His comedy is a but old fashioned for me but his smile and general clowning around made me laugh. My dad was a big fan and I know claret Tony will be gutted

I saw him at Oswaldtwistle a few years ago, didn't leave the stage until after midnight I was bloody knackered at work the day after. He was genuinely funny and could create hilarity out of a situation, without having to resort to effing and jeffing. R.I.P Ken

Comedian Gary Delaney tweeted
RIP Sir Ken Dodd. One of the all time greats. The funeral will be held on Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and most of Saturday.

RIP Doddy a true Legend and a comedian who kept it clean apart from his double entendres.
He once read Dickens a Xmas carol on BBC in the 60's -Doddy style-it was side splittingly funny.

One of the funniest comedians I have ever seen and always had his own style. His acts used to go on for ages, I had to leave the last time I saw him because it was going on into the early hours of the morning.
Really sorry to hear this. RIP Ken Dodd

As soon as I read it this morning I just went oh ffs out loud...

Was meant to go with my Grandma and Dad last year to watch him but we put it off for some reason. Shouldve known.

So saddened by this news. I've seen him live several times and always left the theatres in pain laughing, and at some ridiculous hour because he continued for so long. He was on stage for so long that he used to say that by the time we got out most of us would have been reported missing.

He really was from a different era, that of music hall, and was the last of the old comedians, but he remained the funniest man I've ever seen.

An absolute genius who has left people laughing for years - and still will when we watch the clips and old programmes.

By jove Ken I was tickled to have been able to see you - rest in peace.

That would have been Morris Motors, who despite the name were Jaguar dealers. Saw Doddy last year in Blackpool we had to leave "early" just before midnight because the car stack were we parked was due to close! :D

I was another who sat through one of his marathon sessions and found him hugely entertaining. I am pleased that it has been noted that he entertained for hours without recourse to foul and offensive language. Some of the foul mouthed comedians paying tribute to him could learn from him.

hit his peak in the 60's, and his material from old radio shows inevitably sounds very dated, but no doubt about his talent.
Used to love him on tv when i was a kid.
Great comedian, naturally gifted man.Very sad loss.

Doddy did weddings too. He was invited to Ricky Tomlinson's wedding and when the registrar asked if anyone knew of any just cause why they shouldn't be married, Ken shouted:" Can you please form an orderly queue."

Saw him at the ABC Blackpool when I was about 10 years old, my mum & dad used to go every year and we saw Eric & Ernie and lots of other top acts of the day. Also, Doddy opened the "New" Burnley shopping centre after the demolition of the old market hall and the old town centre, late 60s possibly. I remember my mum getting his autograph.
Comedy legend who`s style will go with him. You can bet someone got the headline. "Ken Dodds dogs dad`s dead"
RIP Sir Ken.

Interesting to hear that he was reluctant to appear at the London Palladium in 1965 as he felt his northern humour wouldn't be understood, he was eventually persuaded to do it and a nervous Ken gave it his all, needless to say he brought the house down. A one off was Doddy. A brilliant entertainer and singer. They don't make them like that anymore. Rest in peace Sir Ken.

A legend. Made a conscious effort to finally get round to seeing him live about 5 years ago, at King George's in Blackburn, before the chance passed. Can't deny he was a master of his art. We got out about 12.20am.

Caught some reruns of his mid 60s radio show on Radio 4Extra recently. More sketches than stand up, I was surprised at how well the material had stood the test of time.

Brilliantly funny ad libber. Non politicized like many if today's dreary and hackneyed supposed comedians.

Some of the "old style" entertainers get very stale but I saw KD once in the 60s (end of pier type show) and again in the 2000s. He was still hugely funny and renown for giving value for money - in terms of going on and on if people were enjoying themselves (and they invariably were).
Gave a lot of laughs/good nights out to a lot of people over decades. RIP.

Random facts: He didn't have any children and got married 2 days prior to his death.
It makes you think... they were together for 40 years and started dating when he was 50. It seems to me he had a bloody good life.

I've been waiting for years to use the joke...
'Ken Dodd died today...'
'Did he?'
'No Doddy!'

But Mrs G replied 'How old was he?'

RIP Ken; a truly brilliant comedian
