I loved his first book and couldn't put it down.

I can't get into this one, I was looking forward to his tales of the big games I went to and it's poor so far. Too much about himself and not Burnley games.

I've had it over a month and got about a quarter through, can only read a couple of pages at a time. Just doesn't grip you.

Who is Dave Burnley? Seen him mentioned on here quite often but still have no idea who he is.....

A fan who hasnt missed a game in something like 100 years. Cant fault the guy for his commitment to the claret cause and is there whether we win or lose. Met him many times on away grounds but have to say I find him arrogant and up his own bottom a bit.

It must be said as well that hes from Madeley not far from Stoke and last I heard doesnt drive so his relentless attendance is even more admirable.But I would agree that he is a touch eccentric...

He's a Rovers fan.

Saw him ambling down Harry Potts Way on Saturday. Have come across him many times over the past 40 years. Always gives the impression that he has to be somewhere else. Not really my cup of tea

Saw him in Newcastle last week. TBF he's absolutely dedicated even beyond the norm and changed his name (obviously!) donkeys years ago to show his commitment to the cause. My mate always winds him up by calling him by his original surname which annoys him. To be as dedicated as Dave you have to be more than slightly potty, but he's sound tbh and he's never really had any meaningful long term employment as far as I'm aware, just so that he can be travelling the length and breadth of the country (and Europe for friendlies) any day of the week on a shoestring budget watching the Clarets. And yes, he travels from the Stoke area so even home games are a bit of a trek. I'm pretty sure that way back Adrian Heath had a spell of giving him a lift up to Burnley for games.
Re the latest book, I haven't read either, but I have heard the first one is far better.

wasn't it Dave who dressed himself up as an undertaker and was the last person off the longside against Hull ?

He is a unique chap and totally devoted to the Clarets. Seems alright in my book....and his!

The Bear as his coat was known was burnt a while ago. The story is on the back cover of the book .2012 it was burnt apparently.

If anybody reads Dave's book expecting him to recount every game he's been to, then this book is not for you.
His first book was quite brilliant as it took you through a ride of emotions of a young man obsessed with following his club when most would think his time would have been better spent studying and building a career.

This is a powerful human story and whilst I'm not a big reader I was compelled not to put the book down.

I've just started the 2nd book and I haven't so far been as gripped.. But it's early days.

He's a good guy, I have had beers with him before many away games,
Get to know him and you would probably agree.
Totally committed, even called his daughter Clarette,

Once sat behind Dave at an away match a good few years ago now, and he had a young lass with him whom i assumed was his daughter and she had Clarette Anne on the back of her Burnley shirt, the "blue" was missing though. Always seemed a good lad to me.

Isn't his daughter's full name Clarette Anne Baloo Burnley ?

No ...and Yes he probably joked with his girlfriend about his child's name... She said she didn't want her daughter named after a "Disney character". But she is Clarette Burnley and she's done her parents proud.

New book just arrived, Iooking forward to getting into it, glad he finally overcame the publisher/editing tribulations that would have caused many people to give up on it. Ralphie's life has revolved around the Clarets, and the first book - in which yours truely crops up certainly gave a great and entertaining insight into his way of life. He's not everyone's cup of tea, but I have known him since 1976 and travelled to many matches home and away with him and shared some adventures that I will never forget, and I will always be able to call him a real pal. Oh, and I have worn "The Bear".

Having known him for over 30 years and in response to some of the negative comments about Dave Burnley, I would say he not in the slightest bit arrogant. As for the suggestion that there are a lot of chapters in the 2nd book about himself... that could be something do with it being an AUTOBIOGRAPHY !!

Best bit is where he describes a 69 he has with that French bird.

In fact he is a legend amongst Burnley fans of a certain era.

I knew him from the 1970s onwards when I started following Burnley - 'how you doing hound' he would say when greeting you.

In those days he was a likeable fellow that we looked forward to meeting. He stayed round my gaff on one occasion and insisted on checking out all the local pubs, many of which I'd never visited. He used to take notes on the décor, the beer and general ambiance. Does he still do that?

I enjoyed his first book because it covered exactly the time I was going although I found the style of writing a touch pompous at times (I presume this was because he'd been on a writing course in order to do the book). I'm even mentioned in it although the way he describes the incident is a bit different then my memory of it, but it makes a good story.

Are you thinking of Rocky - a completely different character!

In terms of employment I was driving out of Manchester on Rochdale Rd and got stopped for a survey, it was Dave Burnley. It was early 2000s. Explained I was a claret and as I was driving off he shouted "keep the faith".

The second book is wrote in a somehow different style to the first one and to be honest I prefer the first book .

Have your views but he was always there through the dark days of the 80's.

I’ve been a friend of Dave’s since Charlton away 1978 so I am biased but the book is worth getting. It is autobiographical and features a lot of fans including some who died during the period of this book. A very different insight into Burnley through Dave’s life.

Anyone else seeking recognition need only pick up a pen.

Dave has followed the Clarets with an obsession bordering on insanity.

Was that at the Valley? Match when Selwyn was kicked by some little scrotes, eventually turned round to let rip at them and that started a mass brawl? All on match of the day later! (Or the Big Match!)

Could have been some Millwall fans were in our end! Very young teenagers one pulled a very small penknife on me whilst I was leant on a barrier then panicked and legged it
