I think that is the general concensus amongst the social media generation.

There are lots of people, teachers included that don't seem to bother with spelling and that carries over to places outside social media.

Some of the emails I used to get from graduates were really poor.

Language evolves but there appears to be a rapid decline in the willingness to learn how to spell.

Quite often I have to read some posts on here several times because I simply don't understand the context.

I left school without any qualifications whatsoever but am proud that we learnt to spell as part of our edjewkashun.

One of mine is the use of disinterested, when they plainly mean uninterested. Everyone has their language kryptonite.

A professional writer would never favour bold over italics for emphasis or use exclamation marks with such reckless abandon.

I find the older I get the far more precious I get about correct use of English, so hopefully standards are not falling as badly it would seem. At least that is my hope because our language is used around the world for far more reason than we had an empire.

"I seen" a phrase used most frequently by footballers and pundits.

It's " I saw" or "I've seen"

Grrr

Listen to Scottish or North-Eastern football pundits/commentators. I don`t think they were taught the present perfect tense up there. "He has did that 3 or 4 times now." They`re all at it!!!!

"There isn`t any good full-backs in the modern game." I honestly think aren`t has vanished from the language. It makes me cringe!!!

I'm with the OP, however the ODO gives both as valid, although all of the example sentences use 'paid' as opposed to 'payed'.

Lady G was writing a poem about Donald Trump, yesterday. She's eight, and her spelling is reasonable for her age. She used the vernacular "wanna' a couple of times, instead of the more formal "want to". I was fine with this, once I'd corrected her spelling of it. She had committed the school-girl error of only using a single 'N'. Even informal words have proper spellings.
