depends what time you are arriving, but a decent spot is the car park at premier inn near Northumbria Uni.

Free of charge after 5pm and open till midnight.

In that case.

Possibly the NCP car park near the Primark on the Main Street. Will be quite expensive but close to the stadium and probably your best option if cutting close to kick off

I am driving up, if you look on the various away day websites they name quite a few carparks within walking distance. I can't set off until 4pm hopefully get there in time.

Other option is to park somewhere on the metro line and get off at St James, but id leave plenty of time and check it isnt closed etc. The gate used to have plenty of spoons type places. There is also a cheap Formica table style chinese on the edge of china town which sells huge plates of pork chow mein for under a fiver. Lovely stuff

My preferred city centre car park is St James' Park but that'll be closed on match day. City centre car parks are mostly free after 5pm but might be full for that reason. If you want to chance it try the Eldon Garden Car Park (check on Google maps). There's also a spiral car park directly opposite that one. Both those are free and only a two minute drive from the pay for one another posted suggested. Means you'll definitely find somewhere within easy walking distance and you might still get it free of charge.

Agh, sorry. Hadn't realised that. There's a Grosvenor Casino near lane 7 and the college which advertise parking and a pint for a fiver. It's really handy for getting in/out as you'll come over the redheugh bridge and it's on your left almost immediately. No idea if it'll be full mind.

Avoid "the one near Primark".
It is close to John Dobson street which is a glorified 2-way bus lane with record revenue from motorists' fines.
Multi-storey on Dean street is an alternative which is also near the Crown Posada real ale pub.

That one on Dean St is a free one but almost all members/gold permit holders bays. I've tried it several times and only ever parked successfully once or twice and they weren't match days.

Also, I've no idea how so many people get caught out by that busses only area. It's signed correctly and there's very little excuse other than 'they only recently changed it'.

I parked just over the bridge last time. Plenty of free street parking near some trendy looking flats. Only had to walk for about 10-15 mins I think. Uphill there but downhill back.
