As I posted on the other thread why should the ban be any longer than say Dele Alli's foul on Kevin De Bruyne.

Seems trying to break a leg is just part of the game perhaps!

My favourite spit was the one that landed on Ted McMinn at Wembley. Absolutely disgusting but Ted milked it and the red card helped us win the play off final. Phlemtastic.

It might be disgusting, but to my mind it’s no worse than throwing a punch or a kick at an opponent. A three match ban is appropriate.

He played for Derby against us in the FA Cup in 1992 and gave Ian Measham the runaround. Steve Davis was interviewed after the game and asked about McMinn's performance. Davis said that he was a cheat. I bet he didn't think he'd be a team mate two years later.

On the subject of spitting at an opponent. It's a bad as it gets for me and the long bans are appropriate.

Before the no mans land in the Longside was created and it was just railings anyone who was daft enough to stand next to it finished the match looking as though they had just had a sleepover in a slug farm whilst smeared in essence of lettuce.

‘Fraid not, sir. This has been my stance on this whenever this subject comes up on this forum, and the last.
If I was to be Given Hobson’s Choice between being spat at or punched, I’d pick spit every time.

I’ve had both, several times, and I’d take a punch every time over being spat at.

Spitting is truly disgusting and if you consider the consequences of possibly spreading hepatitis and all manor of nasty diseases it`s far worse than any foul. At least kicking someone up in the air is all part and parcel of the game.

I wonder if Alf Inge Håland would have preferred Roy Keane to have gobbed at him rather than deliberately going out to end his career?

Spitting is disgusting behaviour but one punch can kill. A guy died last year in my area on a night out and from one stupid drunken punch, he fell and hit his head on the kerb.

I have to disagree.

That’s fair enough and I understand your reasoning but I’d still prefer to be punched than spat at. All about opinions and I’m not saying that yours is wrong. Out of interest, have you ever had somebody spit in your face?

Crazing how some think spitting is worse than the foul committed by Ben Thatcher.

Still, some think elbowing people in the face and sending them to hospital is part and parcel of the game!

You've made your point but it has nothing to do with the topic. In this country spitting is the ultimate offence in the unwritten law of football.

If someone either hit me or kicked me, I could walk away from it and not react. However
if someone spit in my face I would not hold back and I would (and have) lash out, without a
moments hesitation.

I think it's the most disgusting habit and has no place in society, let alone on the sports field.

Anybody caught on camera or VAR spitting or nose blowing on to the pitch should also be booked,as said earlier you could catch certain diseases after sliding tackles, if your face or hands came in contact with this morbid matter, disgusting habit..

Play a contact sport and it is not unreasonable to expect that, at some stage, you will pick up injuries which will vary in degree from slight sprains right through to broken bones, it is all part of the game, however, spitting at an opponent has no place in the game at all and should be treated as an assault.

Ashingtonclaret46, I presume you and others think leaving a player unconscious like Ben Thatcher did with Pedro Mendes is part and parcel of the game?

Some sad people on this thread who think deliberately trying to injure other players is part and parcel of football.

I never mentioned anyone deliberately trying to injure other players because, unfortunately, this does happen in all contact sports and should be dealt with by those in charge. Spitting at someone is a deliberate act and is no more part and parcel of football than trying to deliberately injure someone, as such it should be dealt with most severely by those in charge.
Most players will recover from injury, however, this may not always be the case when someone spits --there is no way of knowing what they may have wrong with them and may well have transmitted to their opponent.

There wouldn't be anyone left on the pitch, including the officials. That fellow in charge at Blackburn spends the whole game spitting so where does that leave him?

100% agree with that, it's the lowest of the low and the bans should be even longer.

On a positive note, it was good to hear David Moyes come straight out and condemn his actions.

Good!
Although it may seem harsh compared to the tackle which got a booking at Cardiff yesterday there is no place in sport for spitting and if a 6 match ban is the punishment needed to help eradicate it from the game then all well and good. If it doesn't, then make it 12!

6 match ban is mandatory minimum I believe, think they should move it to 10 as a minimum for this disgusting behavior, back tackle mistimed is min 3 match ban which shows IMO that spitting is viewed as worse than bad fouls and quite rightly so.

I like DM attitude on this and home his club give him a hefty fine and dock his wages for the 6 games, am sure some of his teammates must also be disgusted in him.

I can see people being spit at just reacting out of pure instinct and sometimes think they must have a lot of restraint in there make up, obviously they would suffer to so I guess refraining from retaliation is the ultimate was to pay him back.
