

Re: White lines and cats eyes
You made a similar complaint last year.
Get your eyes tested or give up driving at night.
Either that or buy a decent car - I had a Hyundai on hire last year and quite literally lost the road the lights were so **** (didn't have lines or cars eyes though)

As I said starting the authorities are relying on improved vehicle technology, sadly it's youngsters in old bangers with relatively poor headlights who are paying the price. I realise you couldn't care less about that but for some of us it's an issue worth highlighting.

I was always enamoured by the Cadbury’s Caramel Bunny; ostensibly naked but for that big red bow, and that voice! Hubba hubba!50 shades of Grey wrote:pureclaret wrote»

France, Spain, Italy and Greece....... shocking driving. High death rates based on population.
Some crap drivers here too of that there is no doubt but statistically the death rate is way down on years gone by. Some of the safest roads in Europe are right here.
Portugal are shocking as well. They have on average 9.5 deaths per 100,000!!! We are down at 3.5 per 100,000.

Ha ha, only Up The Clarets can move from road safety to wondering if it's ok to fancy cartoon characters.
