For both of our goals, MK was at fault and had a torrid day against Ash today.

I did want to see him do well when he left us but it is now clear that MK isn't the player that he was without Ben Mee.

For our first goal, Ashley Barnes got behind Michael Keane before lashing the ball in.

For the second, Chris Wood was marked by (guess who) Michael Keane. Yes, Pickford should have done better for both goals but, Ben Mee or Tarks would not have allowed those two chances.

Keane didn't have a bad game for them.
But Woody did him today!
He left us for a club in temporary disarray. He's class, and will come good again.

We've also two CBs just as good though, still playing for us.

Picture above is mk trying to retrieve the situation after Williams completely lost wood who he didn’t go goal side of. A lot of mks season has been trying to cover whichever hapless cb partner he has that game. Did well today.

first goal was a world class pass that would have been purred about if de bruyne had done and rightly so. 2nd goal he was covering for his pathetic team mates. he is wasted at everton right now and hope his confidence doesnt suffer because of his team mates short comings.

No doubts that Keane has a vulnerability in the air at set pieces, he has improved since but I still wake up with palpitations dreaming of Smalling dominating him at Old Trafford to win after we were the better side. No doubts Dyche targeted him today, He is a Rolls Royce of course, but when you target a Rolls you think of the thing it can’t do, even a Rolls has some.

I felt his fault for the first goal was to do with the Allardyce way of leaving a huge gap between CB and FB - we targeted that relentlessly.

In many ways, Dyche came of age today.

two reasons:
he gets no cover from midfield and everton are playing him on the left to accomodate ashley williams, just as we did with duff.

keane is a right sided centre half and he's half the player when he's on the left.

that said, he was one of everton's better players today, first half especially, and he can't be blamed for either goal; first one is just a fantastic ball and second one, williams leaves wood to get the run on the ball.

he's still an excellent centre half but he's playing slightly out of position in a poor team.

Yes was great for us, he could have stayed, he didn't and was sad to see him go.
If for the money or to better his career or both, now not looking good enough for England and confidence must be down if the Everton fans are on his back.

Keane somewhat at fault for first goal. Thought Pickford Was more at fault though. Though it was a good ball Barnes picked the ball up deep in their box. I would have been disappointed if pope stayed on his line in that situation. Pickford could have come and got that if he had been more aware and in a better starting position. Pope is very good at positioning himself well. Not Keanes fault for the second goal. Keane is stugging due to lack of midfield protection and poor defensive partner. Williams was a good player but his legs have gone. Overall didn't think Keane had a bad game.

Maybe you could argue he was partially responsible for both, but for the first there was abysmal positioning by Pickford and for the second Pickford and Williams made schoolboy errors in marking (Pickford got distracted by Ward and Williams pointed at Wood but then completely lost sight of him.)

Sky Pundits both thought Pickford was at fault in both and Williams with the second.

I know Big Sam blamed Williams and Keane rather than Pickford.

Depends if you listen to fans or former footballers who you blame.

But Ederson showed Pickford how to do it in a similar situation against Arsenal - you don't retreat. He was on the edge of the area seconds before Lowton's pass and decided to retreat leaving a huge space for Barnes that wouldn't have been there if he was doing what he should have done.

I thought Keane looked ok today too. Ashley Williams on the other hand looked awful. And overweight. I also breathed a big sigh of relief when they took off the young midfielder with the ladies hair style and replaced him with Rooney.

As much as I loved having MK as a Claret..... I have to say his overall performance today was I think pretty poor. His distribution was really bad, and Barnes made life very difficult for him. OK he may not have been helped with his defensive partner but I think the problem was more than that.

The confident MK that graced Turf Moor didn't turn up today.
This afternoon the 2 centre backs that would have impressed the watching Southgate, were wearing Claret shirts

I don’t know what Everton we’re trying to do for the second goal. They were all lined up on the six-yard line seemingly unconcerned that Wood was goal side. Williams was nearest, but neither he nor Keane had any chance of recovering when the ball came in.

To be fair, they have a right to expect their keeper to deal with it 3 yards out, but he was too busy wrestling with Ward.

I was actually referring to the first goal.

I have heard on good authority that Williams was marking Wood and completely lost him for the second goal (someone trustworthy watching in the pub).

You can barely see Williams in the photo and Pickford should be making a claim for it anyway.

Just thought that I'd add that evertons left back was as bad, if not worse, than Williams yesterday. there's a big difference in playing between mee and lowton on your better side than playing between worn out Williams and a consistent''ly out of position left back who gives the ball away in daft places on the pitch.
Keane didn't play well yesterday but hes on a hiding to nothing until Baines is back.

Real shame to see him like that. Everton has proven a poor move in the end. Reputations take time to build and Keane is going to have put in a year or two of good performances to get back to where he was when he left us.

Chances are he might have gone to the World Cup if he’d still been at Burnley. That dream is over for him this time around.
