The whole thing is for a programme on the History Channel about Nessun Dorma, presumably how it was adopted by football in 1990 with the World Cup in Italy. Sean Ruane became well known to sports fans with Jerusalem when we won the Ashes in 2005.

Didn't he sing the same song at Turf Moor against Man City quite a number of years ago(around 2001/2002)?

To think Sean Ruane's whole career was a result of him playing Teyev in Fiddler on the Roof in a school production, found he liked it and had a voice - he had no previous inclination for this kind of singing.

As well as performing he also does a lot of work setting up choirs in workplaces - they help with stress management and team building

as for Nessun Dorma - that took Russell Watson from working men's club's to multi-millionaire status via a half-time performance at old Trafford after Martin Edwards had seen him sing at a function - so Utd fan's probably know the words better than we will

I imagine he probably has a better singing voice than the other Sean! Although if we wanted a Louis Armstrong tribute Mr Dyche would probably be the man.....

He was in my year and knew him well.
He was a Bacup lad - he didn't play or watch football at school. He might like it now - he does live in Burnley now.

I think we would get more burnley fans joining in if he sang that new Liverpool song - Salah....mane mane etc !!

don't believe so - it was the encouragement of Terry Long (teacher)for the Fagin thing. ted's had a remarkable run of finding lead roles for pupils who could truly sing for their productions at the time - even if the lads were not aware of it before hand. Though I seem to rember Sean was in a band at the time.

Shame, we could have had an encore of a piano being wheeled out and him joining Sean Ruane to belt out an 18 Garrett Gold classic.

Terry Long was a good guy. My mate was related to him, and we knew the other side of his family too.

A couple of lads from my year look to have made decent lives for themselves doing music professionally. It's not just sport Teds was good at.

I suppose it's ok but with the lack of phone reception at half time I don't think it matters which browser you use.

It would be intriguing to watch a three tenors of Garrett, Ruane and another lad (cannot remember the name)who did an amazing Gilbert and Sullivan performance (in the run I was talking about - 3 consecutive years of productions with each one as lead I believe)

Thanks for posting. I have known Sean for many years, and shared some great music experiences with him, but I have never seen this. (Quite moving in its own way).

His great in interest in opera began when he went on a St Ted's school trip to a matinee of la Boheme at the Royal Opera House, and was immediately "hooked".
He always credits legendary St Theodore's teacher Rob Howarth with being influential on his life and career by encouraging him to go on this trip.
It was always quite remarkable that we would have a St Ted's lad - James Anderson walking out onto the pitch past a fellow Ted's student Sean singing "Jerusalem" before the Ashes.

think this might be something people down for there pie and pints might regret missing, however it may also affect the clubs sales at half time

If there I would definitely not be missing it, not often one get's to see live opera in a "stadium", well for most mere mortals.
