I'm still drunk in Torquay after his goal - now that was a proper away weekend trip , beer , beer , match , beer and football on the beach Sunday morning .

529 league appearances is a very decent career in anyone's book. He had many clubs but over 400 appearances were for just 3 - Burnley, Bury and Hereford. Most of us would have been thrilled to play once.

Far left No4 John Deary and John Francis is on his right.

Just looked up his career stats. Played for over 15 years.
Suggests he was a highly disciplined professional.
I'll have seen him play but can't remember him. Obviously the players back then were utter crap compared to what we have now but thank the Lord for players like Winston White after the shambles of 1987.
Can anyone name the player on the right of the photo?

Struggling with this one. During the era of this kit 1989 - 91 I can only remember 4 black players for us apart from Winston White - John Francis, Roger Eli and Junior Bent. It's certainly not Eli, looks too tall for it to be Bent and not stocky enough and very different in the face to Super John.

Oghani had gone by the time we had this kit. Pretty sure he went towards the end of 1988/9 season...

You deserve to be whipped, walked down Shame Lane then covered in lemon meringue pie. It`s the one and only Super Johnny Francis. I`d hazard a guess it`s at Bloomfield Road too.

I don’t think it’s Francis. Definitely not Oghani. Possibly Junior Bent. I hadn’t thought of him

When I was 12 I watched a lot of Bury home games as my dad had stopped going to Burnley and they were doing well. Plus there was a lot of ex Clarets at Gigg Lane. Winston White was a massive crowd favourite and very entertaining to watch. Like a lot of players who joined the Clarets around that time , they were passed their best.
Had to do a double take in this photo, looked too tall for Super John but it must be him.

Nay, that can't be John Francis. He never stood still long enough for a photo of him not be be blurred.
Methinks it must be J Bent.

It is John Francis this was from the Blackpool away match 90-91.

I remember Peter Mumby's goal well it was in front of the Burnley fans, and I think Deary scored the other. Anyone remember the Blackpool fan who was being filmed in front of the Burnley fans at half time probably around 97/98 time. He ended up making a gesture toward them and having a load of coins thrown at him before being escorted off by the Police.

It's SJF!!! :O
Genuinely gobsmacked that I didn't recognize him.
He certainly beefed up between that photo and how I remember him from the '94 season.

I saw him score two goals at Colchester on February 10, 1989 [my 35th birthday]. Two up after 15 minutes saw us going crazy rammed in behind the little end at Layer Road. Superb following on a Friday night. Ended up 2-2, but it could have been 6-2 to them.

Back to the original question, I'm fairly sure he had a go at running a menswear shop in the town, possibly with another ex player. I could be totally wrong but that's lurking in my memory.

Think you are right - my vague memory was that it was on St James Street bit further down from where Originals is now. Think the shop was either called Pele or Oggi - not sure though as the same men's clothes shop had a few names.

Yes, definitely in that area of town.. Wikipedia has him down as being involved in a restaurant in Padiham, but having worked in Padiham from 1990, I don't recall that at all.

I think that could have been the Manor Barn - he was always there so reckon he may have been part owner
I didn't realise I knew that much about Winnie White !!

Hmm, not too sure about that, Giovanni, if my memory serves me right, was the owner of the Manor barn, a patient of mine back in the day, not sure if he had any business associates which is why it eventually went down, he wasn't the easiest bloke to get on with on some levels.

Never had any business with The Manor Barn.
The Barn was Giovanni's until a couple of years before the end. The Brewery put in a succession of Managers after that but eventually sold the land for houses.
Wednesday was always a big night and an occasional Wednesday night artiste was Gerald Rich - who was Winston White's brother . I'm no Nick Kent but you'll have to trust me that the Top Hat lager was better .

I once found his Filofax, library tickets (remember those!?) and all in a phone box near to Brierfield Library. Handed them into the police. Never got a thank you, though!
