I always thought Burnley has so much more to offer than Halifax, just because of the landscape. For whatever its heritage, Halifax still looks like it's in hell. Burnley's landscape is fantastic and its finest asset, notwithstanding having a Pl club.

Halifax has far superior transport links and hence always more likely to thrive in the post industrial era

i would be fascinated to see the uniformity in which the dozens of tins of baked beans would be ordered in pstottos cupboard.

yes and i see no thriving in halifax.

halifax has retained more of it's victorian architecture and sits nicely into a beautiful valley but i suppose it's the folk who make a town.

if so then burnley has weathered the storm with slightly more vigor.

It's no quicker to get from Halifax to Leeds than from Burnley to Preston (from Manchester Road, not the bone rattlers that come from Colne)

Although there is a London service from Bradford these days but it goes round the houses a bit before it joins the main line.

I think its called Grand Central and it goes to London - it takes about 3 hours. Apparently it flies from London to Doncaster or some such then takes about 2 hours to get from there to Halifax.

Railway lines up north are a right mess.

My lasting thoughts of Halifax after a visit last year was a crazy road system and how manky the place looked. Maybe they've cleaned it up since but I thought it was rough.... and I live in Accy.

Yes Grand central direct to London. But mainly:

Every 15 min to Leeds.

Much closer to Leeds than Burnley is to Mcr.

But also I agree that Halifax looks shabby... The article is referring to a scene involving about 100 people at the most. I think ‘shoreditch of the north’ is stretching it somewhat.

ECML has 1 direct train to London every day. It’s still inferior to Burnley as a place to live.

There is a bit of a renaissance up north. And with links to Manchester (and Leeds) will only help Burnley. But You are right. The train network is a joke up here.

Took me well over an hour from Leeds to Sheffield!!! The towns, villages and cities are improving no end. But the train network is nothing short of a disgrace.

They have just spent 1bn in getting rid of the rattlers but we are still too far behind on public transport.

I do think with the prices in London (and the south) means its inevitable the north will 'rise'. Look at media city and others relocating to other industrial wastelands like Salford.

But Halifax is what it is. It isnt a Northern Shoreditch. Its a rejuvenating Northern shithole. In a good way I may add.

But Halifax is probably like Burnley, too insular to thrive. But lots of potential.

Is Halifax full of men with tight jeans and beards? Like looking at the hipsters in Shoreditch but hard to imagine Halifax having many and I certainly know that property prices are no where near Shoreditch.

Went to Halifax as a teenager and spent many an all nighter dancing in a club called the Plebs (I think) Well remember when the lights went on at 6 am the walls were like those of a cave and there was water on the floor! The good old days, if my mother had know I believe I would have lost some skin, damn have got a good memory

I'd have thought Hebden would have been the most likely candidate for "Shoreditch of the North". Places like Drink?, Nightjar and, in particular, Vocation could have been lifted directly.

Interestingly, or not, the woman quoted from 6 music is also an Honorary President of Bacup Borough.
