Looking at how Manchester is, Bristol, Sheffield etc are ( OK they are bigger ) but how Liverpool and Everton get on; what would happen if the east of Burnley, Nelson etc followed Burnley United, and us more civilised lot in the West of the town, Padiham, Hapton etc supported Burnley.
I think there would be a little bit of trouble as per the old days when Duke bar and Accy Rd had regular fisticuffs but I dont think it would be as bad as Sheffield for example.

I'm not supporting any club with United in its name.
We'd have Colne on our side, so there would be tons of aggro.

Of course there would. Burnley isn't exactly a town known for it's intelligent population. And Stupid people tend to like hitting things, including other people.

There absolutely definately WOULD be bother. No question. We’re a one club town and STILL we smash the place when things don’t go our way. We’re burnley. We’d start a fight in an empty house!

Are there any towns in England that have two professional football teams?
I'd hate the thought of another pro team in Burnley, there can be only one.

The successful club in Padiham is Molly Rigby's. I don't think the suicide squad would ever live it down if the Mollys did them.

The 12 miles that cover Burnley, Accy and Blackburn could be a record for the closest area for three league clubs.

Bolton, Bury and Rochdale must be similar. Although Bolton moving to Horwich has moved them a bit further away.

Once you weren't allowed two clubs from the same town in the league hence the demise of Blackburn Olympic - despite winning The FA cup before Rovers their inability to join The Football League because of the one team per town rule led to them folding.

It is a myth mainly expounded in the media that Liverpool and Everton is the friendly derby. They fight in lumps in Stanley park, a lot of them really hate the other clubs fans. Don't believe the hype.
As for the Burnley part of the question.... I have been on more than one ground where there has been serious danger on Clarets turning on other Clarets before, during and after games - and on one occasion all three together; in the days when at least half our following were just there for a battle.

We are moving away from the trouble bit. If I am browsing continental cheeses in the chiller counter of Aldi resplendent in my Burnley top of Claret and blue would an oik from the East side of Burnley resplendent in his top of Blue and claret threaten and abuse me and mock my choice of Brie because I am outward looking as opposed to his choice of Burnley weavers FC (or whatever) and a Lancashire crumbly ?

There would definitely be trouble if there were two teams as it'd just make it more convenient for the empty heads to kick off. I also second what Elwa says about the Merseyside derby, I've got a couple of Evertonian mates and there's real hatred for Liverpool. I'm not sure if it's slightly one way though as I always feel Everton have got a monkey on their back given they've been in Liverpool's shadow for so long.

Hating a rival is completely different to the utter **** that fight.
I dont like Blackburn but would happily have a friendly pint with their fans if we were playing them. It's the same for city, united, liverpool etc.

I was just naming 3 grounds off top of my head that I knew were within 5 miles of one another.I was thinking Brentford is not too far from each of those 3.
If you include Brentford that goes up to about 6 or 7 miles.

Considering the percentage of canal swimming violent backwards against normal people. I'd strongly agree. That said only as much trouble as if the next town of cotton millers had two clubs.
A high percentage of the local population has come from a working class background for centuries . When working class meant barely surviving, uneducated and sending the kids to work at 4 .

Duke Bar would have taken on anybody in the old days,Especially if we met down the Circ

.When the Duke Bar riots were on we got help from the rest of Burnley.
Remeber when we used to go to the old Burnley Boys club on Colne rd in the in the late 70s as teenagers.Duke Bar lads teamed up with Stoneyholme lads to take on the Trafalgar Flats mob a right set to.I00s of wild teenagers on the rampage.Jack Bottomley was the boss at boys club then he banned loads of us fer a few months.Mad days back then
.Not sure about Liverpool and Everton being such pals as Everton lost the Chance to play in Europe after English teams got banned after what happend at the Hysel Stadium. They then stopped being friends

Yes but they are city clubs like Liverpool / Everton etc.
Wasn't the question being raised whether there were 3 town teams so close as Burnley, Accy and Blackburn?
I would think that Bury, Rochdale and Oldham stadiums might be closer, (with Ewood being almost at Darwen, and Boundary Park being at the Bury / Rochdale extremity of Oldham.)
