Just got Netflix and watched the first episode of Stranger Things last night - pretty good! Anyway, what else do you recommend? There's so much damn choice!

I'm 4 episodes into "Altered Carbon" very cool sci fi show, reeks of Blade Runner.

Was going to advise on Altered Carbon. Good sci fi show.

If you can stomach what is essentially a teenage high school drama, I recommend 13 Reasons Why - me and the missus really enjoyed that, hard watch though.

Love is a great comedy, two series of that so far. I’d recommend the Marvel shows (Daredevil, Luke Cage, Iron Fist, Daredevil, The Punisher, The Defenders and Jessica Jones) if you like the Marvel films - but even if you don’t, I would still try Jessica Jones. It’s essentially a detective show, the villain is played by David Tennant and the acting is absolutely fantastic from all. Series 2 of this actually just went up on Netflix.

Thanks for the recommendations. I'm happy to give anything a try really. Seen Daredevil and enjoyed it (though I wouldn't call myself a Marvel fan per se). Jessica Jones sounds up my street, might give that a watch!

You've also got all the Marvel tv shows

Luke Cage, Jessica Jones, Daredevil, iron Fist & now an accumulation of them all, The Defenders

A few there that look interesting, thanks. That OJ Simpson American Crime Story could be good. Just found a series called 'WWII in Colour' as well. Love the variety on offer!

One I forgot too that I loved.

Documentary show called ‘The Toys that Made Us’. If you are an 80’s kid like me you will love it, looks into (with a very comical slant) how certain toys became massive and interviews those that made them. Some of the ones done so far include the Star Wars figures, Masters of the Universe, GI Joe, Barbie etc. Very interesting, and good fun. Some absolutely bonkers anecdotes.

I enjoyed altered carbon however I think I preferred The Expanse - its a bit easier to follow and the character development is, in my opinion, better. Both good sci-fi shows though.

If you have any interest in American Football then I would very much recommend the documentary, Last Change U.

Quite a lot of the Netflix originals are decent, however whatever you do, don't watch Disjointed, it's absolute dogger.

All of the above plus...

Dirk Gently's Holistic Detective Agency - does a great job of building on Douglas Adams' source material
The Good Place - fantastic US comedy with Sci-Fi / Fantasy overtones
Inside Number 9 - if you like Black Mirror
Hannibal - the most stylish, scary, bloody and overlooked show on TV since Deadwood

Not watched yet, but I've heard good things about...

Mindhunter
Manhunt Unabomber

Netflix is producing some phenomenal stuff right now

Jessica Jones is probably the show that has surprised me the most in the last few years. And David Tennant is absolutely amazing in it. Stands up to repeat viewing just to watch his performance again.

A fellow The Good Wife fan. The Good Fight is a spinoff which is pretty good too.

If you've not tried it you might like Suits. That's on Netflix now i think.

Saw first series of The Good Fight before The Good Wife, that's how we ended up binging on it.

Funnily enough just found Suits and only watched the first two episodes so far.

I like Suits. The writing isn't anywhere near as good as in The Good Wife, but plot lines are much less obviously taken from the news headlines.

Watched both series of Stranger Things which is excellent
Also watched the new Star Trek Discovery which is also brilliant
Currently onto series 3 of House of Cards.

Going to give Altered Carbon a watch as well - looks good

Black Mirror. Just watch them one at a time and don't binge it because it will **** you up.
It's pretty much a social commentary but taken to the nth degree.

So if you're half way through a series and want a break, watch a black mirror episode - they aren't linked until Black Museum, the very last episode, but even that could be watched as stand alone.

If you want to binge something then Suits takes some beating - it' light hearted, funny, serious in bits but not at all taxing.

Good Wife and Good Fight both really good.
Bloodline was brilliant....as was Stranger Things

Enjoyed first few series of House of Cards but struggling to finish the last series because of Kevin Spacey...some scenes too close to the truth !

Been told to watch Sinners next.

Wow, thanks for all the recommendations. That's me busy for the next few months now! Have seen a few of the suggested such as Daredevil, Breaking Bad, Suits, Fargo and Better Call Saul - all excellent.

A few that have caught my eye are Altered Carbon, Black Mirror, Manhunt Unabomber and Godless.

Recommend WWII in Colour for those interested in that sort of thing.

a few [maybe] not mentioned above - the killing, archer, marco polo. just saw the film 'the revenant' on saturday, was quite good and only two or three years old. so there are some decent, newish films on there, too.

If you liked Stranger Things give 'The OA' a go, I thought it was excellent. Didn't like the first episode of Altered Carbon even though I was expecting it to be right up my street, I'll give it another go. Black Mirror is probably my favourite series ever. Godless, End of the f***ing world, The Good Place all great and watched recently. Mindhunter and Unabomber really good.

For films, Veronica was a very good horror/thriller. Documentaries, Finders Keepers has to be seen to be believed!

We got 18 months ago just to watch Breaking Bad.

Loads of comments that I agree with Black Mirror is brilliant.
Really enjoyed Stranger Things, Mindhunter, Manhunt Unabomer. Last chance U if you like American Football. Travellers, but I really like time travel stuff. The Fall and Hinterland for British police drama.
Inside No9 is obviously brilliant but then it's from the men who brought us LOG.
Next up for us is probably Altered Carbon.

One that I also liked that's not been mentioned is a German sports documentary called Trainer. It follows three German football managers.

Hi indigolake.

Mr Mercedes, very disturbing 1st episode, but, well worth getting into.

Happy, is different. ;)

Gomorah, Italian crime drama, IMHO it's the best tv series ever. Don't let the subtitles put you off watching this masterpiece.
