One of the things I remember well from away games in the early 90's, was usually within the first half hour, a section of fans being escorted
around the ground to the away end. Two examples here, away at PNE and the other Bradford City. You just couldn't imaging it nowadays.

Arggh! The plastic Deepdale pitch! Remember a report of John Beck's Cambridge running out to play in leggings, home crowd ripped in but they won!

Bradford away in the Sherpa Van or whatever it was called that year (when Pearce had the game of his life and think Futcher won it with a Pen) I think they moved the Burnley fans from the away end behind one set of nets into the home end behind the other nets because the away end was so packed. Think we already had the little Midland road stand as it was then and more fans than them in their main stand

No idea why they were moved but it caught my eye. In my mind we battered them that night but couldn't score then Pearce saved a late penalty.
Even though it wasn't a great cup comp, it was one my favourite away games.

My memory of that game is they battered and Pearce saved everything they threw at him! Think it was shortly after he’d been sent off for a punch up against Stockport!

I would have been in the one at Deepdale, think we were already 2-0 by that point.

Even the disabled were abusing us as we were escorted to the far end. It was an awful night. They put us in a small pen with PNE to our left, right and behind who took great pleasure as they banged 6 in. The tipping point was when Pearce took a free kick for offside, short pass to Deakin who wasn't looking, it went out for a PNE throw in.

I would say the other one is the SVT or FRT game when Pearce had a blinder as mentioned above. 1-0 win with rocket Ron getting the winner on a freezing cold night.

Agree on the photos and my memory also is that it was us who got battered and that Pearce was inspired. Rumour was that Bradford signed Pearce about 18 months later based on that performance though that might be an old wives tale.

Anyway was my first away game without an adult and had a great night

One thing that definitely improved things was the back pass rule. I’m sure Liverpool wouldn’t have won half their titles without passing it around the back 4 and back to the keeper.

There were loads of them in the bee hole, gaz Bradley certainly enhanced his reputation that day!!!

I was once in the Beehole and there were two sets of away fans in there - Sheffield United and Leeds United. Bizarre atmosphere. We had nothing to play for but there were quite a few three-way punch ups. The police didn't know who to escort out. It was so long ago, I can't remember the date.

Probably thinking of Sheffield United and Hull. We were playing Hull and they needed to beat us by three to go up or Sheff U went up. They won 2-0.

The Wigan one was in 99 i think, thousands turned up at the newly opened ground and the stand to the left of the Burnley fans was empty as it didn't have the required safety certificate. The police started to put the excess Clarets in the empty stand but forgetting to put any stewards in there, cue loads of lads legging through the empty stand and straight into the Wigan fans behind the other goal

Not that I condone it but I saw the greatest punch I've ever seen that match.
It was on the Beehole End. A Claret was walking around the walkway, halfway back, and a Sheff Wed fan leant over the barrier and said summat to him. He just smashed him out cold and the guy was well above him, with the height of that first step.
