Hi Mel. I'm sorry to hear you are not well. That's enough of that. Get yourself up and about again :-)

I don't post as often as I did. Somehow I don't seem to have the same rapport with this new lot of posters. I also dislike how so many threads degenerate into insult slinging matches.

Thank you for thinking of me. Do you remember how you 'pulled' on CM and, for a while, you were my toy boy? Long time ago.

Unfortunately it is becoming more and more difficult to moderate these posters. I wish people would report the offensive posts so they could be dealt with because there are a certain group of posters who are spoiling the board.

Thank you all for the good wishes and lovely comments.

I won't go into all the details of what happened to me but simply say always listen to your loved ones.

I was really ill and my Daughter kept telling me to go to Hospital and I always replied with the usual I will be alright.

Well in the end I did listen and got an ambulance into Hospital and thankfully just in time.

Big big big lesson learned and no more stubborness from me ever again.

If anything had happened to me it's my kids that would suffer and I never want that and to frighten them like I did this time by my own stupid stubborness.

But I am back on the road to recovery although I have been told it will take time.

Thanks again guys and the lovely spadesclaret.

And yes spades I certainly do remember the toy boy posts from way back when :)

I think you should revert to DiB. When lots of posters changed their usernames for this new site I felt I was having to get to know a whole new crowd. I still have trouble remembering who used to be what.

jd - a cup of tea and a piece of shortbread sounds perfect.

Sorry, but all reported posts are dealt with as you well know, and I explained everything to you in an email. Disappointingly, you would be amazed how few posts do get reported. Reporting posts would make things far easier, certainly far easier than re-quoting them when removed or making these unecessary snide remarks.

It's often very difficult to know which post to report. A thread starts off well but then someone posts a fairly innocuous comment to which someone else takes offence and responds a little stronger. From there it escalates with, perhaps, other posters throwing in their twopenn'orth until the theme of the original thread is completely lost.

Do we report the first 'fairly innocuous' post or the latest quite offensive post or, indeed, the whole thread? It seems a shame for a whole thread to be pulled on account of one or two silly posters with an agenda.

And the ones reporting a post could have an agenda as well.

I've asked this before, but are the reported posts just taken at face value and the post/thread removed or are they actually investigated to see the context?

I don't personally report the posts because I am afraid that the whole thread (that in many cases was a good debate/discussion) would be completely removed. I'd prefer the threads to exist and just ignore those who posted the offending posts as a safeguard against that happening.

That said, I by no means post this as criticism against the board's moderators.

For CT, could the mods not overwrite the offensive post,
"Deleted by Mods for content"?
This would then stop the escalation.

Hey spades, it is good to know that you are still flourishing. One question from me --are you still doing the crosswords? If so, what do you think of them these days?

Yes, still doing the crosswords. There has obviously been a new compiler recently. Some clues and answers are quite obscure. I have been tempted once or twice to call on your assistance but usually Mr. spades and I manage to finish them. Having said that, there are occasional days which are ridiculously easy.

I have to agree with your observations. I think that there may be two or three different compilers at work and one of them seems very obscure, even though you can get the correct answer.
I also agree that there are odd days when they seem very easy --strange isn't it?
On the whole I don't think that they are as good as they used to be, however, they keep the grey matter ticking over, which is important at our stage of life! x

Improving now.
All the best Buxton and look after yourself :)
spadesclaret wrote:Yes, still doing the crosswords. There has obviously been a new compiler recently. Some clues and answers are quite obscure. I have been tempted once or twice to call on your assistance but usually Mr. spades and I manage to finish them. Having said that, there are occasional days which are ridiculously easy.

Did you ever watch this:

If you haven't seen it you should get round to watching it (somehow) ASAP. It's very darkly comic but great fun at the same time. It's amazing!

UTC!

Good morning your majesty.....delighted to hear that all is well along the A47 .
Do you not find that the older we get then things never seem the same as they used to be ?.... usually changed for the worse.
I used to love attempting the Daily Telegraph crosswords.rarely managed to fully complete one I might add. :D

Hi The Lovely Enclosure.

Yes, the older I get the more difficult life is. I even have to have the doctor visit me instead of me visiting the doctor because I'm not always able to move easily. That brings its own problems - i.e. making sure the house is tidy before she arrives  I have my own live-in house-tidier. He's quite good at preparing meals too.

Fortunately, the old brain is still ticking over nicely so I still enjoy the cryptic crossword every day.
