Wish him well. Heard many a complementary comment about Phil during his time living in Rossendale, sounds to be a really nice genuine bloke. Hope it works out for all involved.

Wasn't he assistant to his brother at Valencia? That went well. Absolutely no experience of management at all and he ends up coaching a national side.Nothing like starting at the top. Wherever you look there's a Neville!

Just shows why SD doesnt allow players to use social media. One little slip and it can haunt you for years. He may be old fashioned in that but he is teaching our lads the right way and looking out for for them long after they leave our club

Some amusing comments on here about him dropping straight into a job with apparently little knowledge of womens football and about his lack of experience.

He knows about football, I'm sure the womens version isn't much different to the mens, and where does he need to start to get the experience to satisfy people on here?
From what I've seen Sampson had only been manager at 2 other places, one womens team (which from reports was a tad controversial) and a league of Wales team....
As a footballer he was only an amateur.

Why is it such an issue if Neville is 'clean' considering the mess that occurred under the old boss?
Won't the women respect him due to his lack of managerial experience or do you think they'll give him a chance due to his playing career?

It's an obviously tongue in cheek reply to his sister. Because he wrote "men" and yet in every profession they want to be de-sexed,actors not actresses, firefighters not firemen etc.,
Good luck to him in the job. He's been lucky enough to take over a really good squad.

The world's gone soft, everybody looking to take offence at any given opportunity. It's quite clearly a joke, in fact the better jokes are often jokes you shouldn't laugh at. Jimmy Carr is hilarious, he stands on stage joking about paedophilia. Does that make him a paedo? or mean he's a paedo sympathiser? Absolutely not, people are just so weird. Frankie Boyle's another great stand up comic, his gay jokes are great. Does he suddenly hate all gay people? Are his fans all homophobic?

It's almost like some people are pushing for law to be changed and everybody to live life by a script on what to say. Weird snowflakes

Not really getting why there is so much dislike of Phil Neville on here. Not a fan of his whilst a player, but generally comes across really well as a pundit and is almost always complimentary about Burnley and Dyche.
Married long-term to a local girl, has a disabled daughter,and doesn't seem to be hiding any dark secrets. The tweets, though perhaps il-ladvised in the silly world we live in are so obviously tongue in cheek that they won't be investigated.

Regarding the remarks attributed to Phil Neville. Why can't these so called objectors grow up and smile instead of being all doom and gloom. What a sad life they must have. No one has died or been killed and there are worse things that happen than a few remarks said tongue in cheek.

I like Phil Neville; he's a top bloke.

And he's giving the womens' game a huge amount of credibility. But it's a risky move in some ways. It's an entirely different game; and I heard an interview with a player yesterday saying the appointment was wrong, because the womens' team is so good it doesn't need coaching, it just needs managing! She went on to say there should be a female coach who knows the game and, 'the issues around 'time of the month' and emotions'.

Women's football is so far behind the professional game we watch, and Neville knows about, and he has a gigantic learning curve. If he fails, it's back to punditry, if he succeeds he won't get a lot of credit.

Good on him, it's not only what happened to Sampson that means most ex footballers wouldn't touch this job with a bargepole.

I hope he does well.

They've just had someone on 5live and I'm not sure she knew why she was objecting to the appointment of Neville.

Accepts he's got plenty of playing experience, has worked for a top manager /mentor and has experience of winning as a player.

I think she's just complained for the sake of it, because out of the 6 shortlisted either 5 or all 6 backed out.
2/3 changed their minds when the FA said they needed to do a comprehensive background check

I'm not sure who they thought they'd attract to do the job.
I also wonder if she had the same complaints when Hope Powell took the job with no experience....

The selection process is pure comedy with most f em dropping out !
Ultimately PN has mega best of the best player experience schooled under Moyes after Fergie , also involved when Giggs briefly took the reins .That said women’s football is an unbelievable steaming pile with no fans and a horrible spectacle .Its been propped up by the FA and would collapse in an hour if they pulled funding.

The way the bbc report women’s football ( on a virtual equal footing) you’d think anyone bar a chip on shoulder

Sort of grew up with the Nevilles through football and cricket. He spent the best part of his final years at high school playing representative sport so not the best education. Most of this was probably spent in a male dominated environment with lads far his senior.

He was definitely the little kid amongst everyone, his twin sister was more like Gary and had him in his place.

His tweets sound like banter / private joke. Phil's crime is his own social media naivety. There's always someone out there these days who store these tweets up to keep the daily mail and talksport going.

I've met his wife, my father-in-law is a mate of her dads. He went to the wedding. Trust me, he wouldn't get away with battering her. This is just what it is, a joke, nothing more. People should stop being so damn precious about off-the-cuff comments made in jest. Political correctness is going to have us all having to apply for a licence to speak before long.

Fully aware of the connection, and I've nothing against Phil Neville and I knew it was in jest... I'm just highlighting the double standards and incompetence of the FA. Fully agree with you on Political Correctness, it was interesting to hear Baroness Campbell state that they spoke to 147 possible Candidates in 30 Countries regarding the job but many didn't want to know, " Due to the spotlight that would inevitably fall on them, but more importantly, their families "...
