Does anyone else remember those dodgy burger stands you used to see being pushed around town at the football and outside the cats. The guy always was wearing a grubby white (ish) long coat. Think they were westlers burger's. Remember Newcastle fans turning one over and squirting the sauce on the guy on belvedere road once.

I remember them. If they were hygenic I'm a bstards fan. My mate lived next door to a bloke who kept two in his back yard.

Always wondered where these blokes go for a squirt when they're working..... same with those on street corners in New York.

More importantly, where do they wash their hands if they have a squirt?

The smell of them made me want to vomit.

I think it's my exposure to and use of those burger stands ( and the old BHE toilets)
that's hopefully given me immunity to various ills.

And the sellers usually had mucky hands.

Yeah hygiene was appalling no wonder they are now gone. Once made the mistake of getting onions .... boiled not fried and could barely pick it up bread was so soggy. Going back to the newcastle game when all the trouble was at they put burgers on his head and applied sauce to it as well. It was carnage that day.

Westlers if I remember correctly.
You knew you'd had a proper skin full when you were tempted by them at 2am.

Ness's burgers on the way home from the Imp, that brings back a few memories.
Ness's real name was Ernest Kanalas and he used to keep his burger stand in a garage on Carr Road when not in use. I used to play in the same football team as Ernest in the late 60's and he was the leading scorer as we won the Nelson & Colne 4th division with C.E.G. (Crabtrees Engineering).

Westlers burgers didn't even taste like meat. Some sort of compressed mush that even Fray Bentos would have been embarrassed abiut

Many years ago I used to work in the Culvert filling station and on match days there was a burger trolley over the road near the Cats whiskers. On match day, the guy used to rock up early and put burgers and buns in the waste bin and waltz off. He would then come back several hours later with his trolley, retrieve the goods and sell them. I didnt get it at first, but he was selling his own gear first and then his bosses gear when he had sold out his own. Happy days!

I used to have one after a belly full of ale in the Cats Wiskers and blamed them on the hangover on Sunday.
Then I saw a few of the stands stored in a back dirty yard, behind a couple of filthy rotten wood gates on Oxfotd road. Never had one since.

Those burgers together with the 'beer' in the Cat's was a guaranteed cure for constipation.

Proper man food... Used to sell and eat em myself as a 15 year old on wardour st.fresh finger rolls tinned sausage tomato sauce.and onions boiling away. Hygiene we had cloths and water inside the stand.

I once saw the compound where Westminster Council stored the metal trolleys when they'd be seized from traders who had no licence (most of them) complete with vats of coagulated sausage fat and sweaty onions. Smelt like a nightmare in a BO clinic. Anyway, the trolleys would be pressure washed and then sold for scrap. The scrapper then sold them back to the illegal street traders. Proper racket.

Well to be fair if seized by the council and not emptied of the perishable produce in the compound that was their problem. Didn't use fat. Yes being unlicensed kept you on your toes

We used to be on our way in to Angels/Cats and state categorically that there is no way we could buy anything of the Manky Burger stalls, come two o clock and "I'll have a burger and a hot dog please, yes onions on both"
