Always was a strange buy and for him a strange move but now is the opportunity to prove himself so I fancy he'll be staying.
Likely to move on in the summer if has not established himself at least as an important squad member.

Always was a strange move and maybe the loan signing has speeded things up, would have thought he would have wanted to try and break into the side this season, but at his age playing is important so maybe he has made the decision a move is for the best.

Dont think it was a strange move. Far from it. But the early injury at ewood played a huge part. And naturally will take a player like him longer to recover. Then our form since has meant its been impossible for him to get back in.
He could easily have slotted in as well as Bardsley. Some work some dont.

As he hasn't been a regular because of injury not sure that will come into the equation. I fancy he knows he needs first team football at his age and probably could still have had it back at Stoke. It was an odd signing.

Anything but a strange move and but for the injury I think he'd have proved to be an outstanding signing for us, and might still if he can get and stay fully fit.

Strange move at the time, brought in for his character more than anything you would assume.
Hasn't really offered anything here in short appearances.
Get rid of 40k a week off the wage bill.

I bit difficult to offer anything when you are out injured. He's only had 36 minutes in four substitute appearances in the league and the start at Blackburn in the cup when he got injured early in the game.

Would be strange if he left given he can apparently play on the wing as well & we are very short in that area

I wouldn't go as far as saying outstanding CT.
Possibly the injury is why it's Sunderland who want him, couple that with our good season maybe why he has to go elsewhere, but I wouldn't say any of our strikers have kept him out of the side through being massively inform. We are still playing 1 player out of position.
It didn't work out due to his age.
The question marks around the signing were because of his age, not prolific record and possible injuries and recovery time.
Sadly those concerns were correct.
If he's 4th/5th choice for a 1 man position, and we are to progress he's another that needs to leave.

With the exception of Cork, I don’t think any of last summers signings have set the world on fire yet, but what they have done is given us more squad depth.
I actually think the success stories of this season have been players we signed in the summer of 2016 and January 2017 who have really kicked on (Brady, Pope, Defour & Gudmundsson).

This.
Bench is currently looking very short of game changing options - this move would only weaken it.

If we get Lennon I can see this happening otherwise I think it would be stupid to let him go. Same as Arfield, good squad players we might need unless we bring in younger pacier players.

Fancy he didn't come here to be a squad player, but his age, and similarity to other players we already had made him a strange buy.
It was his work ethic that attracted SD but it was something different this squad needed.
Would have thought he'd like to prove himself here but I fancy at his age he doesn't want to be sitting around on the sidelines. Needs game time.

I appreciate he hasn't had any time at all to impress and it might seem harsh but you hope you would of seen something in him.

Surprised he didn't start at City and not given more game time over Xmas.
Maybe he isn't proving himself enough in training? I think he has also suffered from Barnes playing so well as a similar player.

I think Walters could be a real factor in us securing a top ten finish or even better.
It was always a really good signing and he/we have been unlucky with his injury.

I think the injury blighted what could have been an inspired buy for us, he has some pace a lot of skill and before injury not afraid to tackle.
The few bits he has shown since return leads me to think he could offer more if he gets game time.

The lure of a two year contract brought him to us when Stoke were only offering another twelve months
5th choice striker and offering little pace to play out wide (the oldest player on our books)
Cover for Arfield if he goes, otherwise makes good sense to move on and free up a place for more quality to the starting eleven

I like strikers to make a fast start and my heart sank when he missed that late header against WBA.
As we've developed I'm not sure where he would slot in now, especially with Nakhi getting the call recently.
I'd be asking him what he wants and agree with his decision.

I'd be surprised if we moved him on so soon after getting him in. I did think we would see more of him than we have since he has recovered from his injury, maybe this suggests that he has lost some pace. I would prefer to keep him.

You can add Tarks to that list, even though he was bought a bit before.

Walters always seemed like a signing who could of a job when we are battling for points. In reality we are 3-4 points from safety in January and there really isn't a place for him with another season in the league all but confirmed.

Whenever I've seen Stroke in recent years, Walters was the player that caught my eye. I couldn't believe our luck in securing his services in the summer, and am sure if he'd been free from injury he'd have been an overriding success. I still think he could be an important part of our immediate future. Maybe a short loan to get him completely match fit might be an option but no way would I like us to sell him.

A club can sign players, just in case, and later on realise they didn't really need them much, or at all. But unless you can see into the future, you'll never know.
We could have had more injuries and he'd have been needed - and had we not bought him, be deep in the brown stuff having to play youth players.

Worth keeping for next season on that value alone then ! We are always going to need fighters

If we had a cup run would get more time. Stayed at the end of the City match and noted he walked off whilst the rest came over to the stand for applause. As stated if he had been fit would have had more chance to impress and may do so. Ashley is playing well and Wells needs more game time.

Not sure how anyone can defend the signing of Walters to be honest. Probably the same people who defended signing Juke and Sordell till they were blue in the face. Wouldn't surprise me if he was quietly shipped out this month, like the Belgian fella Vossen.

Walters missed his chance to shine against West Brom. Unfortunately it turned out to be his only chance.

I don't think Walters has anything in common with the two players you have selected to compare him with.

Another cheap option, I still think our business was a mess. Cork and Wood aside, the others were simply cheap options to save cash and will end up costing us cash in the long run. I hope for more bravery in the market, a bit more balls from the ones responsible. Why pay £5M for Wells, I'd have rather us spent £4M of it on Tom Lawrence or a youngster with the potential to play in the PL.

I'm assuming you forgot about our current left back so I'll let you off.
Bardsley has been a very good stand in, his experience has been useful regardless of how some folk on here feel about the way he talks to Long and Lowton wasn't missed that much either.
I see your point on Wells though.

The same Tom Lawrence who went to Derby for £8 million?

7th in the league and you are still slagging the club off. Some of the players we signed have not had the chance to play either through injury or because the team are doing so well bur of course in your head they were just cheap options. How about giving them a chance to prove their worth if they get the chance to play.Whats so special about Tom Lawrence? 19 goals in 126 appearances at a lower level.Who are these youngsters with potential that would pass your stringent test.

It's not a stringent test, I'd just like us to sign young players with potential. Where's the next Ings, Austin, Rodriguez, Keane? The conveyor belt must restart, Walters' wide arse doesn't fit on the belt. It's not about being 7th in the league, I'm not slagging off the performance of the 11, or Dyche. The recruitment as a whole needs looking at IMO, Dyche has let the board off with one. I thought they backed him incredibly last season, I didn't expect us to turn a profit in the summer after survival, that's all. I just want them to give Dyche more, give him better than Wells/Walters/Bardsley/Long, lets see what he can do with it.

I'll be sad to see him go if there is anything to this. He was a standout player in a decent Stoke side for years for me..... I'd go so far to say had Stoke kept hiom (and he hd not got injured) they would not be in the mess they are now. I still think he could have a big part to play for us but as usual if SD has other ideas I have faith in the staff and board to do what is best for BFC.

Wells and Walters not had a chance through injury and in my opinion both Long and Bardsley have played well since they have come into the team.I am sure the Board have given Dyche whoever he has asked for and were available.Do you know of these better players he asked for and didn’t get because the Board blocked it.

I'm convinced some blokes on this MB could wake up in a luxury penthouse suite in a Las Vegas hotel, surrounded by a gaggle of the Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders, with the bath overflowing with champagne and a suitcase full of money, and they'd still find summat to whinge at.
