Team for City...

Have we got any news on players returning? Wood? Tarks? Ward?
Will Lennon get a start or will we be more defensive?
We will definitely need Lowton and Tarkowski back to stand any real chance in my opinion, plus Wood if possible.
Fingers crossed :!:

It'll be same team but with Tarkowski/Ward in if fit. If he doesn't want to play N'Koudou or Lennon against Newcastle he won't against City!

Ward shouldn't be a certain shoe in when fit, Taylor has done far better than Bardsley has since getting his chance, so it would be extreamly unfair to instantly drop him... IMO

Taylor has been excellent in the last two games.

He might just surprise us. Might figure it's a free hit for us and we've nowt to lose.

We certainly bucked up when Lennon came on last night.
Would love to see him start.

Not sure who for, though.

Pope
Bardsley Tarkowski Mee Taylor
Lowton Anderson Long Ward

Barnes

We'll nick it 1-0 with our only chance after conceding 94% of the possession to City.

Well it`s obvious to every man and his dog, isn`t it!!!??? Simply replicate what Liverpool did to `em at Anfield and Bob`s your uncle!!!!

So...

Karius
Gomez Matip Lovren Robertson
Oxlade-Chamberlain Can Wijnaldum
Salah Firmino Mane

morphs into...

Pope
Lowton (HAS TO BE!!!) Long Mee Taylor
Gudmundsson Cork Westwood
Lennon Barnes Nkoudou

and...

3-2 to Burnley!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

p.s. actually like the look of that team a lot!!!! Get Tarkowski and Defour back into it (for Long & Westwood) and it could be one hell of a team!!!!!

Wouldn`t mind that against a weaker team but against City need a solid bank of 6 (Gudmundsson has a little license to roam) and at the moment especially, Hendrick just does not offer anywhere near enough physicality or dare I suggest defensive nous.

It certainly does matter although we likely won't get any points a good performance and making City work for everything,is definitely better than getting tonked 4/5-0.We have winnable games after Saturday so any confidence building is important. Lowton needs to start for Bards possibly Lennon just to give us an outlet and keep City's defender honest Barnes troubles City so would start him.

Pope
Lowton Long Mee Taylor
Gud Cork Hendrick Westwood Lennon
Barnes

Sam and NK are options from the bench if we are chasing a goal late on,if somehow we have a lead to protect Arfield can do a defensive role in the last 15/20 minutes.

After the game on Wednesday SD talked about connections and his current team hardly playing together. So IMO he will give Wednesdays team another chance. A bit boring but that’s what we are TBH. That’s not a criticism BTW it’s just how we operate.

If we were to try '4-3-3' similar to the Liverpool victory lineup then I would go for:

Pope
Lowton Long Mee Taylor
Westwood Cork Hendrick
JBG......................Lennon
.............Barnes

Re: Team for City...

by JTClaret
Pope
Lowton Tarkowski Mee Taylor
Westwood Cork
JBG Barnes Lennon
Vokes

I think Vokes is a bigger goal threat and Barnes gives the nuisance factor.
Hendrick just isn't offering enough for that position at the moment.

Pretty much everyone has gone Lowton. Barsdley was decent at first but Lowton needs to be back in now.

Lennon needs to start and would prefer hendrick with Cork. I dont mind Westwood coming in to play with Defour but him and Cork looked clueless together Wednesday

Wednesday was Westwood's first league action of the season. He deserves some slack. He's entitled to a game to get back into the swing of things.

He and Cork didn't look clueless at City in the cup, incidentally. In fact the trio of him, Cork and Hendrick did very well in that game, against a strong City team.

Lowton and Lennon to start would be a given if Defour n Tarks we’re fit.Bit I feel he’l opt for the honest tool of Scotty rather play Lennon on the left.

They did okay, we got beat 4-1. City are a great side but lets not pretend we went there and dominated midfield or something. They all worked hard

--------------------Pope--------------------
Lowton -- Tarks/Long - Mee - Taylor--
---- Westwood - Cork - Hendrick-------
-Lennon--------------------------JBG-----
------------------Barnes-------------------

Hendrick only gets in because we have no other CM (Ulvestad can't be seen as an option).
Vokes/Scotty give options from the bench with NKoudou and Wells too.

We've to realistically hope we can nick one, get lucky, defend, and hold on.

I've had some doubts about Taylor, but, in fairness, he did come in with no Premier League experience. He's done really well recently. He was as good as anyone at Palace and had a very good second half at Newcastle.

Absolutely, done really well and Wardy will have a real battle on his hands to get his place back.

I can see Charlie being a real success, just hope it's with us. Financially, we've already
gained with his acquisition, another bonus. And he's still young and learning.

I think, possibly, some of my concerns are due to how highly I rate Stephen Ward, but he's a very experienced Premier League full back now and we shouldn't expect Taylor to be at the same level.

SD will never see anything as a free hit and will approach the game as he always does, setting the team up in a rigid framework and hoping not to concede. It is a real dilemma for us fans who always see things differently.

Were it me, I would send out a team to attack them from the outset and damn the consequences

Pope
Lowton, Tarky (Long) Mee, Taylor
JBG, Cork, Hendrick, Westwood, Lennon
Vokes.

Tarkowski is out injured. Amazed you haven't included Barnes given past performances against City.

Just seen this...
http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/42926489

+ the ref who gave us 7 x yellows last time v Citeh.
I'd be happy to end the game with any 11 on the pitch.

We are seriously short of good options if we get any reds.
Bardsley is too slow and is a red card in waiting. Barnes will get one soon / or 2 yellows.
Both CBs will be likely carded.

I'd like Lennon & Lowton start

Didn't know the latest with Tarks hence (Long).

Barnes has been nothing short of brilliant and it was a hard choice but Sam with good service may get his head on one or two.

I'm sure SD will stick with Barnes anyway :D

I think we all know it`s going to be...

Pope
Bardsley Long Mee Taylor
Gudmundsson Cork Westwood Arfield
Hendrick
Barnes

I for one will be hugely disappointed. There`s zero pressure on the City back 4 barring Barnes` physicality.

I think an acceptable middle ground would be...

Pope
Lowton Long Mee Taylor
Lennon Cork Westwood Arfield
Gudmundsson
Barnes

Our best player today could be the groundsman . He needs to leave the grass 2 inches ( 5cm for the youngens ) long to stop them playing their fast flowing football .

Pace. Pace. Pace.

City will have all the ball. We need to defend narrow. Pack it. And have a pacy outlet to hit them on the break. Like G-KN’K and Lennon. I’d also have Lowton as he is faster then Bardsley. And I’d be tempted to put Hendrick in CM (although I think Westwood is a very very good player and very unlucky not to be a starter). But it will be Pope Bardsley Taylor Mee Long Westwood Cork Arfield JBG Hendrick Barnes.
