Beehole were you official photographer or just a hobby?
Loving the pictures so far. Perhaps worth a thread of their own!
Do you have many from the first season after promotion under stan?

Definitely have his last game a few of the Ian Wright days, some of his games. I do have some shots from that open top bus tour somewhere.

Definitely worth a thread or as mentioned a page. The photos jog some great memories, even though we were sh!t on the pitch, the late 80s early 90s provided plenty of memorable moments.cricketfieldclarets wrote:Beehole were you official photographer or just a hobby?

Re: old pic of the longside
Superb pic.
What I'd love to see, if you have any, are photos of the Longside or Bee Hole End, taken from behind the stands...at the turnstiles or looking up that massive bank of concrete steps! Nostalgia.

A massive long shot, but the now mrs CalretAl and myself were stood on the top of the next fixture sign wearing or god awful bee type design tops after the Stockpot win at Wembley back in 94, and what seemed to be the whole of the town congregate on 1 point to get in to an almighty rendition of every song we had. A photo was taken and in te local press but i have never been able to find it. I dont suppose any Clarets out there remember it or even better have photographs.

Anyone go on the turf to watch the first leg v Torquay on the big screen?

I've asked before (I think on the another board) about a brilliant picture that was on the back of the Lancs Telegraph.
The headline was 'The End Of A Perfect Day' and it was Wembley Way jammed with Clarets leaving.
I had it for a good few years after but it's since disappeared.

No, I was there at Torquay. Capacity of about 800 with 6 steps, but WAY overfilled. People were falling down the back slope because there were too many on that terrace.Dazzler wrote:Anyone go on the turf to watch the first leg v Torquay on the big screen?

I did - couldn't get a ticket for Torquay. It was horrendous. The screen was in front of the cricket field stand and they sat us all in the Bob Lord. With the sun shining you could hardly see the picture.Dazzler wrote:Anyone go on the turf to watch the first leg v Torquay on the big screen?

and then we go over to Rochdale to win the last game of a wonderful season.Eight seasons later after a wobble or two
we were back in the top flight courtesy of Barry & Stan, add in another 8 or 9 seasons with some wobbles and our first and only
season in the Prem as many of us thought. Then along came Sean-Sean who? Sack the Board we have no ambition....... and the rest as they say is history, but pretty damn good recent history.
I still think I am having a long long dream and will wake up to reality, but my head says "this is reality"
From 1950 to now, what a Claret Journey for me. Maine Road 1960, TM May 9th 1987, York 1992, Wembley 1994 and 2009 and then SEAN DYCHE et al. Not a journey for those with weak hearts but the last 5 stops, 2014,15,16,17,18 have been special.
Apols for the ramble but great pics from you and memory lane Beehole-many thanks.

Re: old pic of the longside
The latter, unfortunately. The game at Torquay kicked off at midday which meant a very early start from home that day. Don't know what was more embarrassing, the performance on the pitch or Frank Casper's at the side of the pitch.Longside4evr wrote:Is that the faiteful night of the relayed first leg 2 -0

Sat on the bee hole (there wasn't that many so view unaffected) to watch the Torquay game. Got there late, missed a goal or maybe 2 and left early to play cricket. Couldn't see much on the screen due to the sun. On reflection I wish I hadn't bothered!!

Now you've got me confused. I'm sure it was the Bob Lord, but the screen was definitely at the cricket field end.Dazzler wrote:"Sat us all in the Bob Lord"

Re: old pic of the longside
Not disagreeing that the screen was at the cricket field end.
Well, if you could call it a screen. It was more like a noughts & crosses board.

Re: old pic of the longside
CT- I think the attendance for that live screening was given as about 5,000 if memory serves me right.
Only 2500 capacity for the Bob Lord stand.

I definitely sat on the Bee Hole, the "screen" was at the CFS end. Sunshine didn't help.

Re: old pic of the longside
Longside was definitely open for the first leg as I was on it. I recall the quality of the screen was only marginally poorer than the performance on the pitch.
You know that's the only play-off match the club has ever lost.
Torquay: 0-2 (A) and 1-0 (H)
Plymouth: 0-0 (H) and 3-1 (A)
Reading: 1-0 (H) and 2-0 (A)
And, of course, we don't lose play-off finals. That's PNE's speciality.

Not if you include the old test matches which were a kind of play-offs.Sausage wrote:Longside was definitely open for the first leg as I was on it. I recall the quality of the screen was only marginally poorer than the performance on the pitch.

Re: old pic of the longside
The atmosphere for the Wrexham home game was fantastic, but the performance and result were disappointing, to say the least. Shame!
Torquay home was frustrating, especially finally getting a break through right at the end when 25 minutes earlier and we could have piled some serious pressure on. I remember standing at the top between the Longside and Bee Hole and looking up and seeing the famous plane with it's banner!! Feels like it was just yesterday!

Re: old pic of the longside
I 100% remember sitting on the Bob Lord for the Torquay screen game, I remember having to look left toward the Cricket field and remember looking at the Beehole end as it was the first time I'd sat in that part of the Bob Lord. I was only 9 or so, but do recall a cheer from the crowd when the first Burnley fan appeared on the screen in the crowd.

Re: old pic of the longside
The 1991 play-offs were doubly frustrating for me. I was in my fourth year (Year 10, in new money) at St Ted's and we'd been told that the ball boys for Wembley final would be picked from our school football team if Burnley got past Torquay. I assume the other half would have been from a Blackpool school. We were even measured up for the tracksuits.
Not that I'm still gutted about missing the experience of a lifetime.
