3% of all goals come from a corner.

First goal from a corner this season I think, hopefully the first goal from the penalty spot is just around the corner...

I'm looking forward to West Ham now, first time in about 5 weeks I've looked forward to watching us.
Not only was it my preferred 11 that provided the victory, but i also predicted 2-1, not bad for someone who gets everything wrong.

Did anybody else notice the “hush” that went around the ground just prior to it being taken
It was like we knew something was about to happen

As I posted elsewhere. Not entirely coincidental that we scored from a corner with Stephen Ward back in the team playing his customary role.
He's very good at it.

Entirely coincidental. Absolutely totally 100% coincidental. Struggling to comprehend your statement. Really.

I think everyone mis-saw that goal. We never score from corners.

His point is that but for Ward, Pickford might have come for the cross. I think he might be right. Ward does a great job of (legitimately) blocking him off.

Ward prevented Pickford from claiming the corner

Why the misunderstanding?. It was entirely down to Ward that Pickford couldn't move. It's always been his role when we win a corner. He doesn't always succeed but it has resulted in quite a number of our goals.
From your comment it appears that you've never spotted this, and yet it's been flagged up often enough.

I understand his point, and he's wrong.
And of course, Taylor would've been incapable of doing that, right?

It's a skill that Ward has obviously perfected over the years. I doubt it's something that another player could just master overnight. It's a bit of a "dark art" and he seems to be able to do it without the referee penalising him.

Nah. To be honest I think you are wrong. Taylor could do it, but he's not as good at it.

To be honest I never really noticed, was Taylor given that role at corners when he replaced Ward or was it someone else?
Or did no one do it?

Conjecture.
Ward is an excellent player, and brilliant in this team. But to say that the goal came from Wards positioning, as opposed to any other left backs positioning, is purely a guess.
The statement was really about how much better Ward is than Taylor, and there may well be a good argument for that, but the argument presented isn't enough for me i'm afraid.

Each to their own. It's not a guess though; It's a reasoned statement based on the facts he did very well for the goal today and weve not blocked off the keeper as effectively in recent games.

How is it a guess?
This has been Ward's role at corners since he came into the team permanently in our Championship winning side. The fact that he is a left back is totally irrelevant. It could be any of the outfield players who has this role. Dyche obviously recognises that he is the best player to do this.
I can't imagine (for example) that a player like Barnes or Tarkowski would be able to do what Ward does as they would be continually be spotted and pulled up by the referee, but Ward is very subtle.

I wasn't comparing Ward to Taylor in any way whatsoever. I don't believe that Taylor was given this role.

You don't believe it, but you don't know do you?
And its relevant. If Ward doesn't play, Taylor does. So Taylor occupies the space Ward would have. Not to the inch I grant you, but the job and the role remains the same. Otherwise the framework collapses. Surely it cant be that we give someone a role, and when he isn't playing for whatever reason, even though it is part of our game plan, the role is ignored if this player is out? Can you really hear SD saying, "don't go near the keeper Charlie, old schnozzer is better at it than you, and we don't need the benefits this gives us unless Wardy gives it to us...no offence, like"
Only Ward, than man with the biggest physical size, and the largest nose in the entire world, can be so subtle as to be not noticed when trying to block a keepers advance?
Ward was immense today, and has been for his stay here, but making him into some sort of "charm" responsible for our "good fortune" today is a bit spooky.

Why do you keep comparing him to Taylor?
(Other than the fact that Taylor replaced him at left back)
Effectively "standing on the other keepers toes and tying his bootlaces to yours" is something that Ward has obviously worked on over the years. He gave a perfect example of it today and we scored. The fact that Taylor is an excellent left back doesn't mean that he would be equal to or even second best to Ward at this "dark art".
I really don't get why you have such a problem with my initial post which highlighted the important role that Ward played in our winner today, and I've made or implied no criticism of Taylor whatsoever.

No you misinterpreted. The silence was because everybody stopped getting excited about corners about 5 seasons ago...
