Is it time to drop Cork for Westwood?
Is it time to drop Cork for Westwood?
Cork has looked a bit off the pace of late (by his standards) IMO and Westwood does a similar job of retaining and playing the ball. AW also did well at City which was no easy game to come into. Could be time to give him a run?

I think it's cause he works so hard, he's had a weeks rest - he'll be superb tomorrow

Dropping sounds harsh, I wouldn’t mind him replacing him in squad rotation though.
I was surprised to see Cork play at City.

He'll be fine, just had a couple of off games, had a rest now.
Drop him? No way. The main driving force in midfield.

Re: Is it time to drop Cork for Westwood?
As Burnley fans we find it difficult having options, because we've never really had that luxury.
Westwood was pretty good at the end of last season and was one of the reasons for the turn around at Wembley versus Spurs.
Cork's been great though, apart from a couple of recent off days. He shouldn't have started v City, it should have been Westwood.
Cork will start if he's fit, but their are no qualms if Westwood starts.

Against the top 6 I'd play Cork and Westwood with Defour more advanced but in an either or vote it's Cork every time.

Re: Is it time to drop Cork for Westwood?
I suspect Marney isn't ready yet and he's only been on the bench when the numbers have got low. Maybe against a team like City he didn't want to leave out both Cork and Defour. But they've all had at least a week between games now which will help.Bin Ont Turf wrote:Sorry, I meant Marney.

No it isn't time. Cork has been fantastic this season and even at 90% is better than any alternative.

Never ,Cork is a class act and with Defour is our best midfield pairing in decades.
Re: Is it time to drop Cork for Westwood?
And there in lies the dilemma, Cork hasn't been firing on all cylinders, is Defour now doing to much tracking etc which is stifling his creativity ?Woodleyclaret wrote:Never ,Cork is a class act and with Defour is our best midfield pairing in decades.

A perfectly fair question. They have been superb but neither has been `on fire` in the last month or so.bfcjg wrote:And there in lies the dilemma, Cork hasn't been firing on all cylinders, is Defour now doing to much tracking etc which is stifling his creativity ?

Team hasn't played as well since Brady, Ward and Lowton got injured. Hendrick is simply playing out of position in a role that doesn't suit him.

Really can a player in his 20's be too tired to play a game of football once a week without having to have a rest and miss a game?

Jack looks to have run out of steam. He is starting to weigh in with the type of lack lustre performances he did on his first stint at the Turf.
I would bench him and give Westwood a game or four

Re: Is it time to drop Cork for Westwood?
It’s laughable when people compare their tiredness to that of an elite athlete. It’s not hard to comprehend that minor fatigue is going to have an effect on footballers who play at the very top level. Why doesn’t Anthony Joshua fight every 2 weeks?
Edit - as for dropping Cork, unless he’s deemed unfit then not a chance.

Fair enough - seems I'm in a huge minority thinking this might be a good idea! I do like Westwood though and think it's a shame we can't play him more. He reminds me of Michael Carrick.

No win in 6 yippee thanks Sean!, it’s also about realising that Brady was a bigger threat and now he’s injured something needs to change, if we’re going to play one up front and one behind the one behind needs to run everything playing balls out wide and linking up with the striker I don’t see itClaretTony wrote:Well I knew someone would turn this into a drop Hendrick thread - thank goodness Dyche sees what he gives us

Yeah OK mate, totally the same

Marginal gains and all that.. If a player is off his game by just 5% that'd have huge ramifications on the pitch.

Drop cork for Westwood? only if cork needs a rest. Agree with the people saying play Westwood and move defour into Hendricks position. Its worth a try
