Anyone on here ever bought one?

Heard plenty of people buy them and unlike Spain and Cyprus, never heard of any issues. Obviously won't be without risk and hassle but the prices are lower than ever. Interested in peoples experience (good and bad).

With the price of some, would be worth the 'gamble'.

Probably would prefer something in a managed complex than a house etc.

Any issues with being British (and soon to be non eu) to consider?
Any issues with management fees or hidden extras when buying?
Any issues around leasehold?

By the way would be Borovets, Pamprovo or Bansko. And wouldnt be buy it to sell on and would potentially not even rent it out. Just use it for friends and family.

Stick to Burnley Wood lad same issues but not as far to travel.

Yes would be worthwhile thanks. I have a few friends who have bought out there and had no issues at all. But also keen to hear from others.

I was looking at Bansko for how cheap it is; think a bob or two could be made leasing out to skiiers in the winter and hikers in the summer....

Yep looked at bansko. Most of our skiing group have skiied there and enjoyed it. For how cheap it is id probably not rent it and save the hassle.

Bevare! A very close friend of mine married an extremely attractive Bulgarian girl. She fed him local cuisine. He started to bloat up somewhat. I myself was unfortunate enough to sample some chicken skin soup which resulted in me having to avoid poultry for a good two years. An extremely complicated divorce ensued. My friends brother accompanied him on a trip to settle matters and suffered a near fatal coronary whilst out there. This was exacerbated by another trip involving refuge at the airport overnight to avoid confrontation by angry members of her family.

A place to avoid at all costs.

My Auntie bought a derelict farmhouse out there 10 years ago with her partner both in their late sixties at the time, being retired they could spend a lot of time over there overseeing progress. There were a lot of sharks circling at that time but they have been left alone since and have been welcomed into the local community partly because of their age and because they live there permanently, have integrated, learnt the language, ride around on battered old mopeds etc but corruption is rife. There is a reason why property is 5-10k for a farmhouse with land. Do your research is my advice and take frequent visits at different times of year, it may look picture perfect with blue sky, limestone peaks, and pristine snow but it is a poor country and with all poor countries there is a seedy underbelly.

I've had 2 apartments in Pamporovo for 10 years. Bought as an investment though prices have gone the wrong direction. Go out with the family every year & enjoy the skiing, fresh mountain air and local restaurants. Going out with friends in September for walking, fishing, geothermal spas. Always come back refreshed.

No real issues?

No issues. People are friendly. Prices very competitive & much cheaper than France, Italy, Austria etc.A lot of EU money has been spent upgrading the roads.

Sounds good. Have been to sofia, bourgas and all round that region. But clearly buyings different to having a holiday. But thanks for the feedback.

I'm still waiting for a barking mad Jock, Dave Leslie to reply.

I will give it to my friend in Spain to pass on to this agent friend of his.

Sadly another friend who lives there and had ethnic roots succumbed to cancer and passed away a few short weeks ago.

A friend of mine went skiing in Bulgaria a few times about 10 years ago and ended up putting a deposit down on an off-plan apartment in Borovets. The apartments never got built - allegedly down to problems with utilities - and needless to say, he's still waiting for his deposit back.

My advice if you are buying is make sure the place is already built and the water is running!

Probably didn't meet building codes. I've heard that in Bulgaria, indoor plumbing, along with roofs, are optional.

I get by....in the villages you need at least a basic knowledge but in the cities it's not essential. Plus I use English at work.
