Gary Rowett has done an amazing job in the last few seasons and shipping out the Pride Park deadwood (most of whom are on big money in that league) while challenging for automatic promotion is another example of what he is capable of

Something the Birmingham owners weren't aware of presumably when they replaced him with Zola - the barmiest decision of last season.

He made a total of 136 appearances for us and scored four goals, two of those coming against Blackburn Rovers at Ewood Park.
Were the other two he scored for us, scored 2years ago today?

If ever an ex-player went back to an old club and had a nightmare, this was it.

My first ever match report for Up the Clarets - entitled Ram-Shackelled

That report highlight's the half season wonder that is Paul Clement, he quickly get's found out after that - can't see him ever getting a chance in England again after the time at Derby and Swansea - his ego though makes him perfect for Rangers up there in Glasgow - him and Brendan could have a wonderful time

Good player for us, wasn't he. Not upset to see him drift down the league though.

Re. Rowett, I agree 100%. He seems very Dyche-like.

Ah yes another player from that promotion season who now gets stick because he left.

He was fantastic for us.

Right player, right time for us.

Exactly what we needed, leader and good defender.

Did what plenty would do and followed the money.

I don't think it's because he left, it's the way he left, the fact that he downed tools in pre-season. He was a damn good player for us, but unpopular in the dressing room.

What is amazing is how you can watch him combust in slow motion as the transition from early success to abject failure occurs - happened both times and he does not seem to have a clue as to why.

Two goals against that lot and the captain in our unexpected promotion. He should be a club legend and could have been if he'd stayed.

For what we reportedly paid for him, it was a snip compared to his contributions to the recent success of the club.

Excellent defender. Good captain. We got the best and most matches of his career.

He didn’t even have to stay, he could have left in the correct manner and all would have been well.

So the issue is he downed tools in preseason?

No drama really considering the number who downed tools in the middle of a season when Coyle left and Howe had to clear them out.

People dont really know.

Dyche says he likes good characters and a great dressing room but certain posters have since said Shackell and Ings won't.

A club legend regardless of what some on here say, he was incredible under Dyche. You can see why Howe wanted him, I still think Howe would've done better defensively had he not been forced to play Shackell while he was injured.

Great defender for us...but he found out the grass wasn't greener on the other side. Good luck with his loan to Millwall, hope he can resurrect his career.

I wonder sometimes, if players who leave for the same reasons as JS seemingly did, have any regrets after seeing us continue our upward trend and reclaim / retain a place at the top table while they flounder about.

I would. But then I'm not driven by the £.

Always wonder why someone like Dyche who is big on the “the group” would have someone who was unpopular in the dressing room as captain.

Doesn’t really stack does it.

Strange how these stories come out about players when they leave to try and better themselves, either in level of football or financially.

Perhaps he was unpopular because he was captain - it's very difficult to be a boss/ in charge and be popular
and best mates with your charges.

The Dyches of this world are few and far between.

Left us for a "bigger" club.who can forget him and Keoghs memborable performance on the night of the ogs
Jason can still have his time in the lower leagues just not earning the big money he got at Derby

I couldn't give flying fcuk what he may have done/ not done; the look on his face when the ball was sitting in the back of the turds net is all I care to remember him by.

Another who went from Hero to Zero quite quickly.

For me, his goal at Deadwood keeps him in the Hero camp... just.

So many players "follow the money" but life isn't all about money !

He was a commanding defender who did well for, albeit his lack of paced and technical ability was found out at times in the premier league. He is though one of those examples, and there are a few, where seemingly irreplaceable players have been replaced by even better players.

He ultimately let himself down by being a greedy bugger but I will prefer to remember him for his leadership on he pitch and marksmanship against the horsemen of the apocalypse.
