Jordan Rhodes

Once a prolific Championship striker, his career seems to have faded in recent seasons. However, he's only 28.

You know what I'm about to ask...

Would you sign him?

I feel he's an option worth considering. A striker like that doesn't just lose all ability and we all know that Dyche is excellent at getting the most out of his players. A major question mark would be over his ability to score goals in the PL. However, we've seen players like Charlie Austin, Jamie Vardy and, dare I say it, Ashley Barnes make their way up the leagues and score goals.

What do you think?

No pace, can't play on his own up front and he's had injuries.

Nope

He has transferred for a lot of money over the last 10 years and his wages will reflect that and for what he would cost the club I don't think he would be worth the risk

I think motivation may be a factor in his declining career. He nevers seems to be putting in the hard yards during a game and his big money moves may have just made him too comfortable in life.

It may have been an interesting move 3 or 4 seasons ago but I think that ship has sailed.

I would agree with most of the above. He was a brilliant Championship striker (20+ goals per season at Rovers) but he never did make it in the PL really. I said to some Rovers mates at the time that I would hang fire on an opinion till he played in the PL and he just never made it. I certainly wouldn't go for him, his work rate is questionable and I think his head tends to drop when things aren't going well.

Incidentally going back to yesterdays 'Barnes for Austria' thread I only recently discovered that Rhodes, although playing for Scotland, has no Scottish ancestry and his qualification to play for them was from nothing more than being schooled there while his dad played in goal for a number of Scottish clubs. So now you qualify to play for a country if you lived there for a few years as a kid? Strange.

Mmmm - not so sure about that. I’ve been to Loch Lomand a few times and I also love Still Game and 2 doors down so a shoe in for the next squad !!

As for Rhodes - he signed a £40k a week 4 year contract for Blackburn. When they sold him Boro will have at least matched this and i’m guessing Sheff Wed will have done the same.

He’s been poor for the last 2 or 3 years now. He’s never been a striker who chased back but he definitely had an eye for goal and was a good finisher. He now seems to have lost some pace and confidence. To be on the bench for this struggling Sheff Wed side struggling in the Championship shows how far he has dropped.

Be amazed if a Premier league team took a gamble on him - I think he is destined to see out his big contract and go on loan to the lower leagues

Worse version of Vokes and Wood.

Pass.

Good God, no.

Used to be able to argue against his lack of effort, pace, strength, skill and teamwork as he seemed to be able to find the net regularly, however that no longer appears to be the case and looks nothing more than a confused idiot who has walked onto a football field in a daze whilst a game is in progress, whenever I have seen Wendy's on TV recently.

Only if he could guarantee his scoring record for us would be like that against us.

A big no from me. Good finisher, average footballer, bad athlete.

Scores goals but brings the overall team preformance down in my opinion.

excellent finisher but offers little else. dont think he would be a dyche type player personally.

surely he holds the record for coming home from Scotland training injured!

not our type of player training under our regime would kill him!

If we were a team that created a lot of opportunities, I would, because he's a cracking finisher.

But we don't, so no.

File under Assombalonga, more interested in money than playing at the highest level. We're too good for him.

Agree with some of your comments and I think if we get another striker we have to be looking for better. Oh and faster

Shabbily treated by Karanka at Boro who went out and signed a striker in Negrado who is no better than Rhodes when it comes to English football.

Didn't get a fair chance and looks like he won't get another crack at the PL unless he moves.

I wouldn't want us to sign him, we should be looking for better because he doesn't appear to be as prolific as he once was.

Oh and before any of the usual suspects whine at me about Negrado, he's toss and has only scored 5 league goals in 23 appearances in Turkey this season.
He's utter, utter toss for the money he costs in wages etc.

Negredo is, was and always will be better than Rhodes. And I rated Rhodes.

Negrado has been toss since his meh spell at City where he knocked in 9 league goals in 32 appearances.

He was a poor signing by Boro considering he'd scored about 9 league goals in 2 years upon his return to Spain.
He's now busy being toss in Turkey yet still people think he's a good striker....

At PL level he's no better than Vokes and from the looks of it Wood.

So what has Rhodes done that makes him better than a striker that has over 150 career goals at the top level, won titles domestically and internationally and was part of the best international side of generations?

I have said Negrado has been toss since his spell at CIty, or did you fail to see that part?

He's been crap since he joined City, 9 league goals there, about the same across 2 seasons back in Spain, similar again for Boro and will probably get something similar in Turkey.

He just isn't as good as people claim when they're getting all excited about him.
As for Spain, he was a squad player as proven with his 21 appearances across 4 years which were all in either friendlies or qualification games, because he's not made an appearance for Spain since 2013....can't imagine why that would be, unless maybe it's due to him not actually being that good...
He didn't actually make an appearance at Euro2012, but he got a medal for being part of the squad.

Like I've said, Rhodes didn't get a fair crack of the whip despite clearly being a more prolific goalscorer at the time.

Negrado, Rhodes, Bamford, Austin... This thread is full of players I wouldn't expect or want us to even be remotely considering.

Without reading the entire thread, and answering the OP, it is a very definite no from me.

He scores goals (or did) but he's had injuries, he's as slow as a cart horse and he doesn't work hard. If he doesn't score in a game then he makes virtually no contribution.

I can see your logic, but I'm not sure that they will be paying the sort of wages that he will still be wanting - even if (most likely when) they return to the Championship.

One of the best strikers in PL history scored 99.99% of his goals from inside the box, most around the 6yd line.
Ruud Van Nistelrooy scored once from outside the box, the rest inside
