Re: 10mill bid for Worrall
As insane as £20million clearly is in this market. I wonder what kind of figures we will be quoted once the new TV rights are announced with the inflated revenues going to PL clubs. I do wonder if we might be better off taking what we think is a bit of a financial shoeing now compared to the carnage that will follow. I'm not one of the "Oh just pay it" brigade by the the way.
The transfer window before new new deal is in the public domain will be very lively I'm guessing. Not that I know when the new deal is announced.

You said 5pm announcement after medical at Gawthorpe.
No medicals done at Gawthorpe and now you are saying 7pm

Re: 10mill bid for Worrall
I'm on this line of thinking myself. 20m "for a 4th choice CB" may well be 20m for a 1st choice CB if Tarks leaves for 50m in the summer. Which would look like good planning ahead.Rumbletonk wrote:As insane as £20million clearly is in this market. Re: 10mill bid for Worrall
I don’t know why we even bother to have anything to do with Notts Forest after the way they’ve messed us about in the past. This kid looks like a big lug anyway. Forget it. It looks as if we might sign Holding on loan instead. Tha’ll do nicely

Good decision not to waste £20 million and to break our transfer record on an untried kid plying his trade for a gash second division team.

Re: 10mill bid for Worrall
A mistake that seems to occur a lot on this thread is that this is not the Burnley of some four or five years ago. We are a different financial animal now, and although still miles behind the big boys we now have far more financial muscle than even four seasons ago.
As I posted on the Magic Money Tree thread we made an Operating Profit of over £30m two years ago, which will be followed by a similar figure for last season and potentially £60m for the current season. That's £120m profit not Income.
It most certainly does not sit easily with supporters when these kind of figures are reported and there is still an apparent reluctance to increase both our bids for players and the wages that would follow. There's still this perceived view amongst some that we aren't engaging fully with the Premier League and that our stay is only a temporary one.

Roy do you still believe we pursue a policy of not committing to a deal unless we have the total funds (transfer fee and wages) in the bank?

Re: 10mill bid for Worrall
Would have liked this to come off at the right price. Burnley have done right to say no to the inflated asking price however.
We still need another cb though, domino effect if we gain one injury to a cb....Taylor loves across if ward is fit he goes back to left back if not Beardsley at left back....etc etc etc

Re: 10mill bid for Worrall
This, nobody is denying how well we have done but to have the most money we have ever had and to have Kevin Long as our only cover is baffling. We are in danger of getting too complacement just because we have points on the board. We are a couple of signings away from having a real top 10 team. No reason whatsoever why we should not try and capitilise and push on.Royboyclaret wrote:A mistake that seems to occur a lot on this thread is that this is not the Burnley of some four or five years ago. Re: 10mill bid for Worrall
Maybe we could have got him for £10m last week and now they know we could have a crisis at cb they want £20m. If true BFC are to blame for acting like we are where we were 3 year's ago.
£20m is too much and I wouldn't pay it as it is blackmail. So let's hope we have a loan signing lined up.
I am provisionally disgusted at BFC's potential negligence. If we take this risk and go with 2 fit cbs at this time - we actually deserve to be punished. I hope we arn't, but maybe it will take something drastic to get through to whoever it needs to. Presumably the same person or people from Marneygate.

On Radio Blackburn they are saying it was a bid not a loan for Holding - but Arse wanted £15m

It was Nixon on Radio Blackburn. He was pretty sure that we could have signed Holding for £15m. It's not that much these days is it?

Nixon has just said we have more money than we know what to do with - I suspect not - but do believe we are worried about overpaying and set a trend of expectation from selling clubs in the future

Re: 10mill bid for Worrall
Tarky out and Long and Westwood in. Our 1 remaining defender Lowton is on the bench. We are really pushing our luck. The more telling fact though is that we only have 2 defenders injured.

KRBFC... grow up will you.. what a pest you are.
£20m for an unproven defender from a club that routinely mess us around.... please no no no...I really hope we are not going down this ££££ route...I hope we remain financially cautious amidst all this nonsense - that policy has served us well for a long time.
Michael Keane - the usual guff on here about players who have left us.. as soon as good footballers leave us, a bunch of posters on here want them back!
Keane managed his exit sensibly and respectfully BUT he wanted to leave.
a) are Everton trying to get rid?
b) any indication that Keane is keen to come back.. I don't think so.
An awful lot of annoying uninformed rubbish on here today..roll on 11.00pm.
