Jay-Rod and his career at WBA

Claretspice made an interesting point about Jay-Rod on the Rondon thread and I just wondered why he's not playing that well?

Some might say his knee injury affected him, but when you look at Vokes and Barnes they've both had serious knee injuries and both have come back to be better players since their operations.

Just wondered why he no longer seems an exciting talent in the Premier league?

He's played well from what little I have seen of him.

That Liverpool FA cup game was a far better performance than any of our strikers have put in this season.

Maybe he's not as good as we thought and he was just a big fish in a small Burnley pond, and our wealth of new talent since has made him look less great in comparison.

Are you asking why he looks poor in a team rooted to the bottom of the table and they generally all look poor?

We should sign him i think 100%. Deffo a ‘Dyche’ player. From here. And hes no doubt can play. All makes sense.

Danny Ings looked reasonably good for us in the season we got relegated.

I'd suggest the manager was the key factor in that.

Pulis apparently lost the dressing room early on, whilst I suspect Pardew is also struggling with them.

Dyche has never, to anyone's knowledge, lost the dressing room.

I just got a mental image of Dyche wandering the corridors of Turf Moor, Spinal Tap style, desperately searching for the dressing room.

Remember the midweek 1-0 home defeat to Hull? ;)

Him and Chris Wood would be a brilliant pairing and Jay would be the perfect No 10. Good with his feet and superb with his head.
He would be to our attack what Jack Cork has proved to be to our midfield. He was immense against Liverpool and got dropped the next game in favour of "sicknote" Sturridge. What has that done to his confidence. I am certain SD would get the very best out of him.

Agree.

When has he been given a good run in the team since his injury? Either at Southampton or WBA?

People won't like to hear it on here but I'm not so sure he's as good as he was.

I don't think he is, either.

I can't see Jay leaving Wba in a hurry unless he has a relegation clause written in to his contract. I believe he is on big money, way out of our league.

We would more than likely get better value for money, out of one of the championship players mentioned on another thread

Jay Rodriguez is getting better and better and being watched by Southgate.

. finds it odd that so many people would be quick to have Rodriguez back. He thinks Rodriguez struggles with injuries, doesn’t have the best scoring record and of course, has this alleged racial abuse charge hanging over him. Now . isn’t suggesting Rodriguez said anything racist before anyone starts going crazy because they once met him at a charity dinner or played against him at under 11’s and he ‘wasn’t like that’ - he just thinks if it was any other player with the already mentioned injury record, high wages, allegations of a racial nature etc that they wouldn’t be in such a rush to sign the player on.

Like every club we are looking at upgrades. Surely Jay-Rod would be an upgrade on every striker we have, excepting Wood? Pilfering the best from clubs likely to be relegated looks to be a sound tactic to me, as long as the pro concerned is still motivated.

Jay-rods looked pretty good recently from what I've seen (albeit in an underperforming team). I can't really think of any strikers, in the market we are operating in, that are as good and would be a realistic target.

Dyche might not fancy him though. If that's the case....fine by me.

Is where WBA are heading

I'd be surprised if they kept both Rondon and JayRod for a bounce back attempt, will still need to lighten the wage bill.
